00:00Bailey bunts his strike, foul into the net.
00:03Shows bunt again in the air.
00:05Foul again.
00:07Strike two.
00:08Now he'll swing the 0-2.
00:11To center field, Altman has a read on it.
00:14Schmidt tags from second, and he's going to hold.
00:17Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:22All right, Patrick Bailey failed to get a bunt down in the bottom of the 10th.
00:26And Giants end up not scoring, and they lose 5-2 in 11.
00:34So, all right.
00:38I got a couple questions for Giants fans.
00:41For the Giants fans that are hand-wringing, if you will.
00:47And you could be one of those fans right now, right?
00:51Hand-wringing.
00:52No, I'm just calling it like I see it.
00:56So, let's take their last six games.
01:01They beat Philadelphia 3-1 in the first game of a three-game series.
01:06Good game.
01:07Games 1-1 in the bottom of the 8th.
01:09Giants get 2 in the bottom of the 8th.
01:11They win 3-1.
01:13Good, hard-fought win.
01:15Pitching, defense.
01:17Next night, they win 4-3.
01:20Patrick Bailey, the hero.
01:23Came from behind.
01:24Came from 3-1 down.
01:26Phillies beat them in Game 3.
01:2713-0.
01:28Big deal.
01:28They took 2 out of 3.
01:31Then, the Dodgers.
01:33They win a one-run game against the Dodgers.
01:37They lose a one-run game against the Dodgers.
01:40And then, they lose an extra inning game against the Dodgers.
01:44You play this many close games.
01:49You won a game in the bottom of the 8th.
01:52You won a game in the bottom of the 9th.
01:54You held on on Friday.
01:56And then, you let one get away Sunday.
01:58I just, like, you can't win all these games.
02:03Nope.
02:04You're living on the edge.
02:06And the problem to me, Stiney, is why are these games so close after you acquired a bat?
02:13That's my major question.
02:15Forget the pitching.
02:16Why has the Giants offense still stayed stagnant after an acquiring Ralphie Devers?
02:22And our guy, Leroy, I want you to answer this.
02:24I don't have the answer, Stiney.
02:25I just, I'm thinking about it.
02:27The Giants are losing because Buster Posey tried to fix something that wasn't broken.
02:33Talking about the Giants offense.
02:35Leroy, it was broken.
02:37You were just getting the benefit of the doubt and the, and the, you were getting good luck
02:42pulling all these games out.
02:43But there is a disconnect since you had a bat like Devers, and now he's batting 2-0-2,
02:50striking out left and right.
02:53So, who do we blame?
02:55Devers?
02:56Posey?
02:57The Giants?
03:00I mean, you acquired a guy who's not hitting right now.
03:04And that's the one positive I take, because all we can sit here and do, Stiney, is we don't
03:10have to blame anybody.
03:12We just hope that it'll come back and they'll play to their normal selves.
03:17And their history, the back of their baseball card.
03:19Well, and that's where I think we've got to be realistic, because Adamus is not going to
03:25be the back of his baseball card this year.
03:30He's just not.
03:31But if he's a 300 hitter the rest of this season, or 280, and looking like his old self, I mean,
03:38that's a big deal.
03:39Imagine where they'd be without that production of him.
03:42I mean, I know you're saying it's just a month, but good Lord, it's a good sign.
03:47That's what you need.
03:47Devers, it's like, there are no good signs.
03:51Now teams are walking, intentional walking the guy before you, because they think they can get you.
03:57And they got him yesterday.
03:58I mean, Willie Adamus, you know, saying he'd get up to two, like, he's a 245 lifetime hitter, Adamus.
04:06Like, he doesn't hit for average.
04:09Last four years, he's hit 238, 217, 251, 220.
04:15And then the year before that, but only in 99 games, he hit 285.
04:20That's by far the highest average he's ever had.
04:23So he, like, to say, I don't know that he can hit 280 over the second half of the season.
04:30Like, he's not a 280 hitter.
04:33Well, he's doing that now.
04:34This last month, Ston, he's down here at 300.
04:36And that makes it even more so that he's unlikely to do it.
04:39Because he's, like, I mean, I'm just looking at his lifetime average, and it's 245.
04:45Right, but it's a lot of power behind that, too.
04:48So just you reading that has me or any giant fan listening, Ston, to where, okay, if you're saying that's where he normally ends up at is the power numbers.
04:56And that's what we've seen from him, the ability to hit the ball deep.
05:00I mean, he's been mastering triples, Allie.
05:02The other night, what, he hit one out of triples.
05:05Like, that was a, that was a man that was a shot.
05:08So there's not too far to go there in regard to me talking about Adamus and the average.
05:14But the power and the thump has been there, Ston.
05:16Now he's your third-place hitter.
05:19They had him six or seven.
05:20Now it's about getting the others if they can turn the corner or show signs.
05:26And Ramos is in a, he's in a slump, Ston.
05:28He, like, 62, 63, 64, a bad slump.
05:32I mean, the thing about Adamus is, you're right.
05:38Like, he's one of their better hitters now.
05:39And he's still not very good.
05:40And they just, like, I don't, I don't know.
05:45If you're a Giants fan, do you think this team's underachieving?
05:50And I'm asking you that as an entire team.
05:52Like, we can say their hitting's underachieving a little bit.
05:55But I think it's been made up for by the pitching staff.
05:58And can we absolutely think that the pitching staff's going to be as good
06:03in the second half as they were in the first?
06:05I don't know.
06:07I think it would be a lot to ask.
06:09I really do.
06:10But they're going to play low-scoring games because they pitch and they don't hit.
06:17And there's going to be a lot of games, like the last six.
06:20What's that?
06:21One, two.
06:21You know, essentially five out of the six games were determined late, you know,
06:27in the last eighth or ninth inning.
06:29And, like, I don't see any way around that.
06:33I think that's just going to have to be their M.O. right now.
06:37Even with more improvement, if Buster was to make a move or two.
06:41I mean, we would still have to see.
06:42Obviously, you can't answer that.
06:44But, Stoddy, if you're Buster, what are you feeling right now?
06:47I mean, this is where I think if you're Buster Posey and you're taking the long view,
06:54I think you feel fine about this team, believe it or not.
06:58You know, you win three out of the last four instead of one out of the last four,
07:02and I'll bet everybody feels a lot different.
07:04But you lose two out of three to the Dodgers and, you know,
07:08just doesn't quite feel as good after you lose a game that you had a crack at on Sunday.
07:14But you hadn't scored to the ninth inning,
07:18and you just hate to see, of all guys, Matos come up there and do what he did,
07:23and the place is packed, and not even the impact on the standings,
07:28just how good, like you just said, you would feel about taking two or three from the Dodgers
07:32and sending all those Dodger fans home upset.
07:35And you don't handle your business offensively because the pitching in the bullpen
07:40and the top of the 10th kept the Dodgers off the board.
07:43I mean, and we've seen that a lot this year with big-time pitchers.
07:51Yamamoto just absolutely stifled the Giants yesterday.
07:56Gave up no runs.
07:59So I don't know, I just, you know, if you're asking me can the Giants play better,
08:03yeah, I think they can.
08:04And certainly when they hit it, you know, they can hit better.
08:09But I don't think they're a dramatically different team
08:13than they've been in the first half of the season.
08:15I mean, they played 97 games, is that what it is?
08:20Yeah.
08:2097.
08:21So they've almost played.
08:22That's a lot.
08:22Exactly.
08:23And they're seven games over.
08:24And I feel like, yeah, that's about right.
08:27I don't feel like they should be 12 over.
08:29I don't feel like they should be 500.
08:31See.
08:31I think they're seven games over.
08:34That's an 86-win pace.
08:36And what was their over-under before the season?
08:39Like 81-82?
08:40It might have been around 81-82.
08:41Yeah, but guys, real quick, that was predicated before you had a bat like Ralphie Davis.
08:45But you've got to take away Harrison, too.
08:47And when Harrison was traded, it wasn't a big deal.
08:53But it's an extra arm they don't have right now.
08:57And, again, like how do you, you know, you could say Buster Posey,
09:00go out and make another move or go out and make moves.
09:03And, obviously, if they can improve the team, it can improve the team.
09:07But, you know, you just, there's just, you go get Devers and you're 11-16 since you got him.
09:16There's not a walking soul that would have took that bet.
09:20I don't, I mean.
09:21You know, it's not.
09:21Come on, man.
09:22And I'm going to just say it.
09:23What did we expect?
09:24Like one guy.
09:25I thought he was healthy.
09:26I think he is not healthy.
09:28Okay.
09:28And if you're going to tell me, partner, they're not going to sit him down or demand him,
09:31just take a week, man.
09:33We want you to just take a week.
09:35And it might not even work.
09:36But to sit here and watch Melvin do the same presser each night when he,
09:42when Devers is not doing his thing at the plate, you got to scratch your head.
09:45The dude has not forgotten how to play baseball.
09:48And, Stani, I'll say this to your last point about, you know, dude,
09:52losing two or three to the White Sox, getting swept at home to the Marlins,
09:55even though they're playing a little better baseball.
09:57That's, that's, you can't have that.
10:00You cannot have that.
10:02Those are like, what?
10:03Those are five losses that you got on the tally that I just thought the Giants
10:08were a better team than that.
10:09Just putting a jersey on.
10:12You won't, you know?
10:14I mean.
10:18So Ramos, Austin San Jose saying Ramos is what he is.
10:22He was an all-star last year.
10:23Stani, this is almost 70 at bat.
10:25I'm just asking you because I don't know what to make of him.
10:29How concerned are you about Ramos?
10:31Because he was there.
10:32Remember the Bates was loaded double and all that emotion about a month ago.
10:38And he's struggling.
10:39He ain't the only one.
10:40But I'm assuming he is going, once he gets hot, he's going to get hot
10:44and look like the guy that we made the all-star team last year.
10:49You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco.

10:57Always live on the free Odyssey app.
10:59Coming to you live from the Laughing Monk studio.
11:01Laughing Monk righteously brewed in San Francisco.
11:07I mean, Ramos, man.
11:13I mean, guys, what's Ramos hitting?
11:172.65, he's got 14 homers.
11:20Like, that's who I think we think Ramos is, right?
11:262.70, 2.75, 20 to 25 homers.
11:3080 ribbies, something like that.
11:34Like, he's pretty much doing what he's been asked to do offensively.
11:39Let's go to Chris.
11:42Chris is in San Jose.
11:43Hey, Chris.
11:44Gentlemen, I love to hear you cry.
11:48This is my monthly phone call.
11:49I'm a big-time Dodger fan, as you can tell.
11:52You guys will never be us.
11:55It'll be 50 years before you win another championship.
11:58And if you got Devers, you need to put someone behind him.
12:02Hello?
12:03They're going to pitch around, Devers.
12:04God bless him.
12:05He can hit.
12:06We know that.
12:06But if you don't put anyone behind him, he ain't going to get no good pitches.
12:11You should know this by now.
12:13Hey, real quick.
12:13Oh, no.
12:14Hey, he's getting pitches to hit.
12:16Go to Chris.
12:17He's getting pitches to hit, man.
12:19I wish it was they were pitching around him.
12:21Yes, he is, man.
12:22No, he's not.
12:23Oh, Tony threw the ball right by him, man.
12:25They're throwing the ball.
12:26Average dudes are throwing the ball right by him.
12:29Don't say he's not getting pitches to hit, man.
12:32He's getting pitches to hit.
12:33That's why people are concerned.
12:34He's missing it, isn't he?
12:38Yes.
12:39If he has pitches to hit, why is he hitting them?
12:42Because he's been figured out.
12:44He has weaknesses in his team.
12:46Have you been watching the game?
12:49And I just told you what I got from watching the game.
12:51Devers is getting pitches to hit, man.
12:55But why is he hitting them?
12:57Well, he's in a slump.
12:58The ball is not.
12:59He has one spot where he can hit a ball.
13:02Let him away.
13:04All right, thanks, Chris.
13:05Appreciate the call.
13:07No, I disagree.
13:12I.
13:15That's a Dodger fan, though.
13:17You knew one was coming.
13:19I mean, Devers is the protection.
13:21He's the most accomplished hitter they got.
13:23That's why we got all excited.
13:25So, what did you say?
13:2611 and 16, whatever the record is.
13:28I don't know why that is and why he hasn't performed as of yet.
13:31And it's bigger than just him being at home, too.
13:36Or in this park.
13:37Again, the other thing is, people hate when I say this, but when you go get everyday players,
13:44then you're going to have to live with slumps like Ramos is having.
13:49You're going to have to live with what Devers has done.
13:52You're going to have to live with the first half that Adamas had.
13:55Like, you know, those are Chapman, Adamas, and Devers are three everyday players that Buster Posey got.
14:04Put them into the lineup.
14:05New players over the last two years.
14:08And, you know, Chapman's been great defensively.
14:11He's been pretty solid offensively.
14:14But the other two guys are their big bats.
14:16And they're not hitting.
14:19And Ramos is not hitting over the last month, month and a half.
14:22And there we go.
14:23But Adamas is showing life.
14:25Even though I know you don't like it.
14:26But I'm going to say it.
14:27Whatever.
14:27It's time to laugh.
14:28I mean, what does that mean?
14:29We've got to give him credit for these last month of baseball.
14:32And this is what you do.
14:33He's gotten up off the mat.
14:34Yeah, you give him credit for a month.
14:35I'm going to look at the first three months.
14:37Baseball is baseball.
14:38He's hitting .220.
14:39Like, yes, he's picked that average up from .201 to .220.
14:44But that's not going to get it done, I don't think, for the Giants.
14:48They need Adamas to hit.
14:50They need Devers to hit.
14:51They need a bunch of guys to hit.
14:54And I don't look at this.
14:56When you have six guys hitting below .250 or whatever it is,
15:03you're not going to string together a lot of rallies.
15:06And then on top of it, you don't hit a lot of homers.
15:11So that tells me you have a lot of singles and doubles hitters
15:14who don't hit for average.
15:17So then you're going to have to put three hits together in an inning
15:20to score a run.
15:22And I don't see enough good hitters in that lineup to do that consistently.
15:30So does Posey have to go make another move?
15:32I was just going to ask you, what do you do then?
15:34Because I thought Devers was enough.
15:37I think a lot of people did.
15:39I mean, you know, the question is, how long does this, like,
15:44how long does the rest of the season go before we start thinking about,
15:48uh-oh, Devers and Adamas?
15:52Well, I don't know what's going on in Boston, his former team,
15:55but what was their record you said?
15:57They're over .500 since his departure?
15:59Like, man, I just, again, wow.
16:04You know, they lose him, and they play better baseball,
16:07and the team gets them, and the offense has been impotent.
16:11Yeah, I mean, what do you make of the, uh,
16:14what do you make of, since Devers is here,
16:16their average and a half run less?
16:19I don't know how to explain that other than baseball's weird.
16:23Yeah, you want my honest answer?
16:24Yeah.
16:24And I told Evan on Friday and the listeners,
16:27Stanley, I think he's hurt, man.
16:29And I can't change his diaper.
16:30Nobody's asked him to, but if you don't sit him down
16:33or at least try to rest him more than just these four games,
16:37you're beating your head against a wall
16:38if he's showing you every at-bat or every game that something's going on.
16:43And I give him all the credit in the world trying to go out there
16:47and beat John Wayne, but how long is this going to go?
16:50I mean, honestly, again, this is, like,
16:54you're not taking Devers out of the lineup
16:56unless he's going on to the injured list.
16:59Yeah, because if he hits like this the rest of the way,
17:01Stanley, they're not making the playoffs,
17:03and I don't expect him to.
17:05And I hope I'm not coming in here trying to give a new Rolex watch to Adamus,
17:11but I got to give him all the credit in the world for the past third.
17:15Like, baseball's vicious, Donnie.
17:17It's every day in the last 30 days.
17:20Friday night, that bomb he hit, Triples Alley.
17:22I was like, okay, dude, that was a bomb.
17:24So Adamus is showing signs, and you're right.
17:27You can't change how bad he was at the beginning,
17:30but at least you drink your coffee this morning,
17:32and you're like, maybe the break came at the wrong time for Adamus.
17:35How do we get others in that column of they're showing signs
17:40and coming out of life?
17:40And Ramos is a part of that.
17:42And maybe these four days off will help him.
17:45888-957-9570 is the number.
17:50Giants are 52-45 at the All-Star break.
17:53Do you think they should be better?
17:56Should they have 55 wins and 44 losses?
18:01Should this team be 10 over?
18:03I knew they were in trouble after that baggerly article.
18:14But you said they could get 15 over.
18:17But you understood the genesis of the article.
18:20We all did.
18:21There were standards.
18:22And here we are, three weeks later,
18:25and everybody's still crying over the Marlins and the White Sox series.
18:31Guess what?
18:32I brought that up.
18:32Guess what?
18:34You got to go out and win games.
18:37You don't just win games because you're playing a bad team.
18:40And that little stretch hurt them.
18:42There's no doubt.
18:43And for the caller, the Dodger fan that called, miss me.
18:47Devers is the protection.
18:48I know he struggled early on this year in Boston.
18:51But miss me, he's not getting pitches to hit.
18:53I'm watching the game.
18:54He's getting pitches to hit, Stony.
18:56He's not hitting them, and he's striking out more than I've seen him strike out
19:00in a long time.
19:01So miss me with he's not getting the pitches.
19:04That's what's alarming.
19:06I mean, he's hitting 202 since he's been a giant.
19:11Fast ball's getting blown by him.
19:14Let me see how many strikeouts he's got with the Giants in 25 games.
19:19Almost more than half of what he had with Boston.
19:21He's got 34.
19:23So he's got 34 strikeouts in 109 games.
19:28Yeah, you're right, Gu.
19:29He had three times as many at-bats in Boston,
19:35and he struck out 76 times.
19:37What do you make of that?
19:38New ballpark, new league.
19:40Maybe he's not healthy.
19:42But every game's not here, Stony on third and king.
19:46No, but half of them are.
19:48And, I mean, he's a just, you know, used to,
19:53when a guy goes from the American League to the National League
19:56or National to American, they say there's an adjustment.
19:59Maybe that's what's going on.
20:02Not quite sure, but.
