00:00Hi there, very good morning to you. It is the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness

00:05and we are likely to see plenty of mist this morning with fog and dense fog at that, widely

00:12across parts of central and southern UK. So, watch out if you're travelling first thing,

00:17could be tricky on the roads with the poor visibility. Nevertheless, the mist and fog

00:23tends to lift, however it might not be until about 9 or 10am that it's lifting into low

00:28cloud and then dispersing. By early afternoon, actually, it's a decent spell of weather across

00:34the Midlands, eastern and southeastern England, plenty of sunny spells and a light to gentle

00:39breeze. A complete contrast to Scotland, Northern Ireland, Western England and Wales. Thickening

00:45cloud, outbreaks of rain moving in and that rain heavy at times for western Scotland and

00:50parts of Northern Ireland accompanied by a strengthening wind. The strongest wind gusts

00:54are likely in the west and north-west of Scotland, 50-60mph and that could cause disruption

01:02with it coinciding with high tides. There are particular concerns about coastal impacts.

01:08The heavy rain and the strong winds of course in the north-west and then later western parts

01:12of the UK make it feel unpleasant. 15 or 16 Celsius in the west, much more pleasant towards

01:18the south-east, 16 or 17 Celsius, but the rain is on its way. It's moving west to east

01:25so that by the evening we'll see more persistent wet weather arriving into western England,

01:31parts of Wales, eastern and southern Scotland. Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, clear

01:36spells returning, albeit with a few showers. And then by the end of Friday night into the

01:41start of Saturday, it's wet across much of England and Wales, eastern Scotland whilst

01:45it's clearer towards the north-west. A mild night then with the wind and rain across the

01:51UK, 11-13 Celsius generally. There will be some particularly heavy rain through the Midlands

01:57and central southern England first thing Saturday, that tending to move east through the morning

02:03but it is slow moving and so eastern England a damp day. Much brighter skies follow from

02:08the west, albeit with a few showers for Wales, south-west England, parts of Scotland and

02:12Northern Ireland feeling a little fresher. However, the clearer weather doesn't last.

02:18This feature, relatively innocuous as we start Saturday, is being carried across by the jet

02:24stream and then as it moves on to the cold side of the jet stream, rapidly deepens and

02:30it approaches the UK as this well-developed and deep area of low pressure that could cause

02:35serious impacts by the start of Sunday. We'll keep you updated on all of that. You can follow
