08 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there. Following a relatively brief, cooler and more mixed spell across the UK, low pressure
00:06is now departing, high pressure is arriving once again and as a result we're going to
00:11see increased dry, sunny weather across the UK once again and day by day temperature rises.
00:18One difference later this week compared with the last couple of hot spells is that the
00:22higher temperatures will be more widespread up and down the country, not just restrict
00:26the south and the east. For the time being though, we do have some cloud across western
00:30Scotland and Northern Ireland moving in through the afternoon and some outbreaks of rain. Further
00:34south, sunny spells and feeling warm, low to mid-20s in places. Any remaining showers clearing
00:40away from the east coast however as low pressure moves away and we're going to see a clear night
00:45at first across central and eastern parts of England but further north and west, cloud thickens,
00:50that cloud coming from the Atlantic, weak frontal zones bringing patchy rain and drizzle for Northern
00:55Island, western Scotland, northwest England and under that cloud it's going to be a milder
01:00night, 14 or 15 Celsius typically, a little bit cooler towards the southeast but again a little
01:05bit milder compared to the last couple of nights. Sunny skies for the south and the east first thing
01:11Wednesday but a lot of cloud elsewhere actually, it is a mostly cloudy start to the day. The weak
01:17frontal zone in the northwest will continue to bring outbreaks of light rain and drizzle to the
01:21north and west of Scotland, some low cloud around coasts but elsewhere across the UK,
01:24it brightens up, it's mostly dry into the afternoon and it's turning warmer. Day by day,
01:29temperature rises are expected through the rest of the week, 26 to 28 Celsius in some of the
01:34hotter spots across central parts of the UK. It's even warmer across northern areas as the cloud
01:42breaks up and fronts push further north and that's because we've got higher pressure building in
01:48from the southwest. This extension of the Azores high moves into the UK and as you can see by Thursday
01:55and Friday it's becoming widespread across the country and that's going to lead to day by day
02:02temperature rises and with a slight easterly airflow setting up through Friday and the weekend,
02:08actually it's not the southeast where we'll see the highest temperatures, it's more towards the north and
02:13west certainly compared with what we'd normally expect at this time of year. The biggest anomalies
02:18compared with climate will be across the far north and west of the UK and we're talking about
02:24widely temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s. So yeah increasingly warm if not hot in many places
02:31by the end of the week and into the weekend, the high pressure bringing plenty of sunshine although
02:35there will be some misty low cloud around certain coasts. Bye-bye.
