Widely bright, hot and clear conditions to start the weekend. It will be slightly cooler in many eastern areas of Scotland and England to start as low cloud affects these parts before retreating back to the coast by late morning. Temperatures feeling hot, with many likely to experience there hottest day of the year so far - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 12/07/2025. Bringing you todayβs weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.
00:00Hi there. Following a warm night for many northern parts of the UK, especially Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:06it's likely to be the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures exceeding 30 Celsius in places.
00:11But it's not hot everywhere. We do have an area of low cloud in the east, very tenuous, very patchy,
00:17and likely to retreat back to the beaches as the morning progresses.
00:21That's going to limit temperature rise in the east, and we also have this cooler wind coming from the North Sea.
00:27So it's not as hot this time in this heatwave across the southeast compared with the last heatwave.
00:33Temperatures, the highest temperatures are more shifted west, and with the high temperatures that we saw on Friday,
00:38well, that heat is now moving northwards to more effect Northern Ireland and Scotland.
00:44So let's take a look in detail at those temperatures that we're expecting for the afternoon.
00:48And for Shetland and Orkney, we do have a lot of low clouds.
00:52That's going to limit temperatures here, 17 or 18 Celsius.
00:55But for Thurso, 25 degrees, and fairly widely across Scotland, away from the east coast,
01:01we're expecting the mid to high 20s, and in many western areas, 30 or 31 Celsius.
01:08I suspect the warmer spots, Glasgow, West Coast, Murray Coast as well, where temperatures could reach 31 Celsius.
01:16Northern Ireland, 28, 29 Celsius widely, one or two 30s possible, particularly towards the north and the west.
01:23Across parts of Northern England, Northwest England, 30, 31 Celsius expected.
01:29Likewise for parts of North Wales, around the coast of West Wales, high 20s.
01:34And you can see the number of 30s there on the map through central and western parts of England.
01:39Much more limited towards the east of England, but come inland, and it's widely 30 or 31 Celsius.
01:44Cardiff, 32, and somewhere around Gloucestershire, 33, perhaps 34 Celsius.
01:50So parts of the southwest and western parts of the Midlands, East Wales, seeing the highest temperatures in the UK, in this instance, on Saturday.
02:02And wherever you are, you've got the strong sunshine, got light winds, so it is going to feel very hot outside.
02:07But the east coast, as I say, will see some patchy low cloud.
02:11That's going to push inland a little on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
02:16Meanwhile, despite the clear skies elsewhere, it's going to be an exceptionally warm night in many spots,
02:22but particularly towards the west, 18 or 19 Celsius.
02:26And northwest Scotland could see temperatures holding up at 20 or even 21 Celsius.
02:31So that gets it close to Scotland's warmest night on record.
02:38But in the east, we start Sunday with some low cloud.
02:40And in fact, this could be more persistent as we go through the morning on Sunday and into the afternoon.
02:46And there'll be some wispy cloud elsewhere, so temperature's not quite as high on Sunday.
02:50Still a hot day, still widely the mid to high 20s.
02:53But we're unlikely to widely reach the low 30s compared with Saturday.
02:58It's still going to be hot in the southeast on Monday.
