00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05A quiet 24 hours coming up before things ramp up and become lively as we head through Wednesday night and into Thursday.
00:12High pressure sits across the UK currently. The air is turning increasingly warm, if not hot, through the next few days and also humid.
00:21And we could see a little bit of showery rain just clipping the far northwest on Wednesday as the winds pick up and then this feature slowly moves in.
00:29It's brewing, it's moving northwards with the risk of thunder and lightning.
00:34For the time being, we still have a legacy of cloud across the far south of England and Wales.
00:39Notice towards the northwest, here more cloud and overnight we could see a little showery rain clipping the Outer Hebrides, even the Inner Hebrides, extending towards Orkney as we head through the early hours of tomorrow morning.
00:52Generally speaking, it's a quiet night with some starry skies. Temperatures dipping down to 7 or 8 across the glens of Scotland, holding though around 10, 11, 12 across more southern counties of England and Wales as well as Northern Ireland.
01:06So tomorrow dawns bright for most with some sunshine.
01:09Again, a little showery rain just moving in across Sutherland, Caithnest towards Orkney through the day.
01:15Elsewhere, some lovely sunshine coming through.
01:19Most places will be dry through the afternoon with just a light breeze, although the wind picking up slightly along this east coast here.
01:26Temperatures then as we head through into probably mid-afternoon, coming in higher than the beginning of the week.
01:3221 for the central belt of Scotland, 18 or 19 for Northern Ireland, 25 for Wales down towards the southeast of England along this east coast, 20 or 21.
01:41However, the air becomes unstable through Wednesday evening and overnight and we will see some showery bursts moving northwards with the risk of thunder and lightning.
01:52Some gusty winds associated with it as well as we head through to Thursday morning and those winds picking up particularly across the eastern side of England as well as Scotland.
02:01So we could have a lively start to the day, some heavy downpours likely with thunder and lightning as this wet weather extends towards Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, northwest England and then western Scotland.
02:13Seeing some impacts from that heavy rain as we head through into the afternoon.
02:18Temperatures then again will be on the warm side and rather humid.
02:22So let's pick up on the bigger picture.
02:24These thunderstorms are brewing across the near continent, moving their way northwards.
02:28You can see the squeeze on the isobars across the eastern side here as the first batch of thundery rain moves northwards, easing in terms of thunder.
02:38But even so, we were likely to see some heavy downpours through Friday.
02:42Yet again, the air is primed for this thundery rain.
02:46Thunder, lightning, large hail extending northwards.
02:49So some heavy downpours likely.
02:51The winds pick up into Thursday, turning fresher from the southwest as we see this rain continuing across the north as well as the west.
02:59And showers following from the south across England and Wales.
03:03But they'll be fairly scattered.
03:04Wherever you are, enjoy the next 24 hours and stay tuned to the forecast because there's likely to be some weather warnings issued.
