00:00growing up with a studio and stuff i mean your dad must have taught you tons of tricks right
00:04he would be the one to tell you he was a really bad teacher so i think i just think just being
00:09around it and being the environment maybe i'm just more interested in it i think just being
00:13you know by osmosis so to speak rock metal frog and everything in between welcome to this episode

00:37in detroit it's like like detroit michigan it's like a big huge storm just blew through it's been
00:43hot as balls here yeah it's it's getting it's getting hot coming into summer now do you you
00:49does your uncle live here or something like up in northern michigan or something uh yes i have an
00:53uncle that lives uh my uncle david lives lives up there yeah yeah i was just thinking about that
00:58so maybe you'll be able to see him because i think you're playing here twice this year yeah i'm looking
01:02forward to it man yeah coming up at soaring eagle you're playing with uh creed august 23rd then
01:07november uh 19th at the uh fillmore in downtown detroit so uh how'd the uh how'd the last creed tour
01:13go for you oh it was wonderful man they're they're great dudes and uh the crowds were were
01:19wonderful it was it was a really good time i'm excited for this uh round two yeah i talked to
01:24scott staff last week and my wife comes up with funny questions not on purpose but she says ask him
01:29how his chickens are doing which i would have never thought of so i don't know if you ever talked
01:35to scott staff about his chickens i don't talk to scott staff about his chickens i'll ask him next
01:40time he says he's in an hoa now so they can't have any so ah damn okay then i won't that must be a
01:45sore subject do you have any you have any animals at your house i do not i am uh i i live vicariously
01:52through my mother who has five cats uh i'm allergic but i still love cats so i just like
01:56take a zyrtec and power through it oh okay i don't know that yeah yeah i have some friends of mine
02:02they're allergic and of course whenever you're allergic to cats the cats at your neighbor's house
02:05they always come to you first yeah they're drawn to you they know they can tell is that true
02:10i don't know probably yeah my friends are it's it's the funniest thing they'll come over and lay
02:17on my friend's lap i'm like these cats will never lay on my lap but uh anyway so yeah lots happening
02:23with your in your world of course uh the end dropped uh the video dropped a couple months back
02:28are you a horror movie fan yeah yeah being able to work with uh not only robert rodriguez but the
02:36uh the fx legend greg nicotero who you know from walking dead and everything he's done it's been uh
02:43it was a you know it was crazy thing to be a part of no it's really cool so what are your what are some
02:49of your favorite horror movies oh man i i really i really enjoyed uh that the the it reboot i thought
02:59that that first one was was a really really good one and that's that's just like recent memory
03:04um what else was there uh the substance that just came out last year was really or was it was it this
03:10year or last year i can't remember that was yeah i haven't seen that one yet i don't know why i just
03:14it's just i haven't been able to watch it yeah it's it's it's crazy but uh but yeah no being able to
03:21work with uh with robert uh man it's super crazy yeah now that that you know people are saying like
03:28this dust till dawn type vibe have you seen that movie sinners yet no i heard that's amazing and i have
03:34i have i when i'm home i like don't leave the house so maybe i'll see it on the road
03:39come on man you got enough connections you can just have somebody just ship it to your house
03:43yeah that's a great movie so it has some uh dust to dust till dawn in there as well like with the
03:50are you into the zombie stuff or the vampire stuff or anything like that i mean i'm cool with them i
03:56mean they showed up in the video so sure yeah speaking of zombies i just watched 28 years later i
04:02don't know if you have any plans to watch that no that that's the one that's about to come out right
04:05or right now it just came out yeah oh it just came out yeah i haven't the only one i saw the
04:10the very first one the days so they they skipped months right so it was days weeks and now it's years
04:16i believe i guess they missed the months window for that well there's there's more to come uh
04:22spoiler alert i won't i won't tell you too much about that but uh okay what 28 decades later next is
04:27that is that what's going on might be i don't know so uh when do you hit when you when do you
04:32leave and go back out on tour uh we are out uh i think not the ninth is the first day first show
04:40of the of the creed tour uh so i think we leave like the fifth or sixth because we got some rehearsals
04:45prior to that so yeah and so what are you doing in the downtime right now you working on uh on three
04:51i'm uh i've been working on some stuff uh that uh you'll probably everybody will probably hear about
04:59uh pretty soon but uh really this has been kind of uh my little summer break before summer you know
05:05i haven't really had much time off lately so the past month has been nice to kind of collect myself
05:10before we go out for another couple months yeah you say working on some stuff that you'll find out
05:14about soon with other people or just your own stuff mammoth related stuff yeah yeah and as far as
05:20three is concerned uh will it be all you again or will you are you bringing in other other i def when
05:27it comes to the studio i definitely have uh too much fun playing everything on on my own so that's
05:31definitely the process all right so yeah that that's that's interesting because like you you're really
05:37you're really a hands-on guy aren't you sure i mean you don't want to have anyone else's input or
05:45anything like that i mean the the elvis my producer is kind of that other half when it comes
05:52to you know me doubting myself or if i'm you know going down the right path or not and uh he's
05:58definitely that that other half uh in the studio that kind of helps make sure it lands where it's
06:03supposed to yeah yeah i've interviewed a bunch of bands and like their producer might be the fourth
06:08or the fifth member of the band or something like that so i guess it's just you two guys
06:11yeah pretty much and growing up with his studio and stuff i mean your dad must have taught you
06:16tons of tricks right no no tricks no he was he would be the one to tell you he was a really bad
06:24teacher so i think i just think just being around it and being the environment maybe i'm just more
06:29uh interested in it i think just being you know by osmosis so to speak i would use all the words right
06:36out of my mouth there's a couple radio guys i worked with in the past and not even talking to them
06:40about radio just through osmosis and listening to them it's like kind of you kind of soak it in
06:45right yeah absolutely yeah so any time frame for that or just i uh i would say uh within if you
06:54focus on the the mammoth uh socials the next couple weeks you'll i think if you're excited to hear
07:00something you'll you'll be pleasantly surprised okay fair enough i know every everyone i talked to
07:06like we can't tell you when it comes out we can't tell you what it's called so sometimes i'm like i
07:09don't know i'm trying to pry but i'm trying to be respectful as well so sorry about that
07:14don't worry about it yeah but uh anyway so what else is happening in your world man
07:19nothing just getting ready for for the tour very excited to just uh to turn the machine back on and
07:25and uh and get going yeah uh you really like touring the country huh yeah i mean being able to to connect
07:32with the crowds and being able to you know uh just to play it i mean it's the whole it's the whole other
07:39half of of of of what we do you know it's fun to to be in the studio and create but being able to share
07:45that with with the crowd who's who's stoked to to hear some music is is the best how often do you think
07:52about uh playing these songs live when you're recording them you know the the very first mammoth album
07:58it was more about trying to figure out what the project was but by the time you know we toured
08:02for two years now that that that's always in the back of my mind when i'm doing a song where it's
08:07like oh this will probably be cool live you know so yeah that's definitely part of the process going
08:12like oh this would be a cool thing live or i think this would kill sort of thing yeah and uh and if
08:18there's something that you're not thinking that do you kind of rearrange it or readjust it or no you
08:22just kind of go with it no i think uh i don't know i think it's it's important to sort of challenge
08:29yourself and uh so i think maybe i mean some things don't really work as well live as they would in in
08:36the studio but you don't really know that until you try it so are you going over to this uh this
08:42back to the beginning show with ozzy i unfortunately had to back out because the tour the creed tour starts
08:48like the day after and i'll be able to pull it off you know uh unfortunately i'm i'm very excited to see
08:56uh to to watch it you know but uh i unfortunately had to back out yeah because i think uh last time
09:02when you were here in november you had just played or just recently played that ozzy gig
09:06yeah yeah for the for the rock hall thing that was the crazy thing oh yeah yeah crazy training
09:13the crazy thing no doubt yeah i mean you know we were talking about that before but yeah
09:18john five said something to me just a couple months ago and i guess until you hear it it's
09:22pretty obvious but he talked about the difference between iomi and randy rhodes which is like night
09:27and day but i never thought about it ozzy was in sabbath then he starts to do band with a
09:30completely different guitar player it's kind of wild yeah i mean that's just uh how things go i guess
09:36you know i think uh they both guitar players have you know have their own thing that makes them
09:41special for sure all right i'll tell you i'll put you on the spot here i wasn't even thinking about
09:45this but what who's your favorite guitar player to play with ozzy i mean uh i i'm really bad at
09:54picking you know because because that that almost implies you don't like another one in comparison
09:59and i i feel like you know on randy was amazing and i feel like but you can't not give cred to to
10:06tony being the legend and groundbreaking genre creator he was and you know so i love him i hate you know
10:15that's the that's not the answer you want to hear but i you know i know listen i know you're in this
10:19situation where you're damned if you do damned if you don't right always yeah uh sammy hagar i was
10:25talking to him a couple weeks ago and he gave you nothing but mad props and says you had to put a lot
10:29of you know he had to put out put up with a lot on the internet and he says he's uh he told me he's
10:33proud of you and and in his words he said let that boy boogie that was his uh his term to me
10:38i will boogie well listen wolfgang we'll see you here coming up at soaring eagle on august 23rd and
10:44then of course on november 9th with uh miles kennedy man i love miles kennedy great guitar player
10:50and uh it's it's hard to find somebody that sings as effortlessly as he does he is a beast man i don't
10:58think people realize how amazing of a guitar player he is i he's obviously the incredible singer he is but
11:03he's just as if not better on guitar it's he's unbelievable it's unfair yeah it's kind of wild
11:10the connections you have of course like you said you're going on the creed and then you know those
11:13guys have altar bridge and then you're playing with miles and stuff and one one big happy family
11:18i guess yeah and i don't know if you know about this but altar bridge is actually named after a
11:22bridge that was here in detroit yeah in detroit mark always told me that yeah that's why they
11:26that's all that's why the way you say it too normally fans of the band always call it altar bridge
11:32but you said altar bridge oh it is a bridge i've never even thought about that before yeah maybe
11:39maybe it's a midwest thing or yeah it's altar bridge not altar bridge yeah right exactly yeah
11:45because i know like uh like what's his name the people from chicago will say like westland and while
11:49we say westland it's land yeah exactly so well wolfgang thank you so much for your time man
11:55continued success and we'll see you here in michigan thank you very much man looking forward to it
11:59thanks bro take care
12:02thank you
