Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met
00:03
Office. Now today we've seen some tricky conditions across the far north and
00:08
north-east of Scotland. Wind and rain warnings remain in force as we head
00:12
through the early part of the evening. A wind warning until 6 p.m. Inland we
00:16
could see gusts in excess of 50 miles an hour along the coast and across open
00:20
water. Severe gales associated with this low and also some persistent rain
00:25
particularly through the night across Shetland. But this depression is moving
00:30
towards Scandinavia. However it will continue to cast an influence over our
00:35
weather through Wednesday as well as Thursday and that's because the position
00:39
of this, dumbbelling with a low towards the north there, will allow for some cold
00:44
air to stream in from the Arctic. And what that means, particularly by night
00:49
you'll notice the difference if you're stepping out, it's going to turn a lot
00:52
colder even with a local air frost across the north and some wintriness
00:57
over the highest ground of Scotland. Showers in the mix into Thursday but
01:02
notice a slight change coming in from the west. The winds gradually lose their
01:06
sting and with that we'll see a change of weather into the weekend. Now for the
01:11
time being notice how strong the winds are towards the north-east of Scotland.
01:14
That's where the worst weather is. However the rain across the Midlands,
01:18
southern parts of Wales, will clear around mid-evening. That wet weather
01:22
clears the Home Counties as well as the far south-east through the early hours
01:26
of tomorrow morning. And then some clearer skies but this wind here will
01:31
continue to deliver showers across the north and west of Scotland, Northern
01:35
Ireland, running in across the North Channel towards Irish seacoast, Cumbria,
01:38
Lancashire, down towards Greater Manchester, Merseyside and even Cheshire.
01:43
To the south of that some clearer skies to start the day, some sunshine as you're
01:48
waking up on Wednesday morning. Eastern parts of Scotland not doing too bad,
01:51
eastern parts of England also seeing some brighter weather. However showers
01:56
from the word go across the north as well as the west. Still that persistent
02:00
wet and windy weather across Shetland and that driving wind continues across
02:05
many parts of the north as well as the west through the day. Now sunshine in
02:09
shelter but these showers will be frequent, again running in across the
02:13
North Channel towards more northwestern areas of Wales as well as England and
02:17
extending further south they could develop in situ through the afternoon
02:21
across central and eastern areas of England. So wherever you are you could
02:24
catch a shower, some dry weather across the far south of England and some
02:28
brighter skies coming and going in shelter from that northwest wind which
02:32
will keep things cold. So a chilly day wherever you are, fresh in the south,
02:37
chilly and cold in the north with that blast of wind coming in 11 or 12 degrees
02:43
Celsius, well below average for this time of year. Now through Wednesday evening
02:47
and overnight we continue to see a feed of those showers across more northern
02:52
and western areas. Inland they will tend to fade away and again with some clearer
02:57
skies and a lighter breeze across the Midlands up towards Pennine districts.
03:00
Exposed to that wind, frequent showers into the early hours of Thursday morning.
03:05
However temperatures will be even lower as we head into Thursday and again
03:10
there's a chance of one or two spots of frost as we head into the first part of
03:15
the day. At least though you'll see some sunshine through the day as those
03:18
showers continue, particularly across coastal districts as well as the
03:22
Northern Isles. So in land some sunny skies, temperatures down a notch, 13 to
03:26
15 Celsius, only 9 or 10 across the northwest of Scotland, 12 degrees
03:31
Celsius across Northern Ireland. Now the winds will ease into Friday after a
03:36
chilly start, most places will be dry with some sunny spells. Temperatures then
03:41
at the very best the mid-teens but all change into the weekend as more cloud
03:45
and rain moves in from the northwest. Temperatures on the up as well so we
03:49
could see a 17 or 18 degrees Celsius. Take care and I'll see you again soon.
