Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met
00:04
Office. It's bitterly cold through the next few days with some widespread and
00:08
hard frosts, also the risk of snow showers and ice. Warnings are in force
00:13
this evening and overnight. Northern Ireland, northern parts of Scotland,
00:16
southeast Scotland, the east coast of England as well as Wales. Further
00:20
accumulations are likely with the risk of ice and wherever you are it's very
00:24
cold as we start the day on Wednesday. Further snow showers likely through
00:28
into Thursday as this system here just grazes the far south and southwest of
00:32
England. We could see some snow on its northern edge as the rain clears down
00:37
towards the southeast. Now Thursday into Friday always the chance of some
00:41
wintry showers but inland yet again we'll see some sunshine after very cold
00:46
air by night and a widespread frost. And then all change as we head into the
00:51
weekend, the weather turns very lively. For the time being if you are stepping
00:54
out or driving this evening, watch out for these frequent snow showers.
00:58
Further accumulations as I said and also the risk of ice. They're running
01:01
down the east coast, a relentless wind here. Inland temperatures falling well
01:06
below freezing very early on through the evening. Snow showers just clipping the
01:10
far north of Northern Ireland as well and a mix of clouds and a little showery
01:15
rain and sleet towards the far south which will clear. And then much of the
01:20
country will see starry skies overnight. The air is crystal clear and temperatures
01:25
will fall very quickly. However watch out for the snow and ice across central
01:30
and northern areas of Scotland. And down this east coast here you can see a mix of
01:34
rain, sleet, snow and hail just clipping the eastern side. Showers will penetrate
01:39
quite far inland for Northern Ireland moving in across Scotland as well as
01:43
Wales. And for Scotland yes that's where we'll see the highest accumulations into
01:48
the early hours of Wednesday morning. As temperatures dip down to minus 11 minus
01:53
10 degrees Celsius across the far north in Shelter for the central about minus
01:57
6 degrees Celsius. Further south across England and Wales in the countryside yes
02:01
well below freezing for this time of year. It is very cold indeed. So that
02:06
leads into a bright start tomorrow morning for many areas but bitter
02:10
outside. Wrap up warm and watch out for ice. Now through the day these snow
02:15
showers will continue. Again it's where you're exposed to the wind particularly
02:20
along the coast but they will move inland as well. This feature moves down
02:24
across Lincolnshire as well as East Anglia through the latter part of
02:28
tomorrow. So expect some rain, sleet and snow as we head through into the
02:32
afternoon there. And snow showers continuing across Northern Ireland
02:35
running down towards the Irish Sea and Wales. Temperatures then will sub
02:40
zero where you see that snow across Scotland. Highest temperatures possibly
02:45
around four or five degrees Celsius but feeling cold in the wind towards more
02:48
northern and eastern areas. Now through Wednesday evening and overnight subtle
02:52
changes in our weather. The winds will be a bit lighter inland so temperatures
02:56
could be a bit lower particularly where you've seen snow. Snow showers continue
03:00
across this northwestern side down towards Northern Ireland and then later
03:03
on thickening cloud brings outbreaks of rain clipping the far southwest of
03:07
Wales possibly. Some snow over the moors possible as well as the rain gradually
03:12
slides down towards the southeast as we head through the latter part of the day.
03:16
Here's Friday for you. A ridge of high pressure, a cold start today. Bitter
03:21
again in the north with the risk of ice as well as snow. And then this system
03:26
winds up for the weekend. Gales, snow on its northern edge and then outbreaks of
03:32
rain track across the country. So wherever you are take note that the
03:35
weather is changing yet again into the weekend. Before that though stay safe,
03:39
stay warm and stay up to date with all the warnings. See you later.
