26 June - national forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:01Hi there.
00:02Weather fronts are crossing the UK at the time of recording and once they clear, we'll
00:06still have some showers, especially across eastern fringes of England into the afternoon.
00:11Showers clearing eastern Scotland.
00:13But brighter skies are returning to many other places, plenty of sunshine in fact across
00:19northern England into the Midlands, the west and south of England as well as Wales.
00:23I think for much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, cloudier conditions here and some
00:28showers also affecting many areas, but whilst it feels fresher, temperatures are still going
00:34to reach 26, 27 Celsius in the south-east, closest to average further north-west.
00:38We've lost the humid feel across the south that we've had over the last couple of days,
00:43but it's not too far away.
00:44It is going to return.
00:45In fact, overnight we're going to see the cloud thicken in many places.
00:49This cloud coming in from the west will produce outbreaks of rain, some drizzly and light rain
00:54passing through England and Wales, but by the end of the night, the focus of rain is across
00:57western Scotland, Northern Ireland, north-west England.
01:00With the cloud in place, of course, temperatures aren't going to fall much below 13, 14 Celsius
01:04in many places.
01:05We will start the day with some sunshine across the south as well as the Midlands, eastern
01:09England, but elsewhere it's generally cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain continuing
01:14for western Scotland, north-west England, Northern Ireland.
01:16The heaviest outbreaks of rain later in the day pushing into western Scotland, some significant
01:22rainfall totals over western hills of Scotland.
01:25But further south, a stark contrast, skies brightening and temperatures nudging up a little once again
01:30as slightly more humid air arrives.
01:33It will be a windy day and it will be increasingly windy across north-western parts of the UK, coastal
01:39gales in the far north and north-west.
01:41And those outbreaks of rain continuing for much of Scotland, again particularly for western
01:45hills and coasts.
01:46The frontal system causing this will cross many northern parts of the UK as we head into the
01:51start of the weekend, but it's going to tend to ease as it runs into high pressure, which
01:57is building from the south.
01:59And so, although it's a cloudy and in places damp start to Saturday, it turns brighter and
02:04by Sunday sunny skies return for many from the south, although this frontal system will
02:11move into north-western parts of the country during Sunday to bring outbreaks of rain and breezier
02:17weather elsewhere, it's going to turn hotter and more humid, with temperatures remarkably
02:22high in the south-east by Monday and possibly Tuesday as well.
02:27And there you go.
