00:00Hey, Trev Chirps is here, and we can't wait to talk to him.
00:02And again, this came up on Mookie Betts' OnBase podcast via the Bleacher Report.
00:09Listen to what Jackson Merrill of the San Diego Padres recently said.
00:14You've seen this dude, Trev Chirps, on Instagram.
00:16He's a Giants fan.
00:17He just, like, is out there.
00:18And he chirped me.
00:19He was like, I bet you always three-putt.
00:21Jackson!
00:22I bet you always three-putt!
00:24You bum!
00:26You can't make a par to save your life, brother!
00:30So the whole first month of this offseason, I three-putter more every single green.
00:34And I never three-putt.
00:35Putting is the strongest part of my game, and I three-putt it every time.
00:39Okay, he joins us now.
00:40His name is Trevor Gilmore, but he goes as Trev Chirps on social media platforms.
00:46Jackson mentions his Instagram feed, which is 365,000 followers.
00:54Man.
00:54Trevor, on the River Island's guest line, joining us here on Willard and Dibs.
00:58How are you, man?
01:00I am so great.
01:01How about yourselves, boys?
01:02Well, we're doing real good, man.
01:04And we're excited to talk to you, because this is kind of interesting.
01:06How long has this been going on, and when did it sort of build into the thing that it currently is?
01:12Oh, dude, we've been doing this for three years.
01:16This is our third season, and it kind of blew up within our first year of doing it.
01:21We started posting in September 2023, and our first video that went viral was May 2024.
01:28When did you get your start as a heckler?
01:31Was there a moment as a kid when you realized that you had a gift for getting under people's skin?
01:35I mean, I've just always been loud, and this was just a way to turn that talent into profit and to content.
01:43And I've been doing this at baseball games for as long as I can remember, because I thought it was funny.
01:48Trev, where are you from?
01:50And what is your true sort of fandom with Bay Area sports?
01:54I am from Sacramento, California, the capital of this great state in which we live.
01:59And I've been a time fan since birthday.
02:02It's coming up, and I believe it's orange.
02:04Yeah.
02:04I love it.
02:06Do you, like, script out your first 10 heckles like an NFL team?
02:10You know, your first 15 plays?
02:12Are you off the cuff?
02:13What's your approach to the heckle?
02:16Not as far as who you're going after, but how you're going to go about doing it?
02:21Oh, yeah.
02:21We definitely script them.
02:22I actually have this list we've been building over the years, which started as a Google Doc,
02:29but it's now evolved into Google Sheets, and it's over 700 trips long, and that's just the negative ones.
02:35And then sometimes we'll, like, take suggestions from people in the crowd as we're there.
02:40They'll, like, give me insider information on players and talk to me about stuff.
02:43So we try to mix a bunch of stuff into other people involved as well.
02:48Trevor Gilmore.
02:49Where he goes is Trev Chirps on both Instagram and TikTok, where he's got very, very large followings.
02:55And we played a little bit of some of his best of over the last year a short time ago.
03:00Pretty damn creative.
03:02I wonder, Trev, you've probably got some stories, though, in terms of the way you get received by the people around you.
03:09How has that kind of gone through the years?
03:12Oh, dude.
03:13I mean, for the most part, we have overwhelming support.
03:17People love it, and they're all about it.
03:20Even when we first got started, we get some good laughs.
03:22But now that we've gotten bigger, like, people are coming out to these games to see us do this, which is really cool.
03:28We very rarely have negative press, as it were.
03:32You keep saying we and us.
03:34Exactly.
03:34Who are these other people, Trevor?
03:36That's me, my two buddies.
03:41My buddy, Jazz, is the one that films and edits everybody.
03:43Shout out, Jazz.
03:45And then our other buddy, Cody, who holds our 360 camera.
03:49That helps out in all of that stuff.
03:50So we're a team.
03:51We've been friends for 11 years.
03:53We met up in Tahoe, where I live now.
03:55And we started doing this all together because we saw that we were getting β I got them into baseball.
04:01And they β I took them to a game, and I started doing this because people were saying really bad things about the players.
04:07And I'm like, dude, there's a way more creative way to do this than talking about each other's moms and sisters, man.
04:13So I tried to come up with something funny, and we saw how well it was received by the crowd.
04:18And they were like, dude, people love this.
04:20We should put it on the internet and see if other people love it.
04:22And it turns out, yeah, it just goes.
04:24So when you go to heckle somebody, you stay away from the personal stuff, and you just keep it kind of benign like Mookie Betts and three-putts and stuff like that.
04:35Do you intentionally avoid players' personal stories?
04:40Yeah.
04:41I mean, the whole premise behind it is I'm describing a person nobody likes.
04:44So all of these jerks are pet peeves of things that have bothered me over the years.
04:49Also, like, it's tough to do personal stuff.
04:51Like, we did β it wasn't personal at the time.
04:54Like, I told β who did I tell?
04:56Scarlett Marte of the New York Mets at the time.
04:59I said, I bet your mom never put your artwork on the fridge.
05:02We posted that video.
05:05That's pretty good.
05:06I love it.
05:07I love it.
05:07Keep going.
05:08Well, we posted that video, and we got a slew of comments that were like, dude, he has a tragic story with his personal life.
05:16His mother and his sister and his wife all passed away tragically.
05:20So we took that down.
05:22So we had to do research in that aspect.
05:25But, yeah, I don't β it has nothing to do with the players.
05:28They're just props, and they happened to be standing in front of me at the time wearing the wrong jersey.
05:33Trevor, like, do players ever get in touch with you in your DMs?
05:39Yeah, dude, I've actually talked to Jackson Merrill about that shirt.
05:42Like, he's told me that story, and it's so funny that he brought it up to the Mookie Betts' podcast.
05:48And I'm like, I'm pretty sure I made, like, Riley Green delete his Instagram,
05:52because I had DMed him before about all the interactions, and I think he got overloaded.
05:58Is there any β
05:59I'm sorry, Trev's chirps here from Instagram right here on 95.7 The Game.
06:05Are there any white whales out there, any players that you are yet to chirp at
06:10that you're kind of getting in your crosshairs?
06:14Not really, man.
06:15If you're a left fielder and you play in the major leagues and not on the Giants, you're going to get it.
06:21Do you do the other side of the coin as well, Trev?
06:24Like, what do you say to the Giants when they're out there?
06:27Oh, yeah.
06:28And that's funny that you ask is we got to a point, but we're doing so many negative things,
06:33but we're not really cheering for our team.
06:35So we started doing new stud shirts.
06:37So I would say things like I bet you can carry all the groceries in on the first trip,
06:42or I bet you always notice when your friends get a haircut, said that one to Jock Peterson.
06:46We found studs.
06:48Are you the guy β hold on a second.
06:51I'm calling timeout.
06:53Because every time I went to a ball game when Jock Peterson was here in left field,
06:59I would watch him because I was like, dude, he was constantly turning around
07:04and interacting with people in the stands in left field.
07:08Was that you, Trevor?
07:10Could have been.
07:11I mean, we've had a lot of interactions with Jock.
07:13We love him, despite him being a previous doctor.
07:17But he's definitely given us some round of applause and some head nods.
07:20He's great.
07:21I'm just looking at your schedule, and you're in Reno tomorrow,
07:24and you're going to the Ballers, and you've got Aces games and Giants games.
07:29Are any of these paid appearances,
07:30and how do you monetize your chirps into being a business?
07:36So we are actually monetized on three different platforms,
07:40including TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook.
07:42We're a part of all the creative funds.
07:44So we do get paid based on views,
07:46and now we've started getting paid appearances with the Bay Area Panthers.
07:52Shout out to the Bay Area Panthers.
07:54They're an indoor football league out of San Jose.
07:58Awesome entertainment.
07:59If you ever have a chance to go, highly recommend getting out there.
08:02I love it.
08:03Trevor, what is, not to put you on the spot,
08:06what's your favorite one?
08:09Oh, dude, my favorite trip I ever did was to Ian Half,
08:12and it was when we first got started.
08:13And I said, I bet your parents changed the subject when people ask about you.
08:20It's so good.
08:22So have you ever heard?
08:24Because he's a professional baseball player.
08:25You're like, oh, we don't talk about him.
08:30I love it.
08:31So here's the other thing, though.
08:33Like you mentioned earlier to Dibs that these are,
08:35you sit down and you think about these.
08:38Have you guys reached a level, though,
08:40where you can almost do anything on demand,
08:43where if somebody's like, come on, you know,
08:45like are you at a party, and someone's like, come on, heckle me.
08:48What do you got, Trevor?
08:50Oh, yeah.
08:50I mean, people do that all the time,
08:53but I say I only heckle professionals.
08:57Oh, wow.
08:57That's nice.
08:57That's a heckle in and of itself.
08:59So by not heckling them, you, in fact, just heckled them.
09:02That's right.
09:04It's like Inception.
09:05It's very meta.
09:05Yeah, seriously.
09:07So where's this going from here, dude?
09:09How old are you?
09:11I am 33 years of age.
09:13All right.
09:14We have a lot of plans.
09:16I intend to maybe turn this into a state of comedy career.
09:20Like every straight white guy,
09:21I'm probably going to get a podcast at some point.
09:23So, yeah.
09:24And I really would love to do like a segment on ESPN at some point,
09:32like a stutter bum segment for any game of like who are the stoves and bums
09:36at this game, who's to look out for, who's been struggling.
09:39So we've got a lot of plans in place,
09:41and I just want to keep building off of this so it doesn't like,
09:44it's not like a one-hit wonder, you know.
09:46Yeah, and the idea about the bum, I'm just fascinated by that,
09:50kind of your tagline with every chirp.
09:52Are you looking at any, like, merchandise and logo stuff?
09:56Is that maybe the next level for you?
09:59We have logos.
10:01We have merch that people begged us to make, and then nobody bought it.
10:05So we kind of put the tie box on that.
10:08But, yeah, there's definitely stuff that works.
10:11Our logo is made by our, I buy Jeff's brother, shout out Flats Co.
10:16He does our, we have stickers, we have koozies, which I'm a big fan of.
10:20So if you guys want some of that, I can send some down.
10:22But, yeah, there's so much potential for this.
10:25It's hard to scale, you know.
10:27It's hard to make merch.
10:28It's hard to get designs in place.
10:29It's hard to make a website and an online store.
10:32And I'm just a guy, not a very smart one,
10:34so I don't know how to do any of this.
10:37Trev, well, you obviously, you're working out here on some level.
10:40Trev Chirps, Trevor Gilmore, is joining us here on Withered and Dibs.
10:45You said you live in Tahoe.
10:46Do you do golf?
10:47Are you going to this celebrity tournament and screaming at people?
10:51Dude, you know what's funny is I've DMed them,
10:53and whoever runs their Instagram account is a geriatric and doesn't understand.
10:58Wow.
11:00Yeah, how social media works.
11:02I can't reach anybody.
11:04It's very difficult.
11:05Well, I mean.
11:06But I do intend to get down there.
11:07Yeah, you could just buy a ticket and yell.
11:09I don't think there's a rule against that.
11:12Nope, 50 bucks.
11:13And, I mean, it's an amateur tournament.
11:14I'm sure there's not a lot of hard rules here.
11:17No, we've been there.
11:18You'll be fine.
11:19Just don't do it in their backswing, right?
11:21They'll get ticked off.
11:22But, I mean, if a Kelsey brother is walking down the fairway and you scream at him,
11:28I'm pretty sure that'll go well for you.
11:31100%.
11:31Yeah.
11:32I mean, like, if it's not what that one dude was saying to Jason Kelsey,
11:37then they don't break his mom.
11:38Yeah, no, no, no.
11:38Don't do that.
11:40There is that.
11:41Hey, so what's your take on what Jackson Merrill and Mookie Betts ended up talking about,
11:46which is that Giants fans are mean.
11:48What do you think of that?
11:50I mean, if you're wearing a Dodger jersey, yeah, we're absolutely mean.
11:54I boo Dodger fans when I'm just walking around town.
11:57You got the wrong hat on, you're going to get booed, dude.
12:00I think it's all in good fun.
12:03It's all a part of sports.
12:05And that's like the sake of competition.
12:07If you're not heckling the other team, you don't care.
12:09How many other hecklers are out there in your heckling brotherhood
12:15and your community of outfield hecklers?
12:18I mean, more now, not to toot my own horn here.
12:22But there's also these other guys called Country Club Adjacent.
12:25If you haven't heard of them, check that out.
12:27They do the back-off challenge for golf.
12:30So they'll chirp you while you're on the tee box trying to get you to step away.
12:34And we actually did a collaboration with them in Dodger Stadium in L.A. last year.
12:37Wow, this is crazy.
12:40All right, so, hey, before you go, Trev,
12:42when you end up out there at Edgewood in Tahoe in a couple of weeks,
12:46will you have anything for Steph if he walks by?
12:50I can give him a couple of used chirps.
12:52All right.
12:53I mean, like, what would you say?
12:56I heard he's got an incredible kicks collection, man.
12:58Hey, man, really fun to talk to you, man.
13:06Best of luck.
13:07And I hope that we can do this again or run into you out at an event or something.
13:12Yeah, absolutely.
13:13Thanks so much for having me on.
13:14I'll be on any time you want.
13:15I'm pretty easy.
13:16Okay.
13:17Nice.
13:17Beautiful.
13:17We'll give you a call.
13:19How about before the Dodgers come to town, we could probably swap some ideas.
13:24Yeah, I would love that.
13:25All right.
13:26Okay, man.
13:26Hey, thanks for coming on.
13:28Thanks for having me.
13:29We'll talk to you guys soon.
13:30All right.
13:30Absolutely.
13:31That's Trevor Gilmore, everybody.
13:33He goes by Trev Chirps.
13:35Yeah.
13:35On mainly TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
13:40500K on TikTok.
13:41Yeah.
13:42And 365 on the gram.
13:44And I'm just happy we got off without getting heckled.
