Hi there.
00:01
Love it or hate it, it's going to be a very warm night across the UK.
00:05
High humidities, and despite the clear skies we're expecting, temperatures won't drop
00:10
much below the mid to high teens.
00:12
We've seen the heat extend across much of the UK during Friday as high pressure drifts
00:16
slowly to the east, but that does introduce some instability from the west, always a chance
00:21
of a few showers continuing into the hours of darkness, but for the vast majority it's
00:27
going to stay dry, we're going to see extensive clear spells, but we're also going to see
00:31
those high temperatures remaining.
00:34
So an uncomfortable night for sleeping for many, and a muggy start to the weekend.
00:40
Temperatures in some spots no lower than 20, 21 Celsius.
00:44
Even in the cooler areas, temperatures tending to stay in the teens.
00:48
Now we go into the start of the weekend with that warm air in place and it's only going
00:52
to get warmer throughout the day.
00:55
With that very strong June sunshine, it is the summer solstice, so the sun doesn't get
00:58
any stronger than this.
00:59
Very high UV levels, high pollen levels as well, grass pollen at the moment.
01:03
The temperatures will be highest towards the east.
01:05
Lower temperatures in the west compared with Friday, but still high humidity, so it's going
01:09
to feel oppressive in many places, and all this chance of some showers developing as
01:14
the day progresses, particularly towards the west.
01:17
Temperatures peaking at 31 to 33 or 34 Celsius somewhere between London, the Midlands and North-East
01:24
England.
01:25
And then with that heat in place, and we've got the winds changing direction, fresher
01:31
air moving in from the west, we're going to see the risk of thunderstorms as the day comes
01:36
to an end.
01:37
And the greatest risk area is this zone across parts of southern Scotland, North England,
01:43
North Midlands and North Wales.
01:44
In fact, it's across Northern England, North Midlands and North-East Wales where there is
01:48
a yellow thunderstorm warning at the time of recording.
01:52
And that's where there is the greatest risk of impacts from these thunderstorms that will
01:57
be hit and miss.
01:58
Obviously, not everywhere in this warning area will catch a thunderstorm, but that's where
02:02
the greatest risk of impacts from large hail, 2 to 4 centimetres, frequent lightning, gusty
02:07
winds and some very heavy rain will be later Saturday and going into the early hours of
02:14
Sunday.
02:15
That doesn't rule out thunderstorms elsewhere.
02:18
There could always be thunderstorms further south and further west.
02:21
In fact, there's another area of heavy downpours that is likely to affect parts of western
02:25
Scotland overnight.
02:27
Either way, it's going to be a warm night once again.
02:30
Temperatures widely in the mid-teens, but particularly towards the east and southeast.
02:34
Some places seeing temperatures stay at around 20 Celsius.
02:38
The liveliest thunderstorms then move through during Sunday morning.
02:41
A bright start for many, actually.
02:43
Some decent sunshine once again towards the southeast.
02:46
And there will be some sunny spells coming through elsewhere, but a lot of clouds starting
02:49
to appear from the west.
02:51
Further showers.
02:52
A very showery day indeed for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and parts of Wales.
02:57
Dryer towards the southeast.
02:58
That really sets the scene for next week.
03:00
It's going to be changeable with the Atlantic westerlies having returned.
03:03
There will be frequent showers, particularly towards the west and northwest.
03:07
Dryer towards the south and southeast, but fresher for all of us.
