00:00Hi there.

00:01It is a remarkably hot start to May for many, but not for all, a change is already taking

00:07place across Scotland and Northern Ireland as a cold front sinks south.

00:10This is its position early afternoon, just crossing the border between Scotland and England.

00:15And along that cold front we've got areas of cloud and some showers, even the odd thunderstorm

00:19into the afternoon.

00:21Showers also arriving into the north-west of Scotland, patchy cloud here and a much fresher

00:25feel with winds coming in from the Atlantic.

00:28But further south we keep the heat and that heat has been building day by day each day

00:32this week, with the heat enough to set off odd shower or thunderstorm through central parts.

00:38But for most it's going to stay sunny and it's going to be a degree or two warmer compared

00:44with Wednesday.

00:46So widely 26 to 28 Celsius across England and Wales, up into the Vale of York, north-west

00:52England, Cheshire for example.

00:54But in some spots the potential for 29 Celsius, a remarkably hot start to May like I say.

01:01But further north you can see that temperature contrast, mid-teens more likely across much

01:05of Scotland and Northern Ireland as the cooler air sinks south.

01:08The temperatures will be falling through the afternoon across parts of northern England

01:11as that cold front moves through.

01:13The cold front tends to fizzle away but we keep that temperature contrast overnight.

01:17And it's a warm night across southern parts of the country, chance of a few showers, even

01:21a thunderstorm rumbling through the hours of darkness for central parts.

01:25Thicker cloud arriving into the south and south-west by the end of the night as well,

01:28a few spots of rain.

01:29But also a few showers into the north-west with a north-westerly breeze.

01:34And big temperature contrasts remain overnight with lows down to the low single figures across

01:40parts of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland in sheltered spots.

01:44A grass frost possible further south, mid-teens in some places.

01:49So a warm night, an uncomfortable night for sleeping for southern parts of Wales and England.

01:54We start off Friday with that warmth across the south and south-east.

01:58Plenty of sunshine after one or two showers first thing.

02:01And it's another sunny day for many parts of England and Wales.

02:04I think a bit more cloud there for Northern Ireland and Scotland.

02:06But even here, brighter skies return for the afternoon, showers arriving into the Northern

02:11Isles.

02:12But otherwise, for most, it's a dry day.

02:14Again, plenty of sunshine.

02:16Not quite as hot in the south, but still temperatures up to 26 or 27 in some spots of

02:21the far south and south-east.

02:22Otherwise, temperatures are significantly lower across the board and mid-teens more likely

02:27across many parts of northern and western UK.

02:31But still the potential for the odd shower or thunderstorms to develop, this time southern

02:35counties of England into the afternoon.

02:39Then later Friday, the cooler air that we've got across the northern two-thirds of the UK

02:44eventually reaches the south.

02:46And for the long weekend, well, we've got a change in feel, but not necessarily a significant

02:51change in the type of weather.

02:53Effectively, high pressure is still with us.

02:56And that high pressure is going to maintain fine, settled weather for many places.

03:01But there'll be more cloud, there'll be a few showers coming into the east at times, and

03:06there'll be a significant drop in temperatures.

03:09In fact, below average temperatures are possible in the east by Sunday because of this air coming

03:13down from the North Sea.

03:16In the sunshine, towards the west and south-west, still feeling pleasant enough.

03:20But like I say, temperatures significantly lower than recent days.

03:23The dry and mostly bright weather continues into next week.

03:27High pressure rebuilds across the UK, so no sign of significant rain for some time.
