16 June- National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, we're going to see a day-by-day build in temperatures through this week and
00:05into the weekend because of an increasing spell of settled weather and high pressure
00:11dominating things.
00:12At the moment, high pressure extends into southern parts of the UK and that means we
00:16do still have some frontal systems toppling into northern areas, bringing cloud for Northern
00:21Ireland and much of Scotland, particularly the Central Belt northwards, and then we've
00:25got these outbreaks of rain through Orkney, northwest mainland Scotland and the Outer
00:29Hebrides.
00:30That's going to make it feel cool, but where we've got the sunny spells further south,
00:3425, 26 Celsius possible, so warm and certainly temperatures a few degrees above average for
00:41the time of year and those temperatures are only going to increase over the coming days.
00:45Clear spells though across much of England and Wales overnights, that's going to allow
00:48some mist and fog to develop, particularly in the south.
00:51A different story further north where the cloud tends to thicken across Scotland, Northern
00:55Island into Northern England, outbreaks of rain slipping south and winds picking up across
01:00northwest Scotland with the risk of gales in some exposed areas.
01:05Some rain, heavy at times, will move through the Central Belt first thing and then it will
01:09sink into southern Scotland, parts of northwest England as well as Northern Ireland.
01:14It's tending to fizzle out as this front moves into high pressure which will continue to
01:18dominate across the southern half of the UK.
01:21The sunny skies after that early fog disappears and another warm day with 26 or even 27 Celsius
01:27possible, cooler further north and west, mid to high teens, showers into the north and
01:32northwest of Scotland, not quite as blustery as Monday and Monday night.
01:37Then we've got this weak front just becoming trapped under an area of high pressure, so a
01:41zone of cloudy skies for much of Wales into Northern England, parts of the Midlands, tending
01:45to break up overnight as high pressure builds in and that's going to build in from the south
01:50becoming extensive across the UK, although still some outbreaks of rain possible in the
01:55far north and northwest.
01:56And then by Thursday that high pressure is starting to migrate to the east and that allows
02:02eventually into the weekend temperatures to rise from the south even further.
02:07So initially the day-by-day temperature increase through the working week is because we've got
02:11high pressure and spells of sunshine and then the possibility through the weekend of even
02:16higher temperatures arriving from the south and we're talking about temperatures into
02:21the low 30s by Saturday.
02:24So a spell of heat on the way by the weekend, temperatures rising each day, high pressure
02:30bringing long spells of sunshine and of course we've got the summer solstice on Saturday so
02:35UV levels are going to be high or very high in places, pollen will be high through the week
02:40so watch out for both of those aspects if you're spending long periods of time outdoors.
