Hello there, welcome to your evening forecast from the Met Office. Now through
00:05
Wednesday evening and overnight we see wet and windy weather across central and
00:08
southern parts of the country. With that you can see some heavier pulses just
00:13
extending eastwards before the air turns a lot colder from the north and that
00:17
means Thursday will be a cold day with a significant wind chill and quite a lot of
00:21
showers towards the north as well as the west. A slight ridge before all change
00:25
this band of clouds and rain moves in and yet again the winds will pick up
00:29
some strength and waiting in the wings it's another area of low pressure which
00:33
is developing and will track towards the UK as we head into Saturday. More about
00:38
that in a moment. For the time being though let's pick up on this rain
00:41
covering around evening time Wales, the Midlands, down towards central southern
00:46
England and some heavier pulses also towards the West Country with a driving
00:50
wind. All of this rain is moving eastwards and it will nudge northwards
00:54
towards Lancashire as well as southern parts of Northumberland before receding
00:59
from the north as we head through Wednesday evening and overnight into
01:03
Thursday. At the same time the air is much colder now across Scotland as well
01:07
as Northern Ireland. We're seeing a rash of showers, strong winds perhaps even
01:11
touching Galeforce for a time across Shetland and these showers above around
01:15
three or four hundred meters will turn to snow. Notice by around one, two o'clock
01:20
in the morning this rains cleared much of northern England. Showers moving in
01:24
across Wales and the West Country but still a wet end to the night with those
01:27
strong winds down the eastern side across eastern counties of England.
01:32
Temperatures then falling quite quickly we could even see some frost across
01:36
Scotland under some clearer skies in Shelter. So first thing on Thursday
01:41
morning. Thursday looks like it will be a brighter day for many but showers will
01:46
merge to form a longer spell of rain across the north and the east of
01:49
Scotland again wintry over the higher ground. Showers run down the North
01:53
Channel, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, North West England, the Cheshire Gap as
01:56
well as Wales and the West Country. But notice some dry skies coming through the
02:01
central belt down towards northern England as well as the Midlands through
02:04
the afternoon. There will be a significant wind chill particularly if
02:07
you're exposed to that north to northwesterly wind and showers tending
02:12
to become more confined to the coastline later on as that slight ridge comes in
02:16
ahead of the next system. Temperatures though wherever you are will struggle.
02:19
It's going to be a cold day despite the sunshine four or five in the north, seven
02:24
or eight across more southern areas. Now through Thursday evening a frost first
02:29
thing but then temperatures attempt to recover as this warm front moves in
02:34
across Scotland bringing with it some outbreaks of rain but still some snow
02:38
over the higher ground. Cloud spills ahead of it but we could see some rural
02:41
frost further south and east into the early hours of Friday morning. Then it's
02:44
wet and windy as we start the day on Friday across Scotland as well as
02:49
Northern Ireland. This is a rain band which pushed southward. We could see some
02:52
residual rain ahead of it actually as it moves down towards northern England,
02:56
Wales and the Midlands through the afternoon. Showers then will follow and
02:59
again a blustery breeze. Cloud thickens ahead of it but through the afternoon
03:03
eventually you will see some rain across the Midlands and then southeast. Now
03:08
here's your outlook through Saturday. There are wind warnings for the far north of
03:12
Northern Ireland. Western parts of Scotland up towards the far north of
03:15
Scotland. Check out our weather app or the website just to keep up to
03:20
date with those warnings but certainly we'll see gales if not severe gales and
03:23
gusts could reach 60-70 miles an hour in exposure. Showery bursts of rain continue
03:28
on Sunday as well and again that wind will be a feature of the weather right
03:32
the way through the weekend. For more details of the outlook please check out
03:36
our 10-day trend on YouTube.
