00:00
Hello again. Hot and sunny for the vast majority of the next few days with temperatures rising
00:05
day by day, both by day but also by night and this is the reason why. High pressure
00:11
is firmly in control of the UK's weather at the moment. Light winds, plenty of sunshine,
00:16
temperatures rising each day. However, not everyone will be affected by the heat or the
00:20
sunshine. The far north and north west of Scotland once again seeing areas of cloud
00:25
and an increased breeze during the rest of Wednesday with some rain turning up in the
00:29
far north west later. Otherwise it's blue skies across the board and with those light
00:34
winds temperatures higher compared with the last few days. We're looking at fairly widely
00:39
high 20s, low 30s and temperatures reaching 31C in Cardiff and London. Into the evening
00:47
then and it stays warm, more sunshine to come for many although it will turn wetter for
00:52
a time across the Northern Isles, the Outer Hebrides as well and perhaps into the far
00:57
north west of the mainland. But elsewhere, clear spells apart from the east of England
01:02
where there will be some low cloud, mist and fog turning up by the end of the night. It's
01:07
going to be a warm night, temperatures in the high teens fairly widely, 15-17C so uncomfortable
01:14
for sleeping for many. Then a warm and sunny start for the vast majority, some patchy low
01:20
cloud for Northern Ireland and that low cloud and mist in the east of England clearing away,
01:25
perhaps lingering around some beaches. More especially though for the north and north
01:29
west of Scotland, low cloud here and outbreaks of rain that are edging into the mainland
01:35
for a time, mostly affecting Caithness. But sunny skies elsewhere and as I mentioned temperatures
01:41
are rising day by day. So these are the kinds of temperatures we can expect on Thursday
01:45
afternoon. It's not just southern areas that will be hot, 29C there for Aberdeen, 27C for
01:51
Belfast, perhaps hotter in some other parts of Northern Ireland. And widely across England
01:56
and Wales, low 30s, 33C the expected high on Thursday and we turn up a notch once again
02:04
on Friday with temperatures expected to reach the low to mid 30s fairly widely, 35C a possibility
02:11
somewhere around the Midlands, perhaps around Bristol area. And southern Scotland 26C, but
02:17
I think the north east perhaps a little cooler, could be some low cloud or mist affecting
02:23
these areas. Then into Saturday another day with widely low 30s across much of England
02:29
and Wales and 35 possibly even 36C in one or two spots across central parts of England.
02:38
Again a bit cooler there for the east of Scotland, north east England as well. So some relief
02:43
from the heat if you don't like that sort of thing for the north and north east. But
02:47
fairly widely, temperatures well above average elsewhere. And whilst many people, especially
02:53
if you're on holidays at the moment, can enjoy this kind of heat safely, it's worth bearing
02:57
in mind that UV levels are very high, it's easy to get dehydrated in this kind of heat
03:02
and the hot air isn't for everyone. It's important to look out for vulnerable people and that's
03:07
why we've got this extreme heat warning. The temperatures this week and into the weekend
03:12
won't be nearly as high as we saw in July when the temperature reached 40C, but this
03:18
hot spell is going to be longer lasting both by day and by night. So worth paying attention
03:24
to health advice, especially if you know of people who are vulnerable to these kinds of
03:30
temperatures and we'll keep you updated on social media.
