Hi there, it's another cold day out there for all of us and there will be further snow
00:04
in places. Northern and Western Scotland as well as parts of Northern Ireland will continue
00:10
to see sleet and snow showers arriving from the north, rain around coasts of Northern
00:15
Ireland but some centimetres building up inland from any of these snow showers. Likewise for
00:21
Northern and Western Scotland the risk of icy patches out there and further snow showers
00:26
with the build-up most notably over higher parts of Northern Scotland, a few more centimetres
00:31
over the hills. For much of the northern two-thirds of the UK though it's a dry and bright crisp
00:37
winter's day, plenty of sunshine for Northern England, Southern Scotland for example. A
00:42
build-up of cloud across Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia and that's because we've got
00:46
a system moving up from the south to bring an area of rain in from the Atlantic for southern
00:52
counties of England and South Wales. But as that mixes with the cold air there's the
00:57
chance of some sleet and snow in places. Especially for areas north of Exeter we're likely to
01:03
see some snow as the winds become more north-easterly and bring that colder air back in. But it's
01:11
one of those marginal situations where it will be a mixture of rain and sleet at lower
01:16
levels and even any falling snow at lower levels may not settle everywhere. So perhaps
01:20
a centimetre or two for lower parts of Southern England and South Wales could cause some disruption
01:26
of course given that this is a busy part of the country with a lot of traffic through
01:30
the M4 for example. But the largest snow totals are likely over higher ground, Salisbury Plain
01:36
into Dartmoor Exmoor for example, five to ten centimetres. So yes, certainly something
01:43
to watch out for if you've got travel plans during the rest of Wednesday, that mixture
01:48
of rain, sleet and snow across southern parts of the UK. It's going to feel cold wherever
01:54
you are and as that system continues during the evening temperatures will drop and surface
02:00
temperatures likely to drop as well. So again adding to that risk around the rush hour of
02:05
some snow disruption in places hence the yellow warning. It does pull away though and it turns
02:10
drier and clearer across much of the UK overnight. That leads to a widespread frost, icy patches
02:16
where we've seen precipitation and temperatures widely minus three to minus five Celsius minus
02:21
double figures where we've got snow cover across northern parts of the country. So a
02:26
very cold start to Thursday but a bright start for most. We've got further showers running
02:31
into parts of Wales, northern Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland as well. Away from these
02:35
showers, away from these clumps of cloud that are coming through on the north-northwest
02:39
wind it's going to be a bright afternoon. Plenty of crisp winter sunshine, temperatures
02:44
up to one to three Celsius in places staying below freezing I suspect over higher ground
02:50
and where we've got snow cover. So that sets the scene going into Friday. We've got widely
02:55
cold conditions, widespread frost and icy patches once again on Thursday night. But
03:00
another Atlantic system is attempting to move in at this stage and this is another rain
03:06
bearing system bringing milder air and on the leading edge of that we're likely to see
03:12
some issues with snow and ice but it will be transient and it will be patchy in many
03:20
places because behind that system we've got a rush of milder air returning for the weekend
03:25
and that's going to lift temperatures throughout Saturday and Sunday initially in the west
03:31
and then later on in the east so that it's a much milder start to next week. We'll keep
03:36
you updated on all of that and you can follow those updates on our YouTube channel. Bye
03:40
bye.
