00:00Hello, good morning. It's a cold start out there for many of us. Frost and in one or

00:05two spots, risk of some icy patches as the morning progresses because as we've got the

00:11cold air in place, Atlantic-driven systems are moving in, bringing the moisture, bringing

00:16milder air for Northern Ireland, parts of Wales and the South West, but also this area

00:21of rain, there's the risk of freezing rain, some icy stretches for parts of South West

00:26and West Scotland, falling as snow over the Grampians but tending to fizzle away later

00:31in the day, so the main risk period is during the morning. Meanwhile, for much of the rest

00:36of the UK, it's dry, it's bright as well, some hazy sunshine for much of England and

00:41Wales and after that cold start, pleasant enough, although with an increased breeze

00:45compared with recent days for western areas in particular. A lot of cloud for Northern

00:50Ireland remains, but drier as we end the day compared with how we start things. Any patchy

00:55rain and sleet moves away from the far north of Scotland later on in the day. Clear spells

01:00overnight, a lot of medium and high cloud remaining and we keep that breeze, so not

01:05as widely frosty, but still a chilly start to Wednesday for many. Meanwhile, Northern

01:09Ireland, West Wales and the far South West sees eventually thicker cloud and outbreaks

01:14of rain moving in. Six to eight Celsius here, but elsewhere, temperatures at or around freezing

01:21first thing Wednesday. Nevertheless, a bright start for much of Scotland, England, Wales,

01:27but we've got this area of rain moving through Northern Ireland into West Wales and the South

01:31West. It's moving slowly because it's coming up against the cold area of high pressure

01:36to the east, so it tends to turn more showery as it pushes into western Scotland, parts

01:41of the Midlands and central southern England later on. However, a subtle change in wind

01:45direction will make a big difference on Wednesday. Temperatures a little less cold in the east,

01:51but still at around six to seven degrees, but more of a southwesterly flavour in the

01:55west will lead to highs of 12 or 13 degrees, albeit with some showery rain here and there.

02:02And it's that weather that is going to spread more widely into Thursday. Weather systems

02:07move through, isobars tighten up and we've got this southwesterly wind affecting most

02:13of the UK on Thursday, leading to above average temperatures up and down the country, so a

02:19remarkable increase in temperatures over the next few days and in one or two spots,

02:23particularly towards the south west or even northern Scotland, those temperatures reaching

02:27the mid-teens.
