00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office. Prepare
00:04for some hot conditions as a heat wave returns to the UK, extending northwards as well as
00:10westwards. Now through this morning still weather fronts bothering the far north and
00:14west of Scotland with cloud and also some light rain and drizzle but high pressure building
00:18from the south allowing for that brighter weather, that sunshine into Friday feeling
00:23warm if not hot across most parts and we'll lose the cloud across the far north and west
00:28of Scotland. The peak of the heat is likely to be on Saturday with temperatures climbing
00:33into the 30s but similar situation really on Sunday again with lots of sunshine. If you're
00:38stepping out first thing this morning watch out for more clouds and some patchy rain and
00:42drizzle particularly across Shetland as well as the Western Isles and the North West Highlands.
00:47Now for Northern Ireland it's a cloudy morning but it should brighten up and a bright start
00:51across central eastern and southern parts of Scotland and much of England and Wales. One
00:55or two shallow mist and fog patches and some low clouds just lapping along the shoreline
00:59towards Cornwall as well as Devon. Now through the morning not a lot of change across England
01:04and Wales. A little bit of cloud in the sky but generally speaking it will be bright with
01:08sunny spells. Sunshine across the Cairngorns down towards the south east of Scotland you
01:12could see a bit more cloud through the morning into the afternoon but certainly bright and brightening
01:16up across Northern Ireland as that cloud breaks and pushes northwards. For the far north and west
01:21of Scotland, North West Highlands as well as the Outer Hebrides and eventually again Shetland
01:25you'll see more clouds and some patchy light rain and drizzle. Temperatures here 17-18 degrees
01:30Celsius but 22 across the central belt of Scotland 25 for Northern Ireland in the afternoon.
01:35Similar situation across the north of England and north of Wales but anywhere from east Wales
01:39down towards the home counties 29 or 30 Celsius. So a hot day. Now through Thursday evening and
01:46overnight it will be fairly muggy in the south. A warm night and mild further north. Notice this
01:52rain here just clears towards Shetland yet again. A bit of a brisk breeze for the islands but generally
01:56speaking it's a quiet night. We could see one or two mist and fog patches and again some low clouds
02:01just along the shoreline towards the east as well as the West Irish Sea coast. That leads into a fine
02:07day on Friday. Most places seeing that blue sky and sunshine. It's going to feel warmer if not hotter
02:13than today. So temperatures responding very quickly to that sunshine. Coming in probably around 26-27
02:20across the north 29-32 further south and southeast. As I said Saturday is likely to be the hottest day
02:29of the week as temperatures rise into the 30s across much of England and Wales and we could see a peak
02:35temperature similar across the far north of Scotland. The Murray Firth could see a temperature 29 perhaps
02:42slightly higher. So all in all a very hot day. High UV and also some high pollen counts. Into Sunday
02:49the heat wave continues as temperatures arrive around 27-31 Celsius. Wherever you are stay hydrated
02:55and I'll see you again soon.
