10 June - national forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there.
00:01Parts of England and Wales got off to a cloudy and, in places, drizzly start to Tuesday.
00:07That cloud and drizzle remains in a few spots as this area of low pressure clears away and
00:12its fronts sink south.
00:14But more generally, we've got brighter skies returning to many parts of the UK, certainly
00:19a brighter day for Northern Ireland, Scotland, Northern England compared with Monday's cloud
00:24and outbreaks of rain.
00:26One or two showers for the north of Scotland, patchy cloud here and there.
00:29But the cloudier skies will always remain across South Wales and the south of England, increasingly
00:35confined to south of the M4, one or two spots of drizzle continuing in the far south and
00:41southeast.
00:42That will limit temperatures here, but there's a spot just as the cloud clears and where we've
00:47got higher humidities to the south, where we could reach 22 or 23 Celsius, fresher air
00:52further north, high teens more likely.
00:54And that fresher, cooler air generally percolates southwards as we go through Tuesday nights.
01:00So clearing skies for many.
01:01Still some mist patches in the far south and some low cloud here and there.
01:05And some cloud returning to Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, a few spots of rain into
01:08the outer Hebrides by the end of the night.
01:11Temperatures mostly in the single figures with that cooler air in place.
01:15Some spots could even see a grass frost as temperatures dip in sheltered parts into the mid or even
01:21low single figures.
01:23So a cool, if not in some places, chilly start to Wednesday, but plenty of sunshine first thing
01:29and temperatures soon rising.
01:31We'll see some patchy cloud come and go, particularly through southern and central parts of the UK
01:35and cloud clearing from the far north and northwest of Scotland, along with its outbreaks of rain.
01:40Cloudier for Northern Ireland as well.
01:42But where we've got the sunshine and where we've got increasing humidity, temperatures will reach
01:48the mid or even high 20s.
01:50We're talking about 27 as a possible high temperature through the Midlands into northwest England.
01:55But with the high humidities, there's always the chance on Wednesday night into Thursday
02:00of some thundery rain developing.
02:02I think in many places it will simply be rain, some heavy bursts, but always the chance of some
02:06thunder and lightning associated with this.
02:08And that's because of the setup that evolves through the latter half of this week.
02:14We've got low pressure sitting to the west, cooler air waiting from the Atlantic.
02:18But ahead of that, drawn northwards from Iberia, a plume of heat and humidity.
02:23All those ingredients combined, heat, humidity and low pressure, means that through Wednesday night
02:29into Thursday and more especially the second half of Friday into the early hours of Saturday,
02:35there's the threat of some very serious thunderstorms.
02:39So whilst temperatures will be rising and peaking on Friday up to 29 Celsius across the east
02:44and southeast, we could see some very lively downpours, some hail and some lightning later
02:51this week and into the first part of this weekend.
02:54Something that you'll want to keep across, of course, and we'll keep you updated as always
02:59on our YouTube channel.
03:01Bye-bye.
