12 July - national forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon. Well, it's going to be another hot and sunny day out there.
00:04Yesterday, we got up to 34.7 degrees in England, and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales today
00:11could see their hottest day of the year so far. So taking a look at the bigger picture,
00:17then we've got this ridge of high pressure extending across the UK, keeping things fine
00:21and settled. But if you're not a fan of the heat, well, there's some good news on the way.
00:25Low pressure will start arriving Sunday night and into Monday. So some fresher,
00:31cooler conditions on the way, but also bringing some showery outbreaks of rain and some thunderstorms.
00:38But back to the rest of this afternoon then. Well, water will sunshine for many of us. Strong
00:45summer sunshine as well with high UV levels. So do take care if you are out and about today.
00:50Low cloud always lingering across the eastern coast. And here, that's where it's going to be
00:56feeling coolest today. Otherwise, out towards the west, that's where we'll see the highest
01:01temperatures. So we'll see temperatures climbing up to 34 degrees across parts of South Wales and the
01:08West Midlands. Northern Ireland, 28, 29, possibly 30 degrees. And Scotland in the west, we may see
01:15temperatures climbing 30, 31, possibly 32 degrees. But you can see cooler across that eastern coast.
01:24There could even be the odd shower just developing across the south of Wales and the west of Northern
01:29Ireland, but otherwise fine and dry. So as we go through Saturday evening, then we'll see the return
01:35of this low cloud from the North Sea, just edging further inland as we go through the night.
01:42Clearer skies always out towards the west, so Northern Ireland, Wales, southwest of England.
01:48But it is going to be another warm night out there and uncomfortable for sleeping. So temperatures
01:54not falling below 16, 17, possibly 18 degrees in some places.
01:59So as we start Sunday morning, then a cloudier start out there for some of us. That cloud will
02:06lift and break to reveal sunny or bright spells. Best of the sunshine tomorrow will be across Northern
02:12Ireland and Scotland. Southern parts of Scotland, though, may see the odd shower bubbling up. Likewise
02:18for northern parts of England and parts of Wales, with the sunshine turning increasingly hazy later on in
02:24the day across the far southwest of England, where we could see the odd shower. Otherwise, tomorrow
02:31it's still going to be very warm in places high as 29, 30, 31 degrees, always cooler along that eastern
02:38coast, but just not as hot as what we'll see this afternoon. So as we go through Sunday evening,
02:46then that's where we start to see our weather changing. So we'll start to see some showery outbreaks
02:50of rain arriving from the west, with always this low cloud still lingering across eastern coasts.
02:57So like I said, turning more unsettled as we go through Monday and Tuesday. But for more details on that,
