Hi there, three zones of weather across the UK through the rest of Monday as a cold front
00:06
bisects the country and that's going to give a lot of cloud through Northern England, North
00:11
Wales, some outbreaks of drizzly rain. To the south of that, again, a lot of low cloud,
00:16
a few spots of rain and drizzle but some brighter spells possible at times as well. Brighter
00:20
skies emerging for Scotland and Northern Ireland, some decent sunshine for the north-east of
00:24
Scotland but showers moving into the west and north-west along with a blustery breeze.
00:30
It's still relatively mild across the north-west, 9 Celsius, a little milder further south as
00:36
well compared with recent days but the south-east still 4 or 5 Celsius, a little below average
00:41
for the time of year. Now, overnight, we're going to see that front basically stall across
00:45
central parts of the country. Again, outbreaks of rain and drizzle for North Wales, north
00:50
Midlands into Northern England on and off throughout much of the night. Showery rain
00:54
pushing into the north and west of Scotland but where we do get some clear spells in Scotland
01:00
and Northern Ireland, temperatures will fall close to freezing, perhaps a few patches of
01:04
ice and frost and fog. There'll also be some fog in the south and quite dense as we start
01:11
off Tuesday so potentially some poor visibility but that's going to tend to lift through the
01:16
morning. Various amounts of cloud floating about but also some brighter spells. Likewise,
01:21
Scotland and Northern Ireland see some sunny spells but also some showers moving into the
01:25
north-west on a blustery breeze but we've still got that zone of cloud and outbreaks
01:30
of drizzly rain through North Wales, Northern England and the north Midlands. Temperatures
01:34
typically at 5 to 8 Celsius, perhaps a little higher or a little lower in one or two spots
01:39
but that's the general feeling for Tuesday. Now, into Tuesday night, we're going to see
01:45
that front eventually fizzle away and move south-eastwards and it's going to then turn
01:51
much, much different later in the week because of what's happening across North America.
01:56
You might have seen it on the news that the presidential inauguration has been moved indoors
02:00
because of the cold weather and this is exceptionally cold weather that's spreading south across
02:05
much of Canada and the US central-eastern areas most impacted during Monday. But it's
02:11
also going to feed into, well, the more general northern hemisphere weather pattern courtesy
02:17
of the jet stream. That cold outbreak clashing with milder air further south will strengthen
02:22
the jet stream and that strong jet stream, 250 miles or so, will develop this area of
02:28
low pressure which is going to head our way for the end of the week and as you can see
02:32
it's likely to bring very tight isobars, especially to Western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:38
So we'll keep you updated on how that's going to play out over the next few days. You can
02:42
follow those updates on our YouTube channel as always or check the very latest on the
02:47
Met Office website and app. Bye-bye.
