Hi there, if you're a fan of crisp but bright winters days, you'll love Thursday afternoon.
00:06
High pressure has finally arrived and cloud-free skies are prevalent up and down the country
00:10
from Shetland down towards the far south-west.
00:14
But actually there is some patchy cloud and increasingly so for East Anglia and the south-east
00:18
with the easterly breeze starting to pick up and it'll also be breezy towards the north
00:23
and west of Scotland with some strong gusts for the Outer Hebrides and some patchy cloud
00:27
here.
00:28
But elsewhere, blue skies, plenty of sunshine and light winds so feeling very pleasant indeed
00:33
with highs of 7 to 9 Celsius.
00:36
Now the cloud I mentioned in the south-east will become more extensive during Thursday
00:40
evening and it will bring some showers into Kent, also parts of the far south coast.
00:46
With that patchy cloud and with the easterly breeze picking up, well actually that'll help
00:50
to stir the air up, it'll trap some warmth and so it won't be quite as frosty overnight
00:53
across the Midlands, the south and south-east of England, East Wales.
00:57
Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England, North Wales seeing plenty of clear skies,
01:01
light winds and so here temperatures will fall away, a frost in places and some fog
01:06
patches first thing.
01:08
But plenty of bright weather once again for the north and west of Scotland, certainly
01:11
Northern Ireland, sunny spells, North West England and West Wales.
01:15
Elsewhere increasingly cloudy and with that thicker cloud and stronger easterly breeze
01:20
we're going to see some showers move into the south.
01:24
Things will be sleety in places because it's going to be feeling cold, it'll feel especially
01:28
cold in the wind but temperatures a few degrees down on recent days, 4 to 6 Celsius.
01:35
Now the sleety rain I mentioned in the south, well that could give a very slight covering
01:40
of snow over the Downs, the Chilterns and then later on Friday night over the Welsh
01:44
Mountains perhaps more widespread and deeper snow over the Welsh Mountains and perhaps
01:50
the hills of the south-west as well.
01:53
So we're talking about hill snow, not low level snow, it would be rain and sleet at
01:57
lower levels because although we've got an easterly it's nowhere near like the beast
02:01
from the east.
02:02
To find out the full reasons for that watch Alex Deakin's 10 Day Trend which you can find
02:06
on the YouTube channel but in short the easterly has a southerly component, it's coming up
02:12
from the south-east and we've got some milder air mixed in with this area of low pressure
02:17
moving up from the south as we start the weekend rather than properly cold air coming all
02:23
the way from Siberia which is what happened with the beast from the east.
02:26
So not all easterly winds are the same, this one through the weekend and into the start
02:30
of next week is likely to bring some hill snow but at lower levels more likely cold
02:36
rain, sleet and very minimal amounts of snow I should say and it's going to be increasingly
02:43
grey as low pressure brings a series of weak fronts in from the south.
02:49
So yeah, colder, greyer skies as we go into the weekend and the start of next week away
02:55
from the far north-west and some sleet and hill snow in places.
03:00
You can find all the latest updates on our YouTube channel as always.
03:03
Bye bye.
