Hello, and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. Rain in places on Tuesday, mainly
00:06
in the north and then for all it's going to be fairly cloudy, windy and mild because we've
00:13
got this south-westerly airflow across the UK for the next few days. Having said that,
00:19
the showers on Monday easing overnight, becoming restricted to western shores. Clear spells
00:25
then for central and eastern parts of the UK, north-east Scotland, and a chilly start
00:29
in some places as we begin Tuesday. Perhaps a touch of grass frost, but otherwise a few
00:34
missed patches first thing, soon lifting because the breeze will pick things up and that breeze
00:39
will push areas of cloud and some outbreaks of rain in from the west. A warm front crosses
00:45
the country effectively and you can just about make it out there. As it extends south, some
00:51
thicker cloud and some light outbreaks of rain for a time in the south, but much of
00:55
the rain will be focused across northern parts of the UK and those outbreaks of rain will
01:00
become increasingly persistent for north-west Highlands into the isles of Lewis and Harris
01:05
and so on. But for many it's drier and brighter into the afternoon and it is mild. We've got
01:11
a bit of brightness developing, 16-17C in the south, 13-16C further north and it's going
01:19
to be increasingly windy with that south-westerly. The wind bouncing off the hills of northern
01:25
England, southern Scotland to give some strong gusts, north-east England, south-east Scotland
01:28
and also gales for exposed north-western shores of Scotland. The persistent wet weather in
01:35
the north-west sinks south overnight to affect southern Scotland, northern Ireland and parts
01:40
of northern England by dawn on Wednesday. But with this wind, with the cloud everywhere
01:45
as well, it's certainly a mild night to come with temperatures not much lower than the
01:49
mid-teens in places by the start of Wednesday. However, the weather front that's now across
01:55
central parts, well it's stalling. It's developing these little ripples in it, they're known
02:00
as waves and pulses of rain will really just continue to affect this central zone, especially
02:07
south-west Scotland and north-west England throughout Wednesday and the start of Thursday.
02:12
So you can see it's a wet start for southern Scotland, mainly south of the central belt
02:16
but perhaps Edinburgh for a time and Cumbria, north Wales, seeing some heavy rainfall continuing
02:22
throughout Wednesday and into Thursday. Now for the likes of south-west Scotland, the
02:27
risk of 60mm over the hills, risk of localised flooding and for Cumbria, even more than that,
02:34
we're looking at 120-140mm over some of the peaks and in some spots 200mm throughout Wednesday
02:42
and the start of Thursday, so rain warning in force. But you can see that rain is really
02:46
focused in that area with a lot of fine weather to the south, some cloud breaks, a strong
02:51
wind and mild. Scotland and Northern Ireland, or at least the north of Northern Ireland
02:56
seeing brighter weather as well with a few showers in the north-west and a gusty breeze.
03:01
We're given some sunshine in the south-east, 17, perhaps even 18 Celsius is possible on
03:06
Wednesday, so very mild and a very mild night to come once again on Wednesday night, but
03:11
a bit colder further north. Follow us on social media and we'll keep you updated on
03:16
all of that. Of course you can find the weather warnings on the Met Office website and app.
03:20
Bye bye.
