01 July - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05We've had an incredibly hot and humid day across more southern eastern areas today,
00:10all courtesy of where our jet stream is, keeping that hot air in place across much of western and central southern parts of Europe,
00:18as well as the southeast of England.
00:20Fresher conditions towards the west, just to the northwest of this jet stream,
00:24and the jet stream has brought with it some showery bursts of rain.
00:28We could see some wet weather across eastern counties even through Wednesday with a few showers,
00:32and further showers likely in the north on Thursday as the winds pick up.
00:36We'll see some rain on Friday, more about that in a moment.
00:39Currently there's a weather front straddling the central slice of the country,
00:43and so overnight that rain would tend to ease towards the North Sea,
00:47but still quite murky across Scotland, northern England, even the Midlands and eastern counties.
00:52Cooler towards the northwest with one or two showers, but yet again a muggy night down towards the south.
00:57And here we could see temperatures holding around 17 or 18 degrees Celsius,
01:01so another uncomfortable night for sleeping.
01:04Temperatures probably a degree or so lower than last night, even so.
01:08And first thing tomorrow morning, more clouds and some showery bursts likely here.
01:12In fact, generally a lot of clouds across eastern counties with some wet weather coming and going.
01:16It could actually intensify for a time with the risk of thunder through the morning before it clears towards the east.
01:22And then brighter skies for many as we head through the day with some sunshine,
01:27but showers will develop in situ, particularly for Northern Ireland, as well as Scotland 1 or 2 for Northern England.
01:32But a fine end to the day further south.
01:34Temperatures not as high, which is good news towards the southeast, where it's been fairly oppressive.
01:3926 degrees Celsius here.
01:41Generally speaking, the high teens feeling warm in that sunshine, a bit of a breeze towards the western side of Scotland.
01:46Now, through this evening and overnight, any remnants of those showers across eastern parts of Scotland and northeast England fading away.
01:55And then we'll see a clear night, a cooler night towards the south as well as the southeast before clouds.
02:00And some showery rain arrives later on into Thursday morning across western Scotland as well as Northern Ireland.
02:06The winds will pick up here.
02:08And through the day, those showers will push ever eastwards.
02:11They could be heavy in places.
02:13Now, for England and Wales, it's a fine day with sunny spells.
02:16A bit more clouds spilling, though, across Northumberland, as well as Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lancashire.
02:23Temperatures then coming in around 23 to 26 across England and Wales.
02:2718 across the central belt of Scotland.
02:28Aberdeenshire, though, 20 Celsius.
02:30And we could see a 20 with some sunshine across Belfast.
02:34So that's the front moving towards the east on Thursday.
02:37Still a ridge of high pressure affecting more southern areas into Friday as well.
02:40The air turns warmer on Friday as we see the winds pick up across Scotland and Northern Ireland with some outbreaks of rain pushing ever eastwards into Saturday.
02:49That front straddles more southern areas through Sunday.
02:52So you could see an increasing amount of clouds and perhaps one or two showers.
02:55Outlook, though, through Friday, it heats up again towards more eastern and southeastern counties.
03:01Warm elsewhere with some sunshine across England and Wales.
03:04Rain, though, arrives across Northern Ireland and western Scotland, pushing towards the east with some stronger winds.
03:09I'll see you later.
03:10I'll see you later.
