00:01Hi there and welcome to the latest update from the Met Office.
00:04The heat wave is peaking through the next 24 hours with very warm nights expected, hot days for many of us.
00:13And widespread clear skies as we go into Friday night, but temperatures staying high.
00:17We're talking about lows, overnight lows in the high teens, perhaps even 20 Celsius in one or two spots,
00:25perhaps the warmest spot in the west of Scotland.
00:28Now there will be some low cloud drifting into the east, eastern Scotland, Shetland, eastern England as well.
00:35And that will persist for the first few hours of Saturday before eventually retreating back towards the coast.
00:42So of course that's going to limit temperature rise a bit more in the east.
00:46And we do have this easterly to southeasterly airflow across the southeast.
00:50So temperatures in East Anglia and the southeast not as high as the last heat wave.
00:55The highest temperatures more shifted further north and west.
00:59And it's likely to be Scotland and Northern Ireland's hottest day of the year so far.
01:03So let's take a look at that.
01:04Not so hot for Shetland and Orkney with the low cloud lingering.
01:07Likewise for the east coast of Scotland.
01:10But widely inland through Scotland we're talking about temperatures reaching the high 20s.
01:16And in some parts of western, northwestern and northern Scotland as well as Glasgow, 30 or 31 Celsius.
01:23So the hottest day of the year so far for Scotland.
01:26And really quite exceptional temperatures for Scotland even for July.
01:31Northern Ireland likewise.
01:32Widely the high 20s.
01:34A little bit lower on that east and southeast coast.
01:37But inland, 28, 29 Celsius, perhaps 30 degrees in one or two spots.
01:42Across much of northern and western England, similar kinds of temperatures.
01:45High 20s into the low 30s.
01:47But the highest temperatures in this heat wave, peaking on Saturday, likely to be in this zone.
01:54Across the west and southwest Midlands into east Wales, the west country.
01:58Where widely 31 or 32 Celsius is likely.
02:0233, perhaps 34 degrees in one or two of the hotter spots.
02:07Notice the marked difference there for the east coast of England.
02:11Now this part of Kent saw the highest temperatures of the last heat wave.
02:15But a different wind direction, of course.
02:17In this case, limits those temperatures more.
02:20But widely sunny skies, whether you've got the high temperatures or not.
02:23We've just got that low cloud along the east coast that will tend to creep back inland somewhat.
02:30On Saturday night, it's going to be fickle and tenuous.
02:32Not going to affect everyone.
02:34One or two showers, possibly turning up into the east coast as well as the night progresses.
02:39Elsewhere across the UK, clear skies.
02:41And in some spots, temperatures even higher compared with Friday night.
02:45We could see 20 or 21 Celsius as temperatures dip across northwest Scotland.
02:51Now, the start of Sunday brings with it a fair amount of cloud in the east.
02:57Low cloud initially, again retreating to the beaches.
02:59But more extensive cloud starts to come in to the east.
03:03And some wispy higher cloud elsewhere.
03:05So that's going to limit temperatures a bit more compared with Saturday.
03:08More widely, the mid to high 20s.
03:1130 or 31 Celsius still possible though.
03:14Then into the start of Monday, the higher temperatures get shifted east.
03:1828, 29 Celsius in the southeast.
03:20But cooler air arrives in the west, along with some outbreaks of rain and showers.
03:25Particularly towards the northwest, as low pressure increasingly dominates as we go into next week.
03:31But just about anywhere could see a few spots of rain or some heavy showers.
03:35And it's going to stay fairly mixed through next week.
03:38Not as hot as we're expecting this weekend.
03:42Bye.
