00:00 Hello there, welcome to the latest evening update from us here at the Met Office.
00:03 The heaviest rain is now clearing to the southeast and behind it we'll see a mix
00:08 of clear spells and showers but we'll also see some colder air moving in
00:12 behind this weather front that's brought the heavy rain to many areas through
00:15 today. It's a westerly breeze, the air is cooler than of late so it will feel much
00:19 closer to the February average and that means that we're in for a colder night
00:24 across the UK. We do have quite a brisk westerly breeze though and that will
00:27 bring in showers from the west through tonight particularly across Wales, the
00:30 southwest and many western areas of Scotland and Northern Ireland seeing the
00:34 most persistent showers through tonight. More eastern areas should stay dry once
00:38 the last of that rain does clear over the next few hours so that means it
00:43 will be a colder start to the day on Friday, could be down as low as -3
00:48 across northeastern areas of Scotland. Elsewhere low single figures but frost
00:51 should be fairly limited because of the strength of the breeze. It'll stay breezy
00:55 through Friday as well and we'll see some quite blustery and heavy showers
00:59 pushing in from the west. These bring a risk of thunder and hail particularly
01:04 for western areas parts of Wales, northwestern Scotland as well in
01:08 particular. In the east it should stay dry through the morning despite the
01:11 chilly start so there'll be some good early sunshine however showers will
01:15 likely move into the east by the afternoon. So in any sunny spells though
01:20 we'll be feeling fairly pleasant highs of 7 or 8 in the north closer to 9
01:24 and 10 in the south that's just above average for the time of year and with
01:27 any long-lived sunny spells it'll feel fairly pleasant despite the westerly
01:31 breeze and the cooler air than of late. Through Friday evening some showers will
01:36 continue particularly across eastern areas and across the northwest of
01:39 Scotland but generally it will turn drier as the night progresses. The winds
01:43 will fall light as well and that will allow some mist and fog to develop. You
01:47 can see that here across central and southeastern parts of England but also
01:50 western areas, southwestern areas of Scotland potentially seeing some fog so
01:54 a bit of a murky start, potentially murky start to the weekend. We'll also see a
01:58 more widespread frost across more clearer areas, parts of Wales and parts
02:03 of northern England and Scotland too. So a chilly start to the weekend but a
02:07 largely dry start away from any coastal areas where we could see some light
02:13 showers continuing and Saturday should be a dry day for many. The mist and fog
02:18 might take a little while to clear those central and southeastern areas but once
02:22 it does there'll be long-lived sunny spells and the daylight hours are
02:26 getting longer and longer so it's starting to feel quite pleasant in
02:29 the sunshine despite the cooler temperatures than of late. So highs of
02:33 nine or ten once again in the south and seven or eight further north. And on
02:37 Sunday we'll see some further wet weather moving into the south. There is
02:42 some uncertainty in that so it's worth taking a closer look at our full weekend
02:45 forecast on YouTube but across northern areas it should stay largely dry through
02:49 the weekend. See you later.
