07 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, heatwave number three is on the way for later this week, but actually we start
00:05the week with cool and showery weather in many places.
00:08We've had some longer spells of rain through Monday morning, they're now clearing, but
00:12further showers follow into the north and west of Scotland, parts of north Wales, northern
00:17and central England as well will see showers into the afternoon.
00:22In between, a lot of cloud, but some brighter spells emerging and the best of the sunshine
00:26will be through Wales and the south-west of England, feeling pleasant in the sunshine,
00:30but we've still got this cool breeze coming down from the north-northwest.
00:34Then as we head into the evening, actually, the showers will likely turn heavier for a
00:38time, especially through southern Scotland into north-east England and then those showers,
00:43even some thunderstorms associated with these, run down the North Sea coast, pushing into
00:47East Anglia and the south-east by the early hours and some of them affecting the Midlands
00:52and perhaps further west still.
00:55But they clear through by dawn, clear skies, mostly dry weather follows and a cool night,
01:00more comfortable for sleeping than many nights this month so far.
01:05We start off Tuesday with plenty of sunshine, but there will be further showers for a time,
01:10at least through the morning and early afternoon across the east of England, particularly East
01:13Anglia, and there will be thicker clouds rolling into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,
01:18this bringing some outbreaks of mostly light to moderate rain.
01:22But in between, plenty of sunny spells.
01:25In fact, for many places, we end up by the afternoon with sunny skies and feeling warmer as a result.
01:3124, even 25 Celsius in the south, high teens, low 20s elsewhere.
01:38We keep those bright skies into the evening, but I think for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:43we've got the areas of cloud moving their way eastwards, outbreaks of mostly light and patchy
01:49rain towards the west.
01:50These weather fronts will wriggle across the north of the UK mid-week, but they tend to
01:55push north as high pressure develops once again across many parts of the UK, this extending
02:02from the Azores and then becoming more centred over the UK.
02:06And this will lead to day-by-day temperature rises and certainly by the end of the week,
02:11we're looking at widely the high 20s and low 30s, not just in the southeast, I think further
02:18north and west as well, we'll see temperatures rising heading into the weekend.
02:22So, I think technically, it will be a heatwave for many parts of the UK with that strong sunshine.
02:29Again, towards the east, chances of some low cloud and cooler weather at times, but certainly
02:34for many with high pressure, it's going to be a settled end to the week.
