00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Christmas Eve weather update from the Met Office.

00:04Now, through the next 24 hours, it's cloudy and mild.

00:08Let's take a look at the bigger picture.

00:10Our air mass is tropical maritime coming in from the southwest,

00:13high pressure always influencing England and Wales,

00:16whereas towards the far northwest of the country, yes,

00:18weather front skirting these parts with quite a blustery breeze into Christmas Day.

00:24The air remains mild and fairly calm across more central and southern areas into Boxing Day.

00:28This weather front tries to push southwards and in its wake,

00:31we will see some colder air just towards the far northwest of Scotland with a few showers

00:36and any rain tends to weaken as we head through Boxing Day as well as the 27th.

00:41So through Christmas Eve, yet again, it's mild.

00:44We've had an exceptionally mild day.

00:46Still damp in places across the northwest Highlands, the tops of the Pennines.

00:50Elsewhere, it's mostly dry.

00:52We will see some breaks in the cloud and where you do see some starry skies,

00:56there's a chance of some mist and fog patches,

00:58particularly where the winds remain light across England and Wales.

01:01At the same time, cloud and wind as well as some rain arrives across the outer Hebrides,

01:07pushing in across Shetland, Orkney and the far northwest of mainland Scotland

01:11as we head into the 25th of December, Christmas Day.

01:14And it starts on a fairly cloudy note, murky for some, but also rather mild.

01:20So through Christmas Day morning, many areas will get away with some dry weather,

01:25which is great news.

01:26The air temperature, again, remaining on the mild side.

01:29And there could be some breaks in the cloud, mid Wales, the Severn Estuary towards the Midlands,

01:34the northeast of Scotland, possibly northeastern areas of England down towards Lincolnshire.

01:40But generally, there will be a fair amount of cloud throughout the day.

01:44Northern Ireland seeing that cloud and that rain will slowly move in

01:49as we head through the latter part of Christmas Day across the northwest of Scotland

01:52and the winds will pick up some strength here.

01:54Now, temperatures will be a notch down on Christmas Eve, even so.

01:59So well above average for this time of year, coming in around 11 or 12 degrees Celsius.

02:05So Christmas Day night will again be relatively mild.

02:09However, notice this weather front here with those stronger winds

02:13tries to push towards central parts of Scotland, Aberdeenshire down towards the Highlands

02:19and then Northern Ireland, the far north.

02:21We'll see some showers as we start Boxing Day across the far northwest.

02:24It's gotten a bit cooler here.

02:26Further south, yes, some dampness across Irish Seacoast down towards the West Country

02:30where the cloud is thick enough.

02:31And that cloud will again be the theme of the weather through Boxing Day.

02:34But there will be some favoured spots for some brighter weather.

02:37Certainly some brighter skies coming in across the far northwest of Scotland.

02:41And here are your temperatures, eight or nine degrees Celsius behind this weather front

02:46under this cloud where we will see some patchy rain through the day around 10 or 11 degrees Celsius

02:52and similar further south as well, 9, 10, 11 degrees Celsius

02:56and mostly dry across more central and eastern areas.

02:59So through Boxing Day evening, not a lot of change.

03:03And as I said, yes, the air is a little bit colder towards the far north.

03:07You can see these blues trying to push in.

03:09Winds remain fairly light across more southern areas,

03:12but high pressure extends from central Europe and another cell of high pressure across the central part of the Atlantic,

03:18which again extends across as we head through Friday as well as Saturday.

03:22The air is a bit colder through the first part of the weekend,

03:24but notice waiting in the wings, some milder conditions yet again.
