00:00Bob Melvin had his option for 2026 picked up earlier this afternoon.
00:04What was the first thing that you said about the timing of this?
00:08My thought was that this was Buster Posey saying to the team,
00:12it's not Bob, it's you.
00:15And I think it's the same signal he said to the fan base,
00:17like all you fans who are getting ready to light the torch
00:21and find your pitchfork and come for Pat and Bob,
00:24it's not Pat and Bob.
00:25It might be Pat, stay tuned.
00:27But it's not Bob Melvin.
00:28It's the players.
00:30That's what I thought when I saw the news.
00:31Okay, and I had a similar but a little bit of a different take,
00:35which was, okay, you're halfway through the year
00:38and you have some frustrating things happening in the standings.
00:43And Buster, the timing of it suggests we're not going to let the masses
00:49start talking about Bob Melvin's job status if this goes south.
00:54If we miss the playoffs, are we going to get into July and August
00:58and have everybody going, fire Melvin, don't re-sign him, all this?
01:02Buster doesn't want that sound.
01:04So for me, that was the timing.
01:06Halfway point, don't let him be a lame duck.
01:09Pick this thing up.
01:10Well, I would blend basically what you said and what I said,
01:14and if it had a baby together, it's what Buster said.
01:17So here's the quote.
01:18Our two takes had a baby.
01:19Pretty much.
01:20Okay.
01:20Here's the quote.
01:21Sometimes when you're going through a rough patch,
01:23there's a tendency to want to point the finger at the coaches.
01:27And if anybody deserves any blame from the top, it should be me.
01:31It shouldn't be on our manager or coaching staff.
01:35I'm the one who sets the roster.
01:37So I felt like with all those things considered,
01:40this was a good time for me to show my belief in Bob and his coaching staff.
01:44End quote.
01:46You don't usually get this, by the way.
01:48No.
01:49Buster is admitting that timing of the losing streak
01:52was absolutely a part of doing this now with regard to Bob Melvin.
01:58And then obviously he's also jumping out in front of all the bullets
02:01and saying, get mad at me because he knows he's Buster Posey.
02:04He just traded for Rafi Devers, so he's untouchable.
02:07So let me just say this with tongue so firmly in cheek,
02:11you might need surgery to remove it.
02:13Buster's got to go.
02:14Ha!
02:15You know?
02:15Yeah.
02:16It's like, seriously, Buster, you're going to go ahead and step in front of the angry mob.
02:21And so the angry mob rolls up to Oracle Park, and we are mad.
02:25This team is falling apart and all the rest of it.
02:28And out comes old number 28, and he's got his shin guards on for old time's sake,
02:32and he's got the chest protector, and he's got his mask in his hands.
02:35Guys, I'm sorry.
02:36This is all on me.
02:38All right.
02:39Angry mob, let's go home.
02:40Uh-huh.
02:41What are we going to do to Buster, right?
02:43He just gave Bob Melvin a big Buster hug.
02:45That's basically what he did.
02:47Totally.
02:47And there's also a line in here that if I'm Logan Webb, and Logan's been great,
02:55but he's one of the leaders.
02:56If I'm Willie Adamas, if I'm Rafi Devers, I'm going to hear that line,
03:02and I'm going to take it personally, and I think that's exactly what Buster wants to do.
03:07It's not on the manager.
03:09It's not on the coaches.
03:11But then he doesn't do like what Bob Renly did on the roast yesterday and go,
03:16this is on the players.
03:17You and I said it, too.
03:18Sure.
03:18He didn't say this is on the players.
03:20He goes, this is on me.
03:21But what's the very next sentence out of his mouth?
03:24I'm the one who sets the roster, which is his passive-aggressive way of saying,
03:29it's the roster.
03:31It's not the coach.
03:32It's not the manager.
03:34It's the roster.
03:35I put this roster in place, and right now this roster is disappointing us.
03:41So in a way, he's like, put the blame on me, but he's not.
03:44He's putting the blame on the players.
03:46The players will read this.
03:47They will hear this.
03:48They are the roster.
03:49And he's absolutely right.
03:52He's 100% right.
03:53As annoying as baseball, it's process, it's umpires, it's review.
03:58As annoying as all of this is, it does not allow the Giants' roster to escape the way
04:05that they continue to play baseball.
04:07Devers 0-4 with four strikeouts last night?
04:10Four.
04:11The golden sombrero.
04:12And Jung-Hoo Lee, who will sit today and collect his thoughts and hopefully take some dry swings.
04:20I don't know what kind of swings he's going to take.
04:22Wet swings.
04:23Wet swings.
04:24Well, when you're Jung-Hoo Lee, all swings are dry swings, unfortunately.
04:28That and the pitches he's been chasing, maybe he can just watch a horror movie, which would
04:33be his June at-bats, because he's taken bad cuts at bad pitches, and he's not the same
04:39player that he was in April.
04:41So you're right, Mark.
04:42And you look up and down the roster, and you feel for Logan last night, where he pitched
04:47another Logan Webb kind of game, damn good, damn solid, a keep-you-in-it kind of a ball
04:53game, and then he walks off the mound when he finally gets taken out, and maybe Bob left
04:58him in a little too long.
04:59He got over 100 pitches, and he was starting to get a little wobbly, and he gives up the
05:04second run, and he's walking off the mound, and all I could think about was, this poor guy,
05:08I mean, he got caned.
05:10He's going to get caned again.
05:11He gives up two runs, and you're going to lose, and that's the way that goes.
05:16Well, the Giants tied it up at two, and they went with him, they put him back out there.
05:19Yes, he was, I don't think he was in the game anymore when it scored, but he was credited
05:24with the, responsible for the third run.
05:26But no, he pitched great.
05:27He's an all-star.
05:28Logan Webb's an all-star, but can't get to anywhere near 10 wins in time for the all-star
05:37game.
05:38By the way, with the information that you do know, or have you already looked at it?
05:42Have you looked at the lineup?
05:43Yeah, I'm looking at it right now.
05:44I just, I was, I looked at it because when I heard that Wilmer's playing third, and there's
05:49no Jung Huli, I was starting to think about, like, it's a who's a who?
05:54Well, I thought, my mind went to, with Matos coming back, I'm like, I'll bet Yaz is in
05:59center, and Matos is in right, but no, Yaz is still in right, Matos is not in the lineup,
06:05and in center field is a guy who, I'll be real, I forgot that he was still on the roster.
06:10Oh.
06:11Daniel Johnson.
06:12Daniel Johnson will be in center field tonight, and then the infield is going to be Wilmer
06:17at third base, prayers up.
06:19Willie Adamas at short, Tyler Fitzgerald at second, and Dominic Smith back in the lineup
06:24at first.
06:25Rafi Devers will again be the DH.
06:27Hayden Bergsong will be on the mound, and hopefully they'll have him dot the third hitter in the
06:31game, because we just can't have this anymore, all this losing and all this carrying on.
06:37Let's throw at somebody, and that'll make it better.
06:39You don't necessarily have to throw at somebody, but it would be nice if you showed a little
06:43fire, and maybe you shake something up, and I can't help but think about the Will Clark
06:48slide in his second base against the Cardinals when he famously went all the way through
06:53Ozzie, and I think Jose Akendo was on the scene.
06:56Well, that's who hit him in the head.
06:57Well, they both took umbrage with the slide, and next thing you know, the pride of Mississippi
07:01is out there throwing hands.
07:03I'm not saying you get to that level, but can we shake somebody up here a little bit?
07:08I don't know, Grandy.
07:10I mean, show some fire here tonight.
07:12The Diamondbacks have shaken things up a little bit, because they have announced the fan who
07:17interfered last night, and has a history of doing it, has been banned from Chase Field,
07:22but only for the rest of the season.
07:24Wow.
07:26So he'll be back, and he'll do it again next year, like he's done each of the last three
07:29years.
07:30Okay, so they are confirming what social media tracked last night, that this is the same
07:35dude.
07:36I don't know if they've officially confirmed that, but...
07:39Okay.
07:40This guy has done this no less than five times, and what they came up with was, you need to
07:47sit out the second half of 2025.
07:49So you're basically looking at maybe 40 games, which, if that's how many home games they have
07:56left, I don't know the exact number, but we're about halfway through.
07:59Baseball's unbelievable.
08:00And I always wonder about these, like, bands.
08:03So do they have his face at every gate?
08:06Like, what's to keep this dude from going, like, and sitting in a different seat?
08:10Yeah, what's to keep this guy from getting a little Botox and a pair of shades and try
08:16and stop me?
08:17A haircut?
08:18Like, try and stop me.
08:21Botox.
08:22That's classic.
08:22Right?
08:23You think that kind of facial recognition is going to keep me out of a ballpark?
08:28More from the Dinovacs.
08:29I don't buy it.
08:29By the way, on if he can return in 2026 and beyond, they said only if, quote, he meets
08:35certain terms and abides by our fan code of conduct.
08:39How about this?
08:41Like, I don't want to wait to see if he abides by it.
08:44Here's the deal.
08:45You're gone for at least the rest of this year.
08:48I more like would have said next year also.
08:50And then when you come back, here's what you're allowed to do.
08:54Sit in the upper deck.
08:55You are never allowed in the bottom deck of this stadium ever again.
09:00Well, just like seventh row or further back.
09:02No, upper deck.
09:03Well, he's already in the upper deck.
09:05He's above the fence in the outfield.
09:06No, that's the whole point in Arizona is right there on the bottom.
09:10It's just like Oracle Park.
09:12The bleachers are the bottom.
09:14That's the lower deck.
09:15Right.
09:16No, upper deck with you.
09:18Up.
09:19He's got his own escalator.
09:21You know what that is?
09:23Yeah, I do.
09:24Yeah.
09:24All right.
09:24It's a relocation sensation is what it is.
09:27Cha-ching!
09:28I was going to go with escalation, but anyway.
09:30I know.
09:30Trying to play along.
