00:13E o start have actually been a weakness for Deegan this year,
00:19ele já tinha 3 at this point last year,
00:21então, vamos ver o kind of launch he gets,
00:23indo um pouco mais fora.
00:25Eu não diria que isso é um weakness,
00:27eu diria que ele não é tão focada.
00:29Não tem.
00:30Vamos ver.
00:31Vamos ver.
00:31O res é up.
00:32Gates down.
00:36Ele certamente tem a launch this time.
00:40Deegan has that first hole shot of the year.
00:59E assim, vamos ver o primeiro a few lapses.
01:09Mas, bom pra ver ele aqui.
01:11E aí, Tom Biao e Mikko Norup.
01:13E aí, excuse me.
01:14E aí, ele tá aí.
01:15E aí, alguém tuc-se na frente e foi lá atrás.
01:18E aí, ele tá aí.
01:21E aí, ele tá aí.
01:51I swear he's not listening to the show as it goes,
01:53but he's already pulling away.
01:55He's got Moseman second, and here's Vial third.
01:57No, he's got the teleport right there.
02:00Jason said, I'm struggling.
02:02I'll do him.
02:03He wasn't even close, so you know, good.
02:05But I think that really comes down to a lot with the track
02:07and Hayden being his third time here.
02:09He knows the vision's a big thing,
02:11so I wonder if it make life easier on yourself
02:13by getting out front.
02:16I mean, Jen Lawrence wasn't much different
02:17in that 450 moto.
02:18He always gets starts,
03:38de volta do Thunder Valley
03:40que ele foi um estomac para duas semanas.
03:42Ele disse que ele estava tão depletado.
03:44Ele disse que ele fez um enduringense
03:46conhausas.
03:50Eleziste um pneu para todos?
03:52Ele conseguiu acordar ela.
03:54Ele disse que ele tomou toda aerapia
03:56de peligro de beim the Eleособicin.
03:58Ele disse que tomou wake,
04:00o sempreico em no volta,
04:02o 아니고 ele disse que ele saibá
04:04印 de cazadoras.
04:05Ele disse que tomouации você
ью.
07:01a 10-second lead, and we're not even
07:0310 minutes into this race, so
07:05it's not that he's winning. He's been winning
07:07all year. It's the way he's going about
07:10the winning, and we're coming up
07:11halfway through the season. I just see
07:13him grabbing another gear, and he's finding
07:15the maturity that I think he really needed
07:17before he takes that step to a 450.
07:20JT, it's talent, it's
07:21maturity, but it's also a lot
07:23of hard work from him and the
07:25whole team there, because they didn't just rest
07:27on the achievements that they made, those
07:29gains that they made in the sand
07:31last year. They were in North Carolina
07:33this past week going back to work. They pulled
07:35out the notebook, and
07:37went over everything that they told
07:39hey, to make sure in these turns you do that
07:41body position-wise, handling all
07:43the potential mistakes that we're seeing
07:45out here on the track, so they didn't
07:47stop there. It was a reminder, this whole week
07:49was a reminder of what to do so
07:51you could go out on a day like today and
07:53execute. Yeah, and that's
07:55a good point, having a team like
07:57Star Racing Yamaha keeping them focused, because
07:59you know, I almost would put
08:01money on that. Hayden was sitting on the gate
08:03after watching Jet Lawrence win,
08:05and just the motivation and the sound
08:07bike we have from him in the beginning part,
08:09him knowing and where his
08:11ultimate goal is to eventually get to that
08:13450 class in the race against Jet Lawrence. I bet
08:15he was sitting on the gate saying, you know what, if you
08:17can do that, I'm going to do it better,
08:19and it's easy for a young
08:21kid to start overriding
08:23the motorcycle and doing things out of characteristic
08:25and how you got here, and that's why I
08:27do believe a team like Star Racing
08:30who has the championships and the pedigree
08:31to be like, hey, Hayden, we know you want to go
08:33out there and do this, but we got to still go
08:35through the motions. We got to practice. We have
08:37to ride the sand tracks because we know you
08:39can win, but if you don't execute and do
08:41the things that got you here, you will get
08:43beat, and you will end up being in a
08:45position, so it's a deadly
08:47combination to deal with, and you're
08:49watching something spectacular,
08:51just like we were watching with Jet Lawrence. His kids got it
08:53at all, for sure. Now the bottom box below
08:56Deegan there, Villal in orange
08:57has made his way back up.
09:00He's got Nate Thrasher right ahead of him
09:01in eighth, he is ninth, and
09:03then Time Masterpool is tenth. Shout out
09:05to Parker Ross running well
09:07on the Bar X Toyota Redlands
09:09Yamaha. They only get a limited amount of help
09:11from Yamaha riding well in
09:13eleventh, and
09:16Villal starting to close
09:18on Thrasher, and then Voland is up
09:19ahead in seventh. You know, and sometimes
09:22with, in a position like, you know, Tom
09:24Villal, like, don't, don't mistake him. We
09:26talk about Hayden Deegan, but Tom Villal,
09:28it's looked pretty aggressive all day today,
09:30and he's obviously gotten up, and he's
09:32motivated to move forward, which he might be able to
09:34make his way, but sometimes when you go down,
09:36it might be a better
09:37space to be at as he makes the pass
09:40right here. It might be a better space
09:41because for him, he wants to get better
09:44and get the opening laps, and the last thing he wants
09:46to see is him be in second place and watch
09:48Hayden Deegan pull away from him, so
09:49it might be in a sense that he goes down
09:52and now he's making his way up, getting
09:54better, finding that flow, and
09:56since he went down, he doesn't have to worry
09:58about Hayden Deegan. He can just get that confidence
09:59instead of maybe watching Hayden Deegan run away
10:02from him, JT.
10:04There's no doubt about it. He's
10:05riding really well here. The one thing I want to
10:07see from these guys, whether it's Tom Villal,
10:09whether it's Levi Kitchen, is I want to
10:11see them be able to overcome the adversity
10:14that we've seen Deegan
10:15be able to do, of course, in 2024.
10:18Now, for Villal, this is the perfect opportunity.
10:20You go down, a small crash, but
10:22you have the pace. Now, can you
10:24get back to a podium position,
10:26which is where you belong on this racetrack?
10:28Because that's what Hayden Deegan would be doing
10:30out front. That's when I want to see them
10:32be able to turn the corner and be that
10:34guy that can fight for a championship, because on your
10:35bad days, you still need to be near the podium.
10:38That's how championships get done.
10:40It's certainly going to be a test
10:42for Villal to get back to that podium
10:44type spot after that early crash.
10:46Voland in his sights, and this is it.
10:49Kitchen has closed the gap
10:50on Mozevin for the number two spot.
10:53Yeah, Levi's been riding good the last few weekends,
10:55and so has Michael.
10:56So, you know, you're about 10 minutes in this race,
10:59and it's going to be a long moto for these guys,
11:01and that back and forth that you're going to see,
11:04that cat and mouse, it's going to be a lot of that today,
11:06and like I mentioned earlier, it really just comes down to,
11:08in some of these one-line sections,
11:10is that these guys got to back off
11:12and give the guy in front of him a room.
11:14Otherwise, you're just going to run into vision issues,
11:16and then again, all the sand and all that.
11:17So, Levi will close in on him,
11:20and then Michael will stretch it out,
11:21but still a good ride by both these guys.
11:23They've been riding really good.
11:24This might be an opportunity for Levi
11:26to try to get around Michael,
11:28if he can close the gap.
11:32Oh, this is going to be good.
11:34Let's see how this outside,
11:36yeah, that outside is just not formed up yet.
11:42She goes back to work.
11:47Ah, fun to hear the bikes labor through the sand.
11:59And they're going to wind it back out
12:00past the mechanics area.
12:05There's the motivation for most of it.
12:07Keep going.
12:09Yeah, I feel like with this racetrack,
12:11you know, there's only certain parts
12:13where you're like, you're white knuckling in here,
12:15where you're like, I'm scared.
12:16And that's one of the sections
12:17when you go past that mechanics area,
12:19it's a high speed, really.
12:21The bike's moving around, it's sliding,
12:22and it's like, man, I'm just happy to get through it.
12:25The rest of this racetrack really just comes out
12:27in the mental and physical,
12:28like these rollers going up this hill,
12:30it is so much energy to continue doing that
12:32over a 230-minute moto.
12:34So, again, it's two different challenges.
12:37There's not too many scary parts of this racetrack,
12:39but there's a lot of physical parts
12:41that eventually just wears you down.
12:43And the reason is because all the corners
12:45have bumps in them,
12:46and so it makes it difficult for all these riders.
12:49Most men has not had a moto podium, James,
12:51since 2022.
12:53And that was at Hangtown very early in that season,
12:56so over three years.
12:57He's not had an overall podium since 2021.
13:00We've talked about his comeback quite a bit.
13:03Broke his neck, multiple concussions,
13:05thought his career was over,
13:06found the right people that said,
13:08you know what, you're not at any more risk
13:09than you were before with the neck.
13:12So he decided to go back out there.
13:13He just wanted a shot at it to do it differently
13:15and see how it would turn out.
13:16It's been very good,
13:18but is it good enough to hold off Kitchin?
13:21Oh, a nice line by Levi.
13:22And the reason I like that line
13:23because it opens up this next corner,
13:26and now he's going to funnel.
13:27Michael goes outside.
13:28Levi will be back on the inside.
13:30So, side assist.
13:32It's another spot.
13:33Maybe Levi, if he can get this corner right,
13:35and he should be next to Michael.
13:37Michael squares him up, but...
13:39You can see the address.
13:40He was an Evel Knievel-style launch in that single,
13:43trying to stay close, but it wasn't enough.
13:45Yeah, he just knows there's only a few opportunities.
13:47He's going to try to do this slingshot move around,
13:49but he knows his outside berm isn't, you know, built yet
13:53as he tries to cut back in,
13:54so he's got to go back to work again.
13:56So, in previous years,
13:57that would have been enough of a berm there
13:58to make that move?
14:00Well, I mean, as the day goes on,
14:01that outside will come up.
14:03It's just earlier in the day
14:04that it hasn't, you know, progressed yet.
14:06So, yeah, the lines that they're running right now,
14:09it'll change,
14:10and they'll start getting some of these outside lines
14:11where the lighter part of the track
14:13where they're not going,
14:14that'll get darker as the day goes on.
14:16But for sure, Levi just remembered last lap,
14:19it wasn't there yet, so...
14:22And still not able to make it work.
14:23Harrop still running fourth.
14:25Great ride for him,
14:26and now his triumph teammate Swole is up to fifth,
14:29so two triumphs in the top five.
14:31You see Mozevin hit that hole
14:32at the bottom of that jump.
14:34Yeah, eventually,
14:35they'll get these big old holes
14:37and how they're jumping into,
14:38like, what Michael just did right there.
14:40They'll be able to do that.
14:41Oh, Kitchen!
14:43Now, let's see if Levi's going to try to square him up
14:45and get back down to inside of him here.
14:51Still not enough.
14:53No, but this is another spot right here.
14:56Levi can maybe get this corner good
14:58as he does it.
15:00No, it was all out of sorts.
15:02You mentioned energy going up that hill.
15:04But your Kitchen used a whole bunch right there.
15:05Yeah, no, he used a lot.
15:07I mean, now he'd probably sit back,
15:10and you see that now he's trying to rest.
15:11He's sitting on his seat,
15:12and that's all that energy that he was using,
15:14especially on these 250 bikes.
15:16You know, he buries it in his corners.
15:17He's got to try to stay with Michael,
15:19so, man, this track will wear you out.
15:21So you'll literally see him hammer a section,
15:23and then you see a little bit of resting.
15:25Yeah, absolutely.
15:26When you see a guy, especially on these sand tracks,
15:29if you just pay attention,
15:29when you see a guy get close to him,
15:31that means they're going after the pass.
15:33It's not like they're getting close to him
15:34just to wait for him a few corners down the road.
15:37No, they're trying to make that pass instantly.
15:38Otherwise, they're going to drop back
15:40because that ruse, it wears you out.
15:42And again, with Levi,
15:44he just knows there's certain parts of this racetrack
15:46that I've got to be close to him to be able to make a pass,
15:48and now he'll probably go down the same lines that Michael does
15:51and then just funnel back in until he gets a lot closer to him.
15:54and get a little straight back in the legs for another attack.
15:58Got Harrop, Swole, Marchbank 6, VL 7.
16:02He's gone around Bolin.
16:04This track is getting rough.
16:07Moseman just able to hang on,
16:08and then the entrance to the corner almost throws it down.
16:10Yeah, that's because he was losing the front end, like you said,
16:13but now he knew that Burma eventually catch him,
16:15so, you know, just got to keep that up.
16:17Just slid into it.
16:18Oh, he just slid in.
16:19I mean, he didn't have no choice,
16:20so it wasn't like he was...
16:21The bike's saying, this is what's going to happen.
16:24Either you accept it, or you don't.
16:27This is great stuff, looking at these two on the edge
16:30as this track starting to show some teeth.
16:35450 Moto 2 going to be even worse than this?
16:37Yeah, I mean, and the 250 Moto's going to be even worse than this.
16:40Yeah, that's the hard part.
16:42Every lap you come by, you're just like,
16:43man, we're only in the first Moto.
16:45Like, I've got to deal with this,
16:46so that's why I say you've got to survive the day out here.
16:49Yeah, that's the key to the Moto, definitely is right now.
16:52This is Joe Shimoda.
16:53This is just to get into the points.
16:55He's 20th.
16:57Ryder's second in the standings,
16:58getting it around, battling with.
17:01Julian Bomair, 24th early in this one.
17:05Not sure what happened to Joe.
17:06Maybe a problem at the start.
17:08Oh, it was first turn crash.
17:09A lot of work to do, JT.
17:12Well, Joe Shimoda is certainly coming from the back,
17:14but he was caught up in a pileup with the likes of Ryder DeFrancisco
17:17and a few others, like we saw in that first Moto.
17:20This first corner, they come in there with a lot of speed,
17:22but it gets really deep, really fast.
17:24Everybody has those hole shot devices still compressed.
17:26It's a really tricky first corner here,
17:28and it wouldn't really seem that way on the surface.
17:30We've already seen two crashes through two starts.
17:33And then apparently Shimoda went down again
17:36after the first turn crash,
17:37and that's another reason why he is this far back.
17:4119th, 18th now.
17:44And got a long way to go.
17:47He's also got the jersey,
17:51or is that a tear-off dangling in the side?
17:53Yeah, it looks like the jersey,
17:54so that means he might have got ran over at that point.
17:57Will?
17:59Okay, so we'll go back to Bomair.
18:01These are great riders who are battling just inside the top 20,
18:04and there's still half the race left.
18:05A reminder that Monster Energy is available now.
18:09As we get halfway through this moto,
18:11let's send it back down to Will.
18:13And what a shame that Julian Vermeer got caught up,
18:15the way JT was saying at the beginning there,
18:17because he was looking really good in qualifying.
18:20Seventh in the first,
18:21I believe third in the second qualifying session.
18:24And that was what surprised him.
18:26That's what surprised the whole team.
18:28They basically took him to ride in the sand this week.
18:31Carlos Rivera, the crew chief, said,
18:33we know we're going to have to put him in the sand.
18:34He's from Lake Havasu, he's from California,
18:36he's used to a hard base, let's see how he goes.
18:39And both Juju and Carlos, when they showed up,
18:43they went, oh no.
18:44They shook their heads, they said, what are we going to do?
18:46And I said, he's had no experience in the sand,
18:48and Carlos said, put it like this,
18:50the most experience that Juju's had in the sand
18:52was probably in his little turtle sand pit when he was a kid.
18:55Unbelievably, he managed to get through the week,
18:59lots of improvement was made,
19:00and when I asked Juju about those good qualifying times,
19:02he said, look, I'm a racer, I can make it happen on race day.
19:05So not much experience apparently, but he was doing well.
19:08And yeah, I believe, I believe he got knocked out at this race last year,
19:14so didn't really get any laps in a year ago,
19:16so that adds to the lack of sand experience.
19:19Deegan has the experience right now, the one you want out front.
19:22Yeah, but I mean, to Carlos' point,
19:24I mean, this is one of the racetracks that you do have to understand
19:27that it's not like your typical sand track.
19:30I mean, it's like a sand hard pack racetrack,
19:32and all the experience that Juju had last year got knocked out,
19:35so he don't remember what happened anyway.
19:37But when you go back to a couple years ago,
19:39as JT was mentioned, Hayden struggled.
19:41It was one of his only races that he struggled,
19:43you know, without going down, you know,
19:45and I think it was a couple of six or something like that,
19:48but then he comes back last year, you know, and wins,
19:51and then this year, dominates.
19:52So Juju will eventually figure this racetrack out.
19:54It just takes time, and, you know, the hard part is,
19:57you got the number one, he ain't wasting time for anybody.
20:01So, yeah, 18 DNF were the scores for Beaumare a year ago.
20:06So if you're wondering why he doesn't have much experience,
20:08it's sad, didn't learn much at Southwick last year.
20:11Deegan's lead is 17 seconds.
20:14Moseman, though, has been able to shed off that pressure from Kitchen.
20:19It'd be a great ride for him,
20:21and it would be a one-two from Austria-Yomaha Star Racing
20:23if they can hold on.
20:26Great view overhead.
20:27Yeah, Levi's probably like,
20:28I'm going to have to drop back and attack him,
20:30but, you know, I will say this.
20:33You don't really know how to ride this racetrack
20:35and learn how to ride it until you're out front,
20:37like we saw Jet Lawrence and Hayden Deegan,
20:40where you're able to really, you know,
20:42pick the lines and really get a feel of how the bike is,
20:45because otherwise you're following somebody.
20:47You're getting roosted, you've got your head down,
20:48and that's not how this racetrack is.
20:51So I do feel like once you're out front
20:53and you really get a sense of the way this track is
20:57and you don't have to worry about somebody right on the back,
20:59you learn how to ride Southwick.
21:01And to me, doing this, Hayden Deegan, jumping out that far,
21:05that's part of learning how to ride Southwick.
21:07The farther you jump out, actually, the smoother it is.
21:09You wouldn't know that if you're getting battling somebody
21:11because you're getting roosted the whole time.
21:14A couple battles right here.
21:15March Banks and Vial, 6th and 7th.
21:18March Banks kind of quietly closing up to 3rd,
21:21I believe, in the championship.
21:24And they're a small right ahead of them.
21:26It's going to be a good showdown.
21:28Last 10 minutes and 2 laps.
21:30Yeah, well, we go back 2 weeks ago.
21:31Jaleed came back off an injury.
21:33So, man, I was impressed with him at high point.
21:35I'm just equally as impressed today.
21:38And it just makes you wonder if you'd have been
21:39in this championship from the beginning
21:41and had all the season to ride,
21:43how much better would he be?
21:45So, good showing by the Triumph team
21:47being, you know, 4th and 5th out here.
21:50But really, shout out to Jaleek Suarez.
21:52Looks like Tom Vial is going to get up
21:54on the inside of March Banks.
21:55Woo! He's trying so hard.
21:57These last couple of corners and sections,
21:59and it pays off.
22:0016 makes the pass on March Banks.
22:03Yeah, I don't know if it's just the racetrack
22:05and Tom just feels more comfortable here.
22:06But whatever it is, there is a change
22:08on his riding style.
22:09And I know, again, he'll be bummed at the results,
22:11especially being a lot higher
22:13and going down that first lap with Michael Mosman.
22:15But he looks better, and he looks more aggressive.
22:17And this is a Tom Vial that we kind of expected to see
22:19at the beginning part of the season.
22:21So, whatever they did,
22:22they obviously figured something out
22:24over the weekend off.
22:25So, it's good to see JT.
22:26I agree with you.
22:27I was thinking the same thing when you said that.
22:29And the way I was kind of thinking about it,
22:31he looks like he's attacking the racetrack right now,
22:33where the first few rounds,
22:34he looked very complacent.
22:36He was kind of having to take what the track gave him.
22:38And now, he just looks so much more aggressive
22:41in his tact and the way he's doing about things.
22:43So, I agree with you.
22:44I don't know if it was testing in the off week
22:46or whatever it is,
22:46but this is a different looking Tom Vial.
22:49Not going to show in the results,
22:51or maybe it will,
22:52because he's not done.
22:54Now has swollen his sights,
22:55and then Harrop is about four seconds up the road.
22:58Vial is absolutely throwing down now.
23:00Yeah, and you see what Tom did.
23:02Now, as I mentioned earlier,
23:03like when guys get close to him,
23:05he's not going to get closer just to follow.
23:06He feels like he has an opportunity to pass him.
23:09Now him and Jalik are in the same line.
23:11So, Tom would probably back it off
23:13unless he feels like he can get by him
23:14at the finish line by the mechanics here.
23:17But, yeah, I'm with you, JT.
23:19He just looks like he's a lot more aggressive,
23:21being loose, making some mistakes,
23:23the bike's flipping around,
23:24and that's not how Tom has been riding so far this year.
23:27So, definitely good signs on that Red Bull KTM to see that.
23:33Ooh, nice line by Jalik right there.
23:36Trying to keep it smooth now.
23:37Well, you mentioned that injury came back
23:39from an Achilles swole
23:40in the last race at high point,
23:42then hit him hole in the back section of the track
23:44in the first moto,
23:45felt some pain in that ankle foot.
23:47He was worried for a second,
23:49but then realized that's probably the scar tissue.
23:51Woo!
23:51I mean, some scar tissue built up there for VL.
23:55Hard landing, but makes the pass.
23:57Yeah, no, that actually wasn't a hard landing
23:59because he landed it that way.
24:00Yeah, it was smoother,
24:01and clearly he was able to get it,
24:02but that's what we've seen.
24:03Whoa!
24:04Hey, you'd lap route, you better watch out.
24:06Tom coming through.
24:06I'll knock anybody down.
24:08So, Captain Tom's out here getting it done.
24:11I don't know if I've ever seen VL this aggressive.
24:14No, and you can tell he's feeling,
24:15but here's Levi.
24:16He caught back up to Michael again
24:18and see if he can open up the kitchen for business.
24:21Does he have another attack in him?
24:24A little bit quicker last time around.
24:26Kitchen over Mosman for second place.
24:30Yeah, Levi was about two seconds faster than Michael,
24:32and you're not sure if that was because of lap riders,
24:34but as I said, I thought Levi was going to sit back
24:37and just go after Michael and then try to attack him
24:40because once you're about 20 seconds behind first place,
24:42your whole goal is just to get second at this point.
24:44So, you know you got the whole motor to do it,
24:47and maybe if you let Michael go, he starts relaxing,
24:50and then you can attack him
24:51because he might think you had him broken.
24:52We'll find out here.
24:57That line by Kitchen all the way down to the bottom of that corner
25:00where there weren't any tire tracks at all.
25:02It sure looks slippery,
25:03but trying to save energy at this point?
25:05No, that's actually how Southwood breaks down.
25:07If you, you know, we saw Jalik do that right before the mechanics there,
25:10right, those inside lines,
25:12and it's hard to get there because it is so slippery,
25:15but as this track goes, it's normally slower,
25:18but as the track breaks down,
25:19the outside is going to get slower and slower and get rougher,
25:22more rough because of those conditions.
25:24So that inside, it actually, you're saving energy,
25:26but it is probably the faster way around the racetrack.
25:28Okay, well, watch those insides.
25:30Could pay off for Kitchen.
25:32Ryder out of Washington.
25:35Moseman, the Northern California native.
25:41It's fun to hear the bikes through here.
25:53Oh, it's wide open through that section.
25:55Here's the big jump.
25:58Yeah, you see the difference where Michael came up
26:02about a couple feet shorter
26:03and how much harder it was for him,
26:05and Levi jumped out there.
26:06So let's see if Levi tried to switch him up.
26:08Oh, yeah, he wanted to get to the end side,
26:10but I believe Michael's mistake caused him to slow it down,
26:13and he wasn't really sure,
26:14but great ride by him.
26:17And right back where they were about three laps ago,
26:20Kitchen with the attack.
26:24All right, now Levi has got to get this bike.
26:27On the inside, Michael's going to keep pushing to the outside,
26:30so if you can get on the inside of him.
26:33He's trying.
26:34Yeah, it's going to be hard for Michael to get back to the inside.
26:36Oh, Levi could have been more aggressive,
26:37but at this point, Levi knows,
26:40I feel like I got him,
26:41but at the same time, Michael's still fighting.
26:43Oh, just throwing everything out of the kitchen.
26:52Like they say, he's throwing everything in the kitchen sink.
26:55Everything but the kitchen sink.
26:56Oh, lap traffic.
26:58Still not enough to hold up Moseman.
27:02Survives another attack.
27:03No!
27:04Kits of the inside, lost traction.
27:05Yeah, now I would tell you from that point,
27:07Levi wasn't actually trying to pass Michael.
27:09He had to gas it because he knew
27:11the only way he could make this turn is by sliding the rear end
27:13because he didn't want to just follow Michael.
27:15He would have got roosted.
27:16So I think that was more of a cost of vision than anything.
27:20And you can see how much time he lost because of that.
27:22He just wanted to turn it into oversteer,
27:24instead of understeer,
27:24to push off the track.
27:26Well, sometimes if you get so close to somebody,
27:28you can actually miss the roost.
27:29and I just think Levi was trying to stay out of that.
27:33So we'll find out.
27:34But I don't think that was him trying to actually pass Michael.
27:37That corner was way too tight.
27:38That's Tom Vial's working on Jalik Swole for fourth place now.
27:41No, that's my heart.
27:43It was already past Swole.
27:44Man, what a moto for Vial.
27:47Right near the section where he crashed earlier.
27:52And at the top of your kitchen still going for it.
27:55Bottom boxes Vial.
27:57And Harrop, they're putting a lap rider behind him.
28:03Yeah, very impressive ride by Tom Vial to get out
28:05and pick that bike up.
28:07Because how the season's been going,
28:09he could have easily been like, man, another race.
28:11But this is a lot more fight than we've seen all year long.
28:15So good ride by him.
28:19You know, we talk so much about the Supercross Championship hangover.
28:22We talk about it with Cooper Webb a lot in the 450 class.
28:25because Vial did win a title in the most dramatic circumstances you can
28:29with Hampshire, Hamacre, and then he rolls by.
28:33Do you think there was any of that residual?
28:35Because we haven't seen that Vial we expected the first couple weeks outdoors.
28:38No, I don't personally think it was that.
28:41I mean, I think the way that Supercross, if anything,
28:43he might have been more shocked on how it happened.
28:46And so eventually the Supercross hangover, if he did have it,
28:50it would have went away and we would have saw some rides like this.
28:52As you mentioned earlier, you don't know if you've ever seen him ride this aggressive,
28:56especially like this year.
28:57So, yeah, I don't think the Supercross, it wasn't like he had a big points lead
29:01and he was more stressed on trying to, you know, win that thing.
29:05I think he knew he had to step up and ride and get focused
29:08because I don't even know if he was the best guy in that championship
29:11at that moment until he was able to get it done.
29:13So no Supercross hangover here.
29:15I think he's just figured out whatever as he makes the pass.
29:18He's going for it, just putting that rear wheel into the ground
29:21and making the pass on Harrop for fourth.
29:25Harrop coming back.
29:26Yeah, he's coming back.
29:27That Tom saw he was spinning up that bike,
29:30and Mikel was going to get him back, so he had to cut him off.
29:33So I love it, but still a great ride by Mikel Harrop here, top five,
29:39and said he was feeling good about this sand.
29:43Yeah, he's putting up right now, still that fifth and sixth for Ian Swole.
29:46A good run for the Triumph team.
29:48March Banks, Master Pole, seventh and eighth,
29:50half-acre ninth, Bullen tenth, JT.
29:53Well, guys, I said I wanted to see some fight out of Tom Vial.
29:57I wanted to see him come back and show us some heart,
30:00show us the guy that wants to be in the fight for this championship,
30:02the guy that won his first-ever race at this racetrack,
30:04and I think we've gotten it.
30:06Now, on the score sheet, it's going to show a fourth in Emoto,
30:08but I think we can all agree that this effort was much more than that,
30:12and if Tom Vial wants to find any success in the rest of 2025,
30:15this is a great way to kick things off.
30:18Well, to that end, JT, I want to ask you,
30:19we were talking about Jorge Prado with a good qualifying in the morning,
30:22obviously feeling good at this track,
30:24but you said that could unlock something from all the tracks.
30:27Can the same thing apply to the sixth team?
30:29Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, and again,
30:31when you come into a championship, you know, with Tom Vial,
30:34especially with, you know, I don't think he thought
30:37Hayden Deegan was going to run away from him.
30:39He felt like he was going to at least try to get some wins in here.
30:41When things don't go right, it's frustrating,
30:43and when you go back to Supercross, maybe not going the way you want,
30:46even though you won a championship, you know you can ride better.
30:49So to me, I do feel like this will unlock some things for Tom
30:53to be able to at least get up there and battle with Hayden Deegan.
30:56So we'll find out, the same thing with Jorge.
30:59And all roads lead to the Supermotocross playoffs
31:02where Vial and Deegan have been strong in the past.
31:05Start September 6th, Charlotte, North Carolina,
31:08then September 13th, St. Louis, Missouri at the Dome,
31:11and then the SMX World Championship final
31:13for the second year in a row in Las Vegas.
31:16That's when the champions are crowned.
31:18For tickets and information, go to Supermotocross.com.
31:26Is there any time left?
31:28Vial has a massive gap to make up.
31:30If he were to get to that kitchen and Mosman battle,
31:35this might be as far as he can go, fourth place.
31:38For the Frenchman of the Red Bull KTM.
31:40Yeah, you can see him take a little look up there.
31:43I think he's too far behind Levi, unless Levi goes into, you know, shutdown mode.
31:48But, I mean, I've got to give credit to Michael Mosman.
31:51I feel like he might have broken Levi, and Levi probably thought he had him once he attacked him,
31:56once Michael held on to that.
31:57So, just a lot of respect for him.
32:00Then the guy starts thinking about the next moto.
32:02So, good shout out by them, all three of these guys.
32:04Yeah, I love it, man.
32:06That's why you fight so hard.
32:08He could have relented to kitchen, jeez, two, three times.
32:11Never let him by.
32:13Deegan's lead is 23 seconds, almost right on cue.
32:17We talked about Gent Lawrence with his most dominant ride of the year in the first 450 moto.
32:23Now, Deegan doing similar things as his mechanic, Brent Duffy.
32:26Got the smile, because this is exactly what they want to see with the big cat.
32:30Yeah, I guarantee if you ask him, honestly, like, hey, how difficult was that race?
32:35He'd be like, well, that's probably the easiest race I had all year.
32:38Because you get to the point to where you actually start, you're able to rest.
32:43Because this track, if you do find a flow, it becomes, I wouldn't say easy,
32:47because Southwick is a hard racetrack.
32:49But just like that line right there, how he's able to go to the inside.
32:52Well, he doesn't have anybody near him, so he's able to do that.
32:55So he can take his time and miss all the bumps.
32:58And I bet if you just watch Hayden ride, he's going to be pulling away from these guys,
33:02doing it on the smoothest line around this racetrack.
33:05And the reason he's able to do that, because he's so far up front.
33:07So really easy race for him, and all that damage was done the first three laps.
33:13And Deegan, the real story for him was how large the points lead was early in the year,
33:18because a lot of the contenders have had their problems while he's winning.
33:20You've got Chance Heimats, the only rider to beat him this year, out.
33:23Now with the torn ACL, Kitchin had a DNF and a moto,
33:27Vial had a bad moto, and then Shimoda, who's second in points coming into this one.
33:32First turn crash, he's in 12th, trying to track Thrasher down.
33:37Might come down to the last lap to get to 11th place,
33:40and that is that battle, you're looking at the bottom.
33:42That's Shimoda, you see the red fenders of the Honda,
33:46with the Yamaha of Thrasher right ahead of him.
33:48But only for 11th place, Shimoda's got speed, showing the results.
33:54Yeah, it seems like we said a lot of that for a lot of these guys.
33:57They got speed, but the results aren't showing,
33:59and especially here at Southwake, it makes it really hard to get around
34:02when you come into back, you get a bad start.
34:04But, yeah, I mean, I think when Hayden, we go back a couple weekends ago
34:09at Thunder Valley, I mean, he almost had a DNF that first moto,
34:12so when you look at the championship, there's a long way to go.
34:15But he feels, we see, if he's riding and no mechanicals,
34:20and he doesn't go down, it's going to be hard for anybody to beat him.
34:23And that's, any rider, that's exactly where you want to be at.
34:26That's all you can hope for, is just a chance.
34:28If I put my best foot forward and you do, you're going to lose.
34:31And I think Hayden Deegan feels like that.
34:33Shimoda made the move on Thrasher and has now caught Volant.
34:36He might be able to get to 10th place from down in turn one.
34:40Now, here's the strange thing about Shimoda.
34:42He's won the second moto here at Southwake the last two years.
34:46But at a sixth and a first moto and a ninth and a first moto,
34:49and now he's running 11th and a first moto.
34:52So the problems early at Southwake have killed his chances
34:56for an overall at a track where he is very fast.
34:59But look at this.
34:59Oh, almost had the move on Volant.
35:02Yeah, that was a good line by Joe.
35:04But again, those smoother lines, like I was saying,
35:07they'll eventually pay us.
35:08Joe jumps in that soft part.
35:10But in his stats, he's right on point.
35:12He's on average Joe right here.
35:15First moto kind of gives it back.
35:16But, you know, again, Joe's been running really good all year long.
35:19And anyone outside of Hayden Deegan,
35:21it just seems like if you don't get that start,
35:23this field is too close.
35:24Everybody's too close to really separate it.
35:27And there it is.
35:28He's made the pass on Volant.
35:30So he's up to 10th.
35:32Maybe a 10-1 day in order for Shimoda
35:35after a 6-1 and a 9-1 here the last two years.
35:39Yeah, I mean, he ran at 2.16 on that last lap.
35:42I mean, the only one that was close to that was Tom Vial
35:45with a 2.16 as well.
35:46But Joe Shimoda just ran as fast as lap of the race
35:49that last lap.
35:50And we saw him trying to get around and make those passes.
35:52So clearly he has the speed.
35:54He just kind of can't go down.
35:57Well, James, we started this moto symbolically talking about Deegan
36:01versus Jet Lawrence.
36:02Is this on a collision course?
36:04Ironically or coincidentally, if he wins this moto,
36:07which it looks like he will,
36:08he's going to tie Lawrence for career moto wins in this class.
36:12This is Vial.
36:14I think we might have lost Michael.
36:15Wait a minute.
36:15Where is Mozeman?
36:17We are now seeing Kitchin second and Vial third.
36:21And a bad lap time for Mozeman at 2.23.
36:25Yeah, I just saw him pop up, so he must have went down.
36:28Oh, the last lap.
36:29Oh, bummer.
36:33Well, JT says he saw the move made by Vial,
36:36so I'm not sure if he crashed or if he just lost the pace.
36:39But either way, it's going to cost him a moto podium.
36:42Well, Mozeman will yield to both Kitchin and Vial.
36:45No yielding here.
36:48Another checkered flag, another moto win for Hayden Deegan.
36:55What a journey to the podium for Tom Vial.
37:00Kitchin trying to spot him for a second.
37:03There he is on the 47.
37:06Yeah, good route by leaving.
37:07I'm not sure what happened to Michael.
37:08It seems like that lap time was too close to be able to go down
37:11unless he just baby-tipped it or stalled it and ran off the racetrack.
37:14But keep fighting to the end, and he's good.
37:17And that might sit well.
37:19Tom Vial to go down like he did,
37:21to come back up and end up with a third place.
37:23You just never know what happens in the second moto.
37:25Yep.
37:25They could be in position for the overall
37:27if there's a problem for this young man.
