Hello and a very good morning to you on this cold Thursday morning with a
00:04
biting wind and a lot of showers. First thing then, these showers forming a
00:10
longer spell of rain with snow at elevation across northern Scotland, that
00:15
wind very strong across Shetland as well as opening down towards Caithness.
00:18
Notice though fewer showers and some drier skies, clearer skies at that, down
00:23
towards the southeast of Scotland, northeast England. At the same time along
00:26
the western side of Scotland, Northern Ireland's also seeing frequent showers
00:30
which will push down towards the North Channel, Irish Sea coast, the Isle of Man
00:34
moving in across the Cheshire Gap, Wales, the Midlands and West Country. Now
00:39
towards the east, the legacy of last night's wet and windy weather will
00:43
eventually clear these parts through the next few hours and we'll see the clouds
00:47
eventually break. So through the morning some sunshine will occur but these
00:52
showers will be frequent particularly across windward facing coast and that
00:56
wind will be strong so driving the showers all the way down towards the
01:00
southwest, clipping the far north and northeast but inland we'll see fine
01:04
weather. The clouds will break, some sunshine coming through but temperatures
01:08
will be on the cold side and remember these showers will be wintry over the
01:13
higher ground. So let's take a look at the temperatures for the afternoon
01:17
coming in around four or five degrees Celsius across Scotland, maybe a six for
01:22
Northern Ireland as well as Wales, eight across central southern England and that
01:26
wind will continue to be a feature of the weather through the afternoon. It
01:29
will ease somewhat through Thursday evening as a ridge gradually moves in
01:35
but hot on its heels another system. So frost will form quite quickly across
01:39
northern England, eastern parts of Scotland through the first few hours
01:43
this evening before we see that cloud thicken. Rain then across western
01:47
Scotland again pushing up towards Orkney and then Shetland extending
01:51
towards Northern Ireland into the early hours of Friday morning and there's a
01:55
strong wind associated with it as well. Now ahead of it we'll see the clouds
02:00
spill in through the first part of Friday. It will be dry here but notice
02:05
some showers just developing across the West Country as well as Wales. At the
02:09
same time ahead of this main rain band where we could see some heavier pulses
02:13
by around eight or nine o'clock there will be some rain across northern England.
02:17
There's a back edge to this rain and that means showers across the far
02:21
northwest of Scotland. So as we move the rain forward you can see it's sliding
02:26
down the country and again some intense bursts can't be ruled out around
02:29
lunchtime Wales, northern England. At the same time we'll see some blustery
02:33
showers just move in on a northwesterly wind later. We won't see the rain towards
02:38
the far south and southeast until probably late afternoon into evening
02:43
time. Now on Saturday the Met Office has issued warnings for wind across northern
02:48
and western parts of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. Gusts across the far
02:52
north of Scotland could reach in excess of 70 maybe 80 miles an hour so some
02:57
lively weather out there. It would be windy everywhere as another bank of
03:00
cloud and rain moves in with showery bursts to follow. Temperatures though
03:04
will recover a little bit so 10 to 12 degrees Celsius certainly warmer than
03:08
today. Now if you want details of your 10-day trend this week it's with Alex
03:13
Burkehill, check it out on YouTube.
