00:00Hi there, Storm Floris is now arriving into Scotland. It's going to cross northern parts of Scotland, bringing the risk of disruption and damaging wind speeds, an exceptionally deep area of low pressure for the start of August with exceptionally strong winds, an unusual system for the time of year.
00:18Now, we do get systems like this at other times of the year for northern and western Scotland, but there really haven't been many instances of wind speeds as strong as we're expecting today for Scotland in the past.
00:32And you can see from the radar earlier today, there has been a band of rain crossing the country, but it's this hook where we'll see the strongest of the winds transfer north across northern Scotland during the rest of the day.
00:45The winds peaking across western Scotland around lunchtime, then peaking later in the afternoon to the evening across northeast Scotland.
00:53Elsewhere, it's going to be very windy for the time of year, certainly across the rest of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, North Wales, a blustery day to come for many, a band of rain sinking southeastwards and obviously feeling cool with that wind and the rain.
01:07But it's the wind that is of most concern. We are expecting those wind gusts to peak, as I say, around lunchtime for northwest Scotland and then transferring east across northern parts of Scotland later in the day.
01:20And aside from the 50 to 70 mile per hour wind gusts widely across northern parts of the UK, there is this narrow swathe of 80 to 90 mile per hour wind gusts that is of most concern.
01:32And of course, coming at such a busy time of year with a lot of people travelling around the country and temporary structures in place, as well as camping, that could cause considerable disruption and the risk of damaging wind gusts because of the trees in full leaf and so on.
01:46It stays windy across the far north of Scotland overnight with further spells of rain, showery elsewhere, wind gusts continue to remain high, but not quite as high.
01:56And it's going to be a clear night in the south with lighter winds and not nearly as much disruption compared with northern parts of the UK.
02:05We start off Tuesday with further showers coming through on a northwesterly breeze, a blustery day for us all, but the strongest of the winds are pushing away into Scandinavia.
02:14They're slowly moderating through the day, although I suspect it will be a breezy day for all.
02:20And it's going to be a showery day as well for many northern and western parts of the country, mostly sunny skies towards the south.
02:27Feeling cool in the breeze, but out of the breeze, pleasant enough with temperatures reaching the low to mid-twenties.
02:34Further showers to come later Tuesday, but it does tend to calm down for a time with clearer skies and lighter winds.
02:42But it's going to be windy once again later in the week, not quite as windy as storm florists.
02:47However, another low does move through northern parts of the UK during Thursday and Friday.
02:52Stay up to date here at the Met Office and make sure you pay special attention to the weather warnings, which you can find on the Met Office website.
