Hello there and welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04
Two types of weather today, windy in the north, murky in the south with fog patches.
00:08
Winds will continue to pick up as we head through into Wednesday morning
00:12
and these weather fronts skirting the far north west. At the same time, quieter
00:16
conditions across more southern and eastern areas, that fog will be slow to clear. However
00:20
the winds will pick up here into Thursday morning so no problems with fog but certainly
00:24
a bit of a gusty wind extending northwards and these weather fronts here eventually
00:28
make inroads towards more eastern and central parts of the country through the weekend.
00:32
For the time being, you can see where the low cloud is and also
00:36
some patchy rain and drizzle particularly over the higher ground. If you're travelling
00:40
over higher routes this morning, poor visibility as well and that low cloud extends
00:44
down towards Northern Ireland, Cumbria as well as Northumberland. Now to the
00:48
south of that, some broken cloud allowing for the sun to come through once it rises
00:52
but notice towards more southern and eastern areas, that's where we are seeing
00:56
widespread and dense fog in places. Even fog patches further west across
01:00
mid to southern parts of Wales and the west country and still one or two drizzly
01:04
showers lurking out there along Channel Coast. So all in all, a lot
01:08
of weather to contend with this morning but the conditions are fairly benign
01:12
and what that means, the fog will be slow to clear in the south by around mid
01:16
to late morning, you should see some brighter skies and this rain will never really amount
01:20
to very much across western and northern areas of Scotland but certainly a keen
01:24
wind here, strong towards the north-west but inland
01:28
we'll see some brighter weather, some sunshine coming through, a mix of cloud and sun
01:32
as we head through the afternoon and some lovely conditions coming through for the central
01:36
belt and Aberdeenshire for a time as we see the cloud break up at times
01:40
also for Northern Ireland but always damp towards the north-west where the strongest
01:44
winds will be. 15 degrees Celsius here, 17 down towards the south-east.
01:48
Now through this evening and overnight, a couple of things happen. Certainly
01:52
there will be more of a breeze so any early fog and mist will tend to lift
01:56
into low cloud and this bank of cloud and rain tries
02:00
to make inroads towards Northern Ireland and western Scotland. The winds will be stronger
02:04
into Thursday morning and temperatures on the mild side across the north
02:08
and the west of the country, down to around 7 to 8 degrees Celsius
02:12
across the Midlands towards East Anglia but you'll wake up to some sunshine on Thursday
02:16
sunshine also for parts of Wales in Shelter, Northern England
02:20
and even the north of Scotland from time to time and also for Shetland
02:24
and Auckland you should see some brighter weather. At the same time, this cloud and rain will bring
02:28
eventually some wet weather to Northern Ireland and western Scotland here
02:32
temperatures 14 degrees Celsius. Now low pressure in charge on Friday
02:36
so that means it will be showery and temperatures down a notch
02:40
as well, 12 to 14, 15 degrees Celsius and this low
02:44
pressure, the distribution of the showers, slightly uncertain at the moment
02:48
they could change a little bit but certainly many areas seeing a little bit of wet weather
02:52
the winds will pick up from time to time as well and into the weekend
02:56
it remains fairly unsettled. I'll see you later.
