Hi there. Some low cloud persisting overnight, but where we do see clear spells, there will
00:07
also be dense fog patches, so a gloomy start in places by Tuesday morning. Most likely
00:12
areas for clear spells, southern parts of England through the Midlands, East Wales.
00:17
So here, temperatures have fallen away, a few dense fog patches. Scotland and Northern
00:22
Ireland, clear spells I think will come and go because we've got areas of showers moving
00:25
through. Nevertheless, where we do see some prolonged clear spells, a touch of frost,
00:30
perhaps some ice and fog patches about first thing. But through this central swathe, well,
00:37
it's a milder start because we've got a lot of low cloud courtesy of a stalled weather
00:41
front bisecting the country. North Wales, parts of Northern England, continuing to see
00:46
drizzly rain, most persistent across North Wales. Now, for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:52
turns out to be a day of sunny spells and showers, the most frequent showers affecting
00:56
the Western Isles and Shetland as well as Orkney. But further south, a lot of low cloud,
01:02
whether you've got the foggy start or the grey start, it's going to be a fairly gloomy
01:08
day. Limited bright spells, but there could be one or two as the cloud thins occasionally.
01:13
The front across central parts, well, that tends to very slowly move south-eastwards.
01:19
As it does, we can expect an increase in the damp weather across southern parts of
01:23
England into the Midlands overnight. Further north, clear spells finally breaking through
01:28
for North Wales. Northern England, a colder start to Wednesday here compared with Tuesday.
01:32
Touch of frost in places. One or two showers just lurking around Irish Sea coasts and more
01:37
especially Western and Northern Scotland seeing those showers continuing to feed in as well
01:42
as the north coast of Northern Ireland. Wednesday, though, we'll see mixed conditions across
01:47
the UK. A lot of cloud through the Midlands, East Anglia and the south with outbreaks of
01:52
rain slowly trundling south-eastwards. Further north and west, skies are brightening, some
01:58
sunshine coming through. One or two showers, relatively quiet day, 4 to 7 degrees for most.
02:05
Into Thursday, well, the Atlantic starts to get its act together and that's because of
02:11
this that's occurring at the time of recording. You may have seen the consequences of this
02:16
cold spell across North America on the news and it is an exceptionally cold spell across
02:23
Canada and the US. It's coming into central and eastern parts of North America but it
02:28
will also have important consequences on the UK's weather and that's because as it comes
02:33
south during Tuesday, it mixes with the much warmer air to the south and that fires up
02:39
a very powerful jet stream, 250 miles an hour. That's going to flow across the Atlantic and
02:45
it's going to, as is often the case, deepen these areas of low pressure and send them
02:50
our way. The first ones to turn up sends the first band of rain through on Thursday followed
02:55
by further wet and windy weather on Friday. In fact, look at the tightness of those isobars.
03:01
It could cause some serious impacts in places and that's why we at the Met Office are keeping
03:06
a close eye on this system. We have already issued a yellow warning for the risk of impacts
03:11
most possible across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland. So, of course, we'll keep
03:16
you updated on all of that and you can follow those updates on our YouTube channel. Bye-bye.
