Hi there, it's been a fine Thursday for many of us but rain is now moving in and
00:06
it's going to cross the country west to east overnight courtesy of this
00:10
occluded front, a relatively active feature bringing a spell of heavy rain
00:14
and gusty winds as it moves across the UK. However, much of the more unsettled
00:20
weather takes place during the hours of darkness. Certainly for Northern Ireland,
00:24
Western Scotland, that rain soon to arrive during the evening it then bumps
00:26
into cold air across Northern England and Scotland which will lead to some
00:30
hill snow, falling snow above 200 metres, settling snow mostly above 500 metres, so
00:36
the odd road affected but widespread disruption unlikely. At lower levels, rain
00:41
and by dawn much the rain's fizzling out. However, southern counties of England
00:46
likely to see a continuation of the heavier outbreaks of rain. A lot of cloud
00:51
as well as we start off Friday and feeling cold under the grey leaden skies
00:56
and outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Northern Ireland, parts of Wales and
01:01
Western Scotland meanwhile start off with at least some sunshine and those
01:06
are brighter skies are going to gradually move eastwards but not before
01:10
we see this extensive low cloud across central Scotland, it's northern and
01:14
eastern England, parts of the Midlands. It's a slow process in terms of
01:19
brightening up from the west and certainly for eastern England we keep
01:22
the low cloud, some mist patches and some drizzle right the way through to the
01:26
afternoon. But where we do have some sunshine, Northern Ireland, parts of
01:30
Western and South West Scotland, Wales and the South West, it's a lovely end to
01:34
the day. Blue skies, 8 or 9 Celsius generally, not feeling quite as cold as
01:39
it has been across the north of Scotland, either 5 or 6 degrees. Now we keep the
01:44
cloud there across eastern parts of England into Friday night where we've
01:48
got clear skies elsewhere, there will be some frost and fog forming and there's
01:53
this gap in between weather systems actually where we do have the clear
01:57
skies and the lowest temperatures by dawn on Saturday, some fog patches, a lot
02:03
of low cloud, mist and fog also likely across parts of the East Midlands into
02:07
East Anglia in the southeast, 2 or 3 Celsius here and then we've got the next
02:12
system pushing outbreaks of rain, a freshening breeze and some cloud into
02:17
Western Scotland and Northern Ireland, so a three-way split on Saturday morning
02:22
as far as the weather's concerned. This central slice likely to see some fog
02:26
lifting and the frost clearing, so brighter skies for a time, staying
02:30
largely dry and the low cloud in the southeast will also tend to lift a
02:33
little, some breaks appearing by the afternoon, although a few spots of rain
02:37
and drizzle couldn't be ruled out as well. But for Western Scotland, Northern
02:40
Ireland, we've got a keen breeze from the south-southwest and outbreaks of rain or
02:46
drizzle continuing with a lot of cloud cover, so yeah, it's a largely cloudy day
02:52
but we do have some of those sunnier skies persisting through central parts.
02:56
6, 7 Celsius, feeling rather chilly, a little bit milder actually as this cloud
03:02
thickens across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, that's where the
03:06
highest temperatures are expected because of the breeze coming from the
03:10
south-southwest. Later in the day, the rain does tend to move into northwestern
03:15
parts of the UK but it again fizzles out and that will lead to a grey and
03:20
damp day for many on Sunday but the rain not particularly heavy by the time it
03:25
moves into central and southern parts of the country and it's a repeat
03:29
performance into the start of next week. Changeable, some rain at times but
03:34
nothing desperately unsettled on the horizon.
