00:04i've been in detroit man i grew i grew up in detroit i love it i love it you're the pride

00:09of gross point south high school baby yeah no i love talking to everybody in detroit man

00:15brings me back to my uh my home roots that's for sure so i knew i was talking to you today so i'm

00:20wearing my mark fidrich uh tiger shirt for you the bird i love it i got you loved it i got you

00:26word what size shirt you want i got you how about 2x i would love to have it i i had a bird i had a

00:34mark the bird fidrich shirt when i was a kid it was awesome this is the one from the detroit news i got

00:39it printed the bird is the word oh i remember that yeah you had those press-ons on the back for the

00:44back of the newspaper i had that exact that's awesome yeah can you in a million years think

00:51about the evolution of circus sports and what you've become not only in vegas but worldwide derek it is

00:56it's cool to see from here in detroit but on a larger scale the evolution of this brand is crazy

01:02we uh we've had a lot of fun we've had a lot of good fortune good timing uh you know i i uh i grew

01:10up in detroit and uh i uh i spent spent a few years getting my master's at wayne state at night and

01:16i always thought about i mean i'm a big sports fan tiger fan lion fan all that and i always thought boy

01:23if sports betting could become legal it's just going to explode because it just enhances the

01:28game so much and uh you know when we got into this business in 2019 um we uh we kind of got lucky

01:35because uh sports betting became legal throughout the country and uh and it really kind of helped

01:40catapult uh catapult our vision of what we were what we were doing in las vegas to now multiple other

01:45states we're live and live and legal in five states and we hope to be uh live and legal in a few

01:52other states including michigan hopefully in the next uh next year and a half or so

01:56but you don't have to work the floor and do what you do i mean as a manager and what you've done the

02:01level you've you've already got to yet i see you time and time again and it's not just window dressing

02:07you are boots on the ground you got your hands in the middle of it is that just the way you were

02:12brought up where does that come from yeah i mean i love uh i love working i love growing companies so

02:17uh uh that that's kind of what brought me to vegas i uh i really didn't come to vegas to buy one little

02:22casino i did something that came out to vegas to really try to grow a business and develop a team

02:27and and uh you know based upon on what i thought were some very good you know overall business uh

02:34business ideas and concepts so kind of go from there and uh and and the the good fortune is i love

02:39sports so now i get now i get these massive tvs i get to watch 30 different games a night so it's uh

02:45well it works out pretty great circa grandissimo did i say it right yes you did okay now these i

02:52love these it's so much fun to watch now circus sports.com for information but walk me through

02:57this with some of these high rollers what this is going to entail yeah so let me start off with

03:02circa million circa millions are original handicapping uh football handicapping contest where you pick

03:08five games against the point spread each weekend and it costs a thousand dollars to enter you have to

03:14enter in vegas but you can play from anywhere because a proxy could put your picks in for you

03:19so it's it's it's a fully legal contest which is a big benefit and um when when you take a look at

03:26the payouts the top 100 people get paid out uh plus there's also quarterly prizes for the circa

03:32million circa million also has a pretty big detroit connection because a group uh a group of brothers

03:37and friends uh won it won the whole overall the million dollar prize uh uh two seasons ago so it's

03:44so that was pretty cool to have such a such a big michigan uh connection uh in circa million

03:49circus survivor that's another story that's that's um a survivor contest where you only pick one game

03:56each week um no point spread nothing like that so it's simple to start with but it gets a little more

04:02difficult as time goes by because you can only pick a team once during the the course of a season

04:07so if you're looking at taking the lions on a particular game you got to make sure you you utilize

04:13them in the right spot because if you use them too early then you might not have them when you need

04:17them a little bit further down the road this this year we're going to set an all-time record

04:21of a 15 million dollar payout minimum so last year we guaranteed 10 million and we went over

04:28this year we're guaranteeing 15 million so this will be the largest legal football contest

04:32in history so we're pretty excited about about pushing circus survivor uh this year and then um

04:39and then we we knew that there was some demand for a high-end contest and um it's a high-end contest

04:46it'll have a limited number of participants um it's a hundred thousand dollars to enter it's just like

04:52circus survivor but it's called circuit grandissimo hundred thousand dollars to enter guaranteed payout

04:57of a million five so we're we're hoping we get at least 15 15 uh entries into circuit grandissimo

05:04these are all the guarantees so hopefully every one of the contests goes over the guarantee uh that

05:10would make me happy because then i'm not on the hook to cover the difference um because all the all

05:15the extra money that goes in these contests all goes back into the pool uh circuit does not take

05:20out a commission a rake or anything like that uh so so it's pretty pretty great to see how these

05:25football contests have just really kind of exploded throughout the country is it interesting

05:29derek that like the lions now are darlings to so many people i i equate them to the chicago cubs

05:35of the nfl that everyone wants them to win because they know the past but on a gambling perspective

05:41they're not sneaking up on anybody anymore with the lions stuff people know who they are and what

05:46they're about yeah you're absolutely right lions are a little bit different i think it goes back to

05:51a few years ago when the lions were uh you know a little bit of a little bit of a hard knocks type

05:56of thing they became a darling and uh they had a couple of really really impressive seasons um and i

06:01definitely think the lions became america's team fun team to watch what a great coach to watch um you

06:08know superstars it it's it's been terrific i can tell you at in in in las vegas and where i'm at right

06:15now and like our sports book the world's largest sports book and at stadium swim or outdoor um aqua

06:21theater when the lions play on a sunday night or a thursday night or monday night football i mean it

06:27is pat there's more honolulu blue out here than you would ever believe that we're effectively become

06:32uh lions western like you know the home for the lions of the desert that that's for sure lions have

06:38become america's team in a lot of ways and uh and i think i think that's been great they came close uh

06:43close to getting to the super bowl uh you know when they were in the nfc championship game against

06:48the 49ers close but didn't make it um this year maybe this is the year the tough thing is this is

06:54a brutal schedule the lions got to face this year but if they get through they get through the regular

06:59season to make the playoffs no one's going to want to see the lions in the playoffs so this could be

07:03the year i'm with you i i think it builds character i think dan campbell knows exactly what he's

07:07doing this schedule is going to toughen them up make them battle ready when they get into the

07:10playoffs they're just going to hang them on people because they'll be ready to go

07:13um the vibe in vegas too i have to ask you and i've talked about this before and i got to get

07:19my ass out there for the for the grand prix um it's it's on me it's my fault derek that i haven't

07:24gotten come out for the for vegas yet for f1 but with the movie and now with the way the track has

07:30become i'm sure you're aware of this i'm a huge f1 guy that track is beloved worldwide within two

07:37years people go this is one of the best tracks in the world what's the vibe there for f1

07:42well i mean we're we're excited about getting to year three you know first year was kind of tough

07:47because because uh of all the disruption around town and having to you know redo a lot of the roads

07:54so i would say initially it was kind of tough in vegas last year things were a lot better uh and i think

08:00going into year three i mean i think everyone everyone in vegas uh really has come to love this

08:06event um there's so much going on we we've got uh we've got a neon city music festival goes on the

08:11same weekend you got f1 you got people coming in from all over the world so it's another great

08:16vegas weekend that's for sure circus sports.com uh the website i encourage everyone to check it out

09:09you it's such an amazing time though but i'm focusing back on circa there's never been a

09:13better time to be a sports fan and what you guys do again worldwide not just for detroit but sports

09:19has never been bigger and more important and just a great escape and so much fun um there's a real

09:24chance that all four of our teams in the motor city could be in the playoffs yeah

09:28i mean i you think about i i think about what's what's happening here the rest of this year

09:32um you know whenever there's a michigan game or michigan state game uh our place lights up and then

09:38and then you think about now after after the drought detroit sports have had tigers boy this

09:43is going to be a fun fall that's for sure lions fun fall red wings look like this next year might

09:48become the year where they where they jump back into it and boy the pistons just lit people up this

09:53year so this is a great time to be a detroit sports fan uh and for me it's a great time to

09:58be a detroit sports fan in my own place in las vegas when you put the odds up for the nba mvp for

10:04next year i'm i'm betting on kade i'm telling you right now i'm gonna get it a hundred percent i'm i'm

10:09i'm down i know everyone's going to be with sga but i'm telling you it's cage year it's a perfect

10:14story when when the pistons make it all the way to the finals yeah i saw you put that out there i i don't
