Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04
We have a rain warning this evening from 10pm extending across the southern counties of
00:09
England. Expect some heavy pulses as it moves in from the West Country. Notice the winds
00:14
are picking up across the West Country through this evening as the rain extends from Cornwall
00:19
and Devon towards Dorset and Somerset. Now we do have that rain warning across southern
00:24
parts of Devon as well as Dorset extending across southern counties. You'll see some
00:27
showers to follow towards the West Country as the rain spills across the Midlands as
00:32
well as Wales pushing up towards East Anglia. But notice these bright echoes here and also
00:36
some stronger winds as we head into the early hours of tomorrow morning. This is where we
00:41
could see up to around 40mm of rain pushing up towards Kent as well as the home counties
00:46
and Essex. Ahead of it the rain will be a bit lighter but persistent across eastern
00:50
counties of England as it clears across the western side of Wales as well as the West
00:56
Country into tomorrow morning. Now let's back track across the rest of the country
01:01
through Tuesday evening. You can see clearer skies across many areas. Still those showers
01:05
though running down this east coast and certainly here there will be a bit of a breeze coming
01:10
down as well. However inland expect some clearer skies and temperatures will fall very quickly.
01:16
So a fairly widespread frost for places such as Northern Ireland, central and northern
01:20
areas of Scotland. There will be more clouds across southern Scotland and northern England
01:24
but where you see those clearer skies temperatures will fall so a local frost. And also some
01:29
mist and fog patches which will turn into freezing fog as we head into tomorrow morning.
01:33
And they could be slow to clear but stubborn in places. Now towards the south it's a cold
01:37
start with a bit of a cloud and also some outbreaks of rain across the Midlands eastwards
01:42
and those winds are strong just circulating round that rain which eventually will clear
01:46
towards the North Sea. But through the morning you may run into some heavier pulses as it
01:51
extends across the home counties towards East Anglia. Brighter skies emerge across
01:55
West Wales and in the showers just running down the Irish Sea again clipping coastal
01:59
districts but a drier day across much of Scotland. Just a few showers towards the north as well
02:03
as the east as that rain continues into the afternoon across eastern counties before clearing.
02:09
But the winds will pick up here as well so a windy afternoon to come. A cold wind at
02:13
that it will eventually turn drier but a legacy of clouds across southern counties. Elsewhere
02:18
once those freezing fog patches clear you'll see some sunshine but temperatures struggling
02:22
4, 5, 6 degrees celsius possibly up to around 10 towards the far south. Now through Wednesday
02:29
evening and overnight with this wind coming in from the north it will deliver some showers
02:33
along this east coast. Elsewhere clearer skies and a widespread frost through Wednesday night
02:38
into Thursday. That frost extending right the way down the country. So in the towns
02:43
and cities minus 2 degrees celsius. Lower than that across more rural spots and yet
02:48
again we'll see some freezing fog which will be slow to clear and be fairly widespread
02:52
in places as we head through Thursday morning. It will lift into low clouds and we'll hang
02:57
on to some sunshine through the day across eastern counties whereas further west the
03:00
cloud will thicken and you'll see eventually some rain arrive across Northern Ireland as
03:05
well as western parts of Wales and the west country turning a bit showery here. Temperatures
03:09
though struggling yet again. As you outlook through Friday and into Saturday this batch
03:14
of showery rain tends to fizzle out as it eases eastwards. It's a breezy day if not
03:19
windy on Friday. Into Saturday similar situation but look at this we've got the oranges returning
03:24
that means milder air across many areas but it remains breezy with further showery bursts
03:30
just moving in from the southwest as we head through Saturday and into Sunday and the winds
03:35
will pick up further as well. So that's the weather for the week ahead. Certainly for
03:39
the next 24 hours watch out for the rain towards the south, watch out for the frost towards
03:44
the north and then we resume something a bit more near normal but breezy with some showery
03:48
rain but also temperatures will recover which is good news. I'll see you later.
