2025 Motocross Southwick 250 Moto 1
Transcript
00:00That's why we line them up and we go racing because anything can happen and just that highlight we show hey Deegan going down last year so you know this track here at Southwood presents its own challenge so we're going to find out the next 30 plus two. And the starts have actually been a weakness for Deegan this year both in Supercross and Motocross. Does not have a whole shot outdoors yet. Had three at this point last year so let's see what kind of launch he gets going a little bit outside. I wouldn't say it's a weakness I just say he's probably not as focused on it.
00:29Maybe doesn't need to be. Let's find out. Rebs are up. Gates down. Well he certainly got the launch this time. Deegan has that first hole shot of the year. And you were saying Jack. Okay is he more focused on that today? Yeah well he probably doesn't want to get dirty out here but he knows just like I mean there's a lot of motivation what he just saw what Jack Lawrence did in that 450 class and Hayden knows he can get out here and execute
00:59these first few lapses and we see Tom Biao trying to get around the 93 and Michael Moseman. He can put this race away early and really just ride this race on out but good to see Tom Biao and Mikko Nora bending here at Harrop. Excuse me. Yep. It's right there. Oh and then someone just tucked the front and went down. Was that Hamaker right behind Harrop.
01:21But then Jalik Swole was the next. Oh that got close. Yeah that was a hands up riding by both those guys because that gap started closing down and both of them made the decision. So yeah I think that was. I thought Jalik Swole was up there. So it must have been South Hamaker that went down. Bummer for him.
01:37Yeah because Kitchen that's the other Monster Pro Sergeant Kawasaki is still there on the 47. Look man I know Deegan gets motivated when people say he's got a weakness. That was record time. I mean five seconds after I said no hold shots he has one. I swear he's not listening to the show as it goes but he's already pulling away. You've got Moseman second and here's Vial third.
01:57Nah he's got the teleport right there. Jason said I'm struggling. I'll do him but it wasn't even close so you know we're good. But I think that really comes down to a lot with the track and Hayden being his third time here. He knows division is a big thing so why don't you make life easier on yourself by getting out front.
02:16I mean Gent Lawrence wasn't much different in that 450 mode of he always gets starts but that early pulling away so now the battle shifts to second. Moseman who is quick and qualifying and has really been building
02:27throughout this pro motocross championship running well in second of the 93. Yeah Michael's been around really good all year long and especially this motocross series and he's been up in the top five a few motos and just has some falls here and there that you know the finishes are not as good as what he's been riding so for him good to see him up there but I'm really interested to see what Tom Vial does. He's been talking about you know he's. Oh just held on to that James. Yeah. Oh and Vial goes down. Yeah and I can tell you what that was caused. He wasn't sure if Michael was going to get back on the track so Tom was
02:56out of sorts because he was looking at Michael lost the front end and that was a bummer but I was going to say with Tom was these opening laps haven't been his strongest point of the year so we won't be able to find that out until second moto but man that's a bummer for
03:09actually both these guys because they lose Tom to Hayden Deegan but especially Tom. Oh yeah and early in the race Vial is going to go way back now I think he's in 11th place. Harrop up to third now ahead of Kitchen. Yeah he's been riding really good so we'll see. Will.
03:26So look at Michael Mosmer in the great position that he's in right now. He was talking to me early and telling me honestly this is sort of the first time that he's felt really good. Apparently he had a stomach virus off the back of Thunder Valley there that took him out he said for two whole weeks. He said he was so depleted he was drinking chicken noodle soup twice a day for like a week and he said he got to the high point round and just had absolutely nothing. James you know how tough these tracks are. These outdoor trucks are how much it takes out of you.
03:56You basically done so he said now I'm healthy. I was able to put in some good days on the bike and hopefully it's going to show up today and it is a moto one guys. Yeah no that's that's tough and I've been in a position as all these riders have when you go up to the second moto. Sometimes I'm sitting there in between motos I'm like I don't I don't know how I'm even going to finish this race let alone you know go out there and compete. So it just shows you how much determination Michael has and I'm sure a lot of that comes from just his you know excitement
04:26he broke his neck people like he was out wasn't sure if he's ever going to race again. So him being back out here he's looking at this you know being out here just a good thing compared to where he was as Levi kitchen makes his pass across McHale for third place. I'm happy for Michael. It is a great story in the return but I want to ask you this. Okay he's sick. We hear fighters talk about illness all the time. Jet Lawrence mentioned to the podium. Cooper Webb said he's been under the weather for all five rounds now. What is
04:56it about the lifestyle the training travel whatever it is because we hear this all the time in this sport. Yeah I mean what it really comes down to it's like you know for the average day you know fan out there is the days that you don't feel good you go to work you call in a sick day well here a sick day you feel like you're letting your whole team down you know not only your team your sponsors everybody out here so you just continue you know going and going and then this year we've been in altitude we've been in 100 degree weather there's been a lot of things that these guys are still going out there competing so if you're not
05:26whether you're sick or not it was going to be hard to get through these first four races and being sick only makes it difficult so I just think it's the lifestyle as you just mentioned Jason they're training during the week all the riding it's just a toll on these guys whether they're sick or not and being sick puts you behind the eight ball off the beginning. Do you think even in your experience are you more susceptible because you're draining yourself so much to catch something? Yeah absolutely it's I mean it's kind of the same concept where you know your kid comes home with a sickness from school
05:56everybody in the household is going to catch it so for with these guys and it's a different way once that body gets depleted you're going out here still running through the same you know physical conditions because the track doesn't care Southwick doesn't care if you're sick or not and I know these other riders don't care they're pushing your body and eventually something has to give and it's usually your immune system and these guys have to deal with it.
06:17Deegan starting to get away he's got an eighth second lead that's him in the bottom box you mentioned that kitchen made the move on Haram for a third going to try to run Moseman down but has about three seconds to make up.
06:29JT what do you think with a leader there? Well I think he's pretty spectacular here and let's flash back to a year ago here there were a lot of questions about whether he could come into a race like Southwick a full sand track and get the job done and he really fed off of that he really leaned into it and used it as motivation and he's been really vocal about hey you guys all doubted me I proved you wrong and let's let's think about what he's doing here this is a racetrack where we weren't sure if sand was really his thing
06:59not always is he out to win he's already got almost a 10 second lead and we're not even 10 minutes into this race so it's not that he's winning he's been winning all year it's the way he's going about the winning and we're you know we're coming up and halfway through the season I just see him grabbing another gear and he's finding the maturity that I think you really needed before he takes that step to a 450.
07:19JT it's talent it's maturity but it's also a lot of hard work from him and the whole team there because they didn't just rest on the achievements that they made those gains that they made in the sand last year they were in North Carolina this past week going back to work they pulled out the notebook and went over everything that they told hey to make sure in these turns you do that body position wise handling all this potential mistakes that we're seeing out here on the track
07:49the whole week was a reminder of what to do so we can go out in a day like today and execute
07:54yeah and that's a that's a good point and having a team like star racing yamaha keeping them focused because
07:59you know I I almost would put money on that Hayden was sitting on the gate after watching jet lawrence
08:04win and just the motivation and the sound bike we we have from him in the beginning part
08:09him knowing and where his his ultimate goals is to eventually get to that 450 class in a race against jet lawrence
08:15I bet he was sitting on the gate saying you know what if you can do that I'm gonna do it better and it's easy for a young kid to start overriding the motorcycle doing things out of characteristic and how you got here and that's why I do believe a team like star racing who has the championships and the pedigree to be like hey hey we know you want to go out there and do this but we got to still go through the motions we got to practice we have to ride the sand tracks because we know you can win but if you don't execute and do the things that got you here you will get beat and you will end up you know
08:45being in a position so it's a deadly combination to deal with and you're watching something spectacular just like we were watching with jet lawrence his kids got it all for sure
08:54and the bottom box below digging there the yellow in orange has made his way back up
08:59he's got Nate thrasher right ahead of him in eight he is nine and then time masterpool is 10 shout out to parker ross running well
09:07on the bar x toyota redlands yamaha they only get a limited amount of help from yamaha riding well
09:12in 11th and they all started to close on thrasher then boland is up ahead in seventh
09:20you know and sometimes with in a position like you know tom vial like don't don't mistake and we talk
09:26about hayden deegan but tom vial it's looked pretty aggressive all day today and he's obviously gotten up
09:31and he's motivated to move forward which he might be able to make his way but sometimes when you go down
09:36it might be a better space to be at as he makes the pass um right here it might be a better space
09:41because for him he wants to get better and get the opening laps and the last thing he wants to see
09:46is him be in second place and watch hayden deegan pull away from him so it might be in a sense that he
09:51goes down and now he's making his way up getting better and finding that flow and since he went down
09:57he doesn't have to worry about hayden deegan he can just get that confidence instead of maybe
10:00watching hayden deegan right away from him now jt okay there's no doubt about it he's riding really
10:06well here the one thing i want to see from these guys whether it's tom vial whether it's levi
10:10kitchen is i want to see them be able to overcome the adversity that we've seen deegan be able to do
10:16of course in 2024 now for vial this is the perfect opportunity you go down a small crash but you have
10:22the pace how can you get back to a podium position which is where you belong on this racetrack because
10:28that's what hayden deegan would be doing out front that's when i want to see them be able to turn
10:32the corner and be that guy that can fight for a championship because on your bad days you still
10:37need to be near the podium that's how championships get done it's certainly going to be a test for vial
10:42to get back to that podium type spot after that early crash of voland in his sights and this is it
10:48kitchen has closed the gap on mosevin for the number two spot yeah levi's been rotten good the last few
10:55weekends and so is michael so uh you know you're about 10 minutes in this race and it's going to
10:59be a long moto from these guys and and that that back and forth that you're going to see that cat
11:04and mouse it's going to be a lot of that today and like i mentioned earlier it really just comes
11:07down to in somebody's one line section is that these guys got to back off and get these the guy in
11:13front of them room otherwise you're just going to run into vision issues and again all the sand and all
11:17that so um levi will close in on them and then michael stretch it out but still good ride by both
11:23these guys they've been running really good this might be an opportunity for levi to try to get
11:27around michael if he can close the gap oh this is going to be good let's see how this outside yeah
11:36is that outside just not formed up yet she goes back to work
11:43uh fun to hear the bikes labor through the sand
11:59and they're going to wind it back out past the mechanics area
12:05the motivation for most of it keep going yeah i feel like with this racetrack you know there's only
12:12certain parts where you're like you're white knuckling here where you're like i'm scared and
12:16that's one of the sections when you go past that mechanics area it's a high speed really the bike's
12:21moving around it's sliding and it's like man i'm just happy to get through it the rest of this
12:25racetrack really just comes out the mental and physical like these rollers going up this hill
12:30it is so much energy to continue doing that over uh 230 minute moto so again it's two different
12:36challenges there's not too many scary parts of this racetrack but there's a lot of physical parts that
12:41eventually just wears you down and um the reason is because all the corners have bumps in them and
12:46so it makes it difficult for all these riders most men has not had a moto podium james since 2022
12:53and that was at hangtown very early in that season for so over three years has not had an overall
12:58podium since 2021 we've talked about his comeback quite a bit broke his neck multiple concussions
13:05thought his career was over found the right people that said you know what you're not at any more risk
13:09than you were before with the deck so he decided to go back out there he just wanted a shot at it to
13:14do it differently and see how it would turn out it's been very good but is it good enough to hold off
13:19kitchen oh a nice line by levi the reason i like that line because it opens up this next corner
13:25and now he's going to funnel michael goes outside levi be back on the inside so
13:31inside it says it's another spot maybe levi if he can get this corner right he should be next to michael
13:37michael squares him up but oh you can see the address he was evil knievel style launching that
13:42single trying to stay close but it wasn't enough yeah he just knows there's only a few opportunities
13:47he's going to try to do this slingshot move around but he knows his outside berm isn't you know built yet
13:53as he tries to cut back in so he's got to go back to work again so in previous years that would have
13:57been enough of a berm there to make that move well i mean as the day goes on and outside will come up it's
14:03just earlier in the day that it hasn't you know progressed yet so um yeah the lines that they're
14:08running right now it'll change and they'll start getting some of these outside lines where the
14:12the lighter part of the track where they're not going that'll get darker as the day goes on
14:16but for sure levi just remembered last last lap it wasn't there yet so and still not able to make
14:23it work harrop still running fourth great ride for him and now his triumph teammate swole is up to
14:28the fifth so two triumphs in the top five you see boats have been hit that hole at the bottom of
14:33that jump yeah eventually these there gets these big old holes and how they're jumping into like what
14:39michael just did right there they'll be able to do that oh kitchen now let's see levi's gonna try
14:45to square him up and get back down the inside of them here
14:47still not enough no but this is another spot right here levi can maybe get this corner good
14:59as he does it no it was all out of sorts you mentioned energy going up that hill
15:04but your kitchen used a whole bunch right there yeah no he he used a lot i mean now he probably sit
15:09back and you see that now he's trying to rest he's sitting on his seat and that's all that energy that
15:14he's using especially on these 250 bikes you know he buries it in his corners he's got to try to stay
15:18with michael so man this track will wear you out so you'll literally see him hammer a section and then
15:24you see a little bit of resting yeah absolutely when you see a guy especially on these sand tracks if
15:29you just pay attention when you see a guy get close to him that means they're going after the pass it's
15:33not like they're getting close to him just to wait for him a few corners down the road no they're trying to
15:37make that pass instantly otherwise they're going to drop back because that ruse it wears you out and again
15:43with levi he just knows there's certain parts of this racetrack that i got to be close to him to
15:47be able to make a pass and now he'll probably go down the same lines that michael does and then
15:51just funnel back in until he gets a lot closer to him and get a little strength back in the legs
15:57for another attack got her up swole march bank six vl seventh he's got around bowling this track is
16:05getting rough most men just able to hang on in the entrance to the corner almost throws it down yeah
16:10that's because he was losing the front end like you said but now he knew that verma eventually
16:14catch him so you know just got to keep that up just slid into it oh he just slid in i mean he didn't
16:19have no choice so it wasn't like he was the bike saying i'm this is what's going to happen either
16:24you accept it you don't so this is great stuff looking at these two on the edge as this track
16:31starting to show some teeth 450 moto two going to be able to even worse than this yeah i mean
16:37the end of the 250 moto is going to be even worse than this yeah that's the hard part every lap you
16:42come by you're just like man we only in the first moto like i got to deal with this so that's why i say
16:47you got to survive the day out here now it's the key to the moto definitely is right now this is joe
16:52shimoto this is just to get into the points he's 20th right or second in the standings getting around
17:00battling with julian boomerick 24th early in this one not sure what happened to joe maybe a problem
17:07of the start oh it was first turn crash a lot of work to do jt well joe shimoto is certainly coming
17:13from the back but he was caught up in a pileup with the likes of rider defrancisco and a few others
17:18like we saw in that first moto this first corner they come in there with a lot of speed but it gets
17:22really deep really fast everybody has those hole shot devices still compressed it's a really tricky first
17:28corner here and it wouldn't really seem that way on the surface we've already seen two crashes through two
17:32starts and then apparently shimoto went down again after the first turn crash that's another reason
17:38why he is this far back 19th 18th now and got a long way to go he's also uh got the jersey or is that
17:51a tear-off dangling in the side yeah it looks like the jersey so that means he might have got ran over
17:56at that point will okay so we'll go back to boomerick these are great riders who are battling just
18:02inside the top 20 and there's still half the race left reminder that monster energy is available now
18:09as we get halfway through this moto let's send it back down to will and what a shame that julian
18:14boomerick got caught up the way jt was saying at the beginning there because he was looking really
18:19good in qualifying seventh in the first i believe third in the second qualifying session and and that
18:25was what surprising this was surprised the whole team they basically took him to ride in the sand this
18:30week carlos rivera the crew chief said well he we know we're going to have to put him in the sand he's
18:35from lake havasu he's from california he's used to a hard face let's see how he goes and both juju
18:40and carlos when he showed when they showed up they went oh no they shook their heads they said what are we
18:45going to do and i said he's had no experience in the sand and carlos said put it like this
18:49the most experience that juju's had in the sand was probably in his little turtle sandpit when he was
18:54a kid unbelievably he managed to get through the week lots of improvement was made and when i asked
19:01juju about those good qualifying times i said look i'm a racer i can make it happen on race day so uh
19:06not much experience apparently but he was doing well and yeah i believe i believe he got knocked out at
19:13this race last year so didn't really get any laps in a year ago so that adds to the lack of sad
19:18experience he has the experience right now the one you want out front yeah but i mean to to carlos
19:24point i mean this is one of the racetracks that you you do have to understand that it's not like your
19:29typical sand track i mean it's like a sand hard pack uh racetrack and all the experience that juju had
19:34last year he got knocked out so he don't remember what happened anyway so but when you go back to a couple
19:39years ago jt was mentioned hayden struggled it was one of his only races that he struggled
19:44you know without going down you know and i think it was a couple of six or something like that but
19:48then he comes back last year you know and wins and then this year dominates so juju will eventually
19:53figure this racetrack out it just takes time and um you know hard part is you got the number one
19:59he ain't wasting time for anybody so yeah 18 dnf were the scores for boomer a year ago so if you're
20:07wondering why he doesn't have much experience instead didn't learn much at southwick last year
20:11deegan's lead is 17 seconds most of it though he's been able to shed off that pressure from kitchen
20:20be a great ride for him and it will be a one two from australia star racing if they can hold on
20:26great view overhead yeah levi's probably like i'm gonna have to drop back and attack him but
20:31you know i will say this um you don't really know how to ride this racetrack and learn how to ride it
20:36until you're out front like we saw jet lawrence and hayden deegan where you're able to really
20:42you know pick the lines and really get a feel of how the bike is because otherwise you're following
20:46somebody you're getting roosted you got your head down and and that's not how this racetrack is so i do
20:52feel like once you're out front and you really get a sense of um the way this track is and you don't
20:57have to worry about somebody right on the back you learn how to ride southwick and um to me doing this
21:03hey deegan jumping out that far that's part of learning how to ride southwick the farther you
21:07jump out actually the smoother it is you wouldn't know that if you're getting battling somebody
21:11because you're getting roosted the whole time a couple battles right here march banks and vl
21:17sixth and seventh march banks kind of quietly closing up to third i believe in the championship
21:24and they're small right ahead of them it's going to be a good showdown
21:28last 10 minutes and two laps yeah when we go back two weeks ago julie came back off an injury so
21:33man i was impressed with him at high point i'm just equally as pressed um today and it just makes
21:38you wonder if you'd have been in this championship from the beginning and had all the season to ride
21:43how much better would he be so good showing by the triumph team being you know fourth and fifth out
21:49here but really shout out to julie swales looks like tom vial is going to get up on the inside of march
21:54banks he's trying so hard these last couple of corners and sections and it pays off 16 makes the
22:01pass on march banks yeah i don't know if it's just the racetrack and tom just feels more comfortable
22:06here but whatever it is there there is a change on his riding style and i know again he'll be bummed
22:11at the results especially being a lot higher and going down that first lap with mike from ocean but
22:15he looks better and he looks more aggressive and this is a tom vial that we kind of expected to see
22:19at the beginning part of the season so whatever they did they obviously figured something out
22:23over the weekend off so it's good to see jt i i agree with you i was thinking the same thing when
22:29you said that and the way i was kind of thinking about he looks like he's attacking the racetrack
22:33right now where the first few rounds he looked very complacent he was kind of having to take what
22:37the track gave him and now he just looks so much more aggressive in his tact and the way he's going
22:42about things so i agree with you i don't know if it was testing in the off week or whatever it is but this
22:47is a different looking tom vial not going to show in the results or maybe it will because he's not
22:53done now has swollen his sights and then harrop is about four seconds up the road vial is absolutely
22:59throwing down now yeah and you see what tom did now as i mentioned earlier like when guys get close
23:04him he's not going to get closer just to follow he feels like he has an opportunity to pass him now him
23:09and jalique are in the same line so tom would probably back it off unless he feels like he can get by him
23:14at the finish line by the mechanics here but yeah i i'm with you jt he just looks like he's a lot more
23:21aggressive being loose making some mistakes the bikes flipping around and that's not how tom has
23:26been riding so far this year so definitely uh good signs on that uh ripple ktm to see that
23:33oh nice line by jalique right there trying to keep it smooth now well you mentioned an injury came back
23:38from an achilles swole in the last race at high point then hit a hole in the back section of the
23:44track of the first moto felt some pain in that ankle foot he was worried for a second but then realized
23:49that's probably the scar tissue some scar tissue built up there for vial hard landing but makes the
23:56pass yeah no that actually wasn't a hard landing because he landed it that way it was smoother and
24:01clearly he was able to get it but that's what we've seen whoa hey you'd lap rob you better watch out tom
24:06coming through i'll knock anybody down so captain tom's out here getting it done i don't know if
24:11i've ever seen big all this aggressive no and then you can tell he's feeling but here's levi he
24:17caught back up to michael again let's see if he can open up the kitchen for business
24:22does he have another attack in him a little bit quicker last time around the kitchen over moseman
24:28for second place yeah levi was about two seconds faster than michael and you're not sure if that was
24:33because of lap riders but as i said i thought levi was going to sit back and just go after michael
24:39and then try to attack him because once you're about 20 seconds behind first place your whole goal
24:43is just to get second at this point so you know you got the whole motor to do it and maybe if you let
24:48michael go he starts relaxing and then you can attack him because he might think you had him broken
24:52we'll find out here
24:57that line by kitchen all the way down to the bottom of that corner where there weren't any tire tracks at
25:02all it sure looks slippery but trying to save energy at this point no that's actually how southward
25:06breaks down if you you know we saw jaleek do that right before the mechanics there right those um
25:11those inside lines and it's hard to get there because it is so slippery but as this track goes
25:16it's normally slower but as the track breaks down the outside is going to get slower and slower and
25:21get rougher uh more rough because of those conditions so that inside is actually you're saving energy but
25:26it is probably the faster way around the racetrack okay well watch those insides could pay off for
25:31kitchen rider out of washington moseman the northern california native
25:37it's fun to hear the bikes through here
25:53oh it's wide open through that section here's the big jump
25:59yeah you see the difference where michael came up about a couple feet shorter and how much
26:03harder it was for him and levi jumped out there so let's see if levi tried to switch him oh yeah
26:08he wanted to get to that inside but i believe michael's mistake caused him to slow it down and
26:13he wasn't really sure but great rod by him and right back where they were about three laps ago
26:20kitchen with the attack
26:24all right now levi he's got to get this bike on the inside michael's going to keep pushing to the
26:30outside so if you could get on the inside of him he's trying yeah it's going to be hard for michael
26:35to get back to the inside oh levi could have been more aggressive but
26:38at this point levi knows i feel like i got him but at the same time michael's still fighting
26:47oh just throwing everything out of the kitchen
26:53like they say he's throwing everything and the kitchen sink everything but the kitchen sink
26:56oh lap traffic still not enough to hold up bozeman survives another attack no
27:04tenter of the inside lost traction yeah now i would tell you from that point levi wasn't actually
27:08trying to pass michael he had to gas it because he knew the only way he could make this turn is by
27:13sliding the rear because he didn't want to just follow michael he would have got roosted so i think
27:17that was more of a cost of vision um than anything and you can see how much time he lost because of that
27:22they just want to turn it into oversteer instead of understeer well push off the track well sometimes
27:26if you get so close to somebody you can actually miss the roost and i just think levi was trying to
27:31stay out of that um so we'll find out but i don't think that was him trying to actually pass michael
27:37that corner was way too tight that's tom vial's working on jaleek swole for fourth place now or no
27:41that's he's already passed well man what a moto for vial right near the section where he crashed earlier
27:49and at the top of your kitchen still going for it bottom boxes vial and uh harrop they're putting
28:00a lot broader behind them yeah very impressive ride by tom vial to get out um and pick that bike up
28:07because how the season's been going he could have easily been like man another race but this is a lot
28:12more fight um than we've seen all year long so good ride by him
28:19you know we talked so much about the supercross championship hangover we talked about it with
28:23cooper webb a lot in the 450 class vial did win a title in the most dramatic
28:28circumstances you can with hampshire hamacre and then he rolls by
28:33you think there's any of that residual because we haven't seen that vial we expected the first
28:37couple weeks outdoors no i i i don't i don't personally think it was that i mean i think the way that
28:42supercross if anything you might have been more shocked on how it happened and and so eventually the
28:48supercross hangover if he did have it it would have went away and we would have saw some rods like
28:51this as you mentioned earlier you don't know if you've ever seen him ride this aggressive especially
28:56like this year so yeah yeah i don't think the supercross it wasn't like he had a big points lead
29:01and he was more stressed on trying to um you know uh win that thing i think he knew he had to step up
29:06and ride and and get focused because i don't even know if he was the best guy in that championship at
29:11that moment until he was able to get it done so no supercross hang up here here i think he's just
29:16figured out whatever as he makes the pass she's going for it just putting that rear wheel into
29:21the ground and making the pass on her for fourth coming back yeah he's coming back that tom saw he
29:29was spinning up that bike and um michael was going to give him back so he had to cut him off so
29:34i love it but still a great ride um by michael haram here top five and said he was feeling good about
29:41this saying so yeah he's putting up right now still that fifth and six for he and swole
29:46a good run for the triumph team march banks master pole seventh and eighth have anchor ninth bowling
29:51tenth jt well guys i said i wanted to see some fight out of tom yeah i wanted to see him come back
29:58and show us some part show us the guy that wants to be in the fight for this championship the guy that
30:02won his first ever race at this racetrack and i think we've gotten now on the score sheet is going to
30:07show a fourth in emoto but i think we can all agree that this effort was much more than that and if
30:12tom vial wants to find any success in the rest of 2025 this is a great way to kick things off
30:18well to that end jt i want to ask you we were talking about jorge prado with the good qualifying in
30:21the morning obviously feeling good at this track but you said that could unlock something
30:26from all the tracks can the same thing apply to the 16th yeah absolutely absolutely and and again when
30:31you come into a championship you know when with tom vial especially with you know i don't think he
30:36thought hey deacon was going to run away from he felt like he was going to at least try to get some
30:40wins in here when things don't go right it's frustrating and when you go back to supercross maybe
30:45not going the way you want even though you won the championship you know you can ride better so to
30:49me i do feel like this will unlock um some things for tom to build or at least get up there and battle
30:55with hey deacon so we'll find out the same thing with jorge and all roads lead to the super motocross
31:02playoffs where vial and deacon have been strong in the past start september 6th charlotte north
31:07carolina then september 13th st louis missouri at the dome and then the smx world championship final
31:13for the second year in a row in las vegas that's where the champions are crowned tickets and information
31:19go to super motocross.com is there any time left vial is a massive gap to make up if he were to get to
31:32that kitchen and mosman battle this might be as far as he can go fourth place for the frenchman of the
31:39red bull ktm yeah you see him take a little look up there i think he's too far behind levi unless levi
31:45goes into uh you know shutdown mode but i mean i gotta give credit to michael bozman i feel like
31:51he might have broken levi and levi probably thought he had him once he attacked him once michael held on
31:57to that um just a lot of respect for him then the guy starts thinking about the next moto so good shout
32:02out about him all three of these guys yeah i love it man that's why you fight so hard he could have
32:08relented to kitchen geez two three times never let him by deegan's lead is 23 seconds almost right
32:16on cue we talked about gent lawrence with his most dominant ride of the year in the first 450 moto now
32:23deegan doing similar things as his mechanic brent duffy got the smile because this is exactly what they
32:28want to see with the big gap yeah i guarantee if you ask him honestly like hey how difficult was that
32:34race would be like well it's probably the easiest race i had all year you know because you you get
32:39the point to where you actually start you're able to rest because this track if you do find a flow
32:45it becomes i wouldn't say easy because southwick is a hard racetrack but just like that line right
32:50there how he's able to go to the inside well he doesn't have anybody near him so he's able to do that
32:55so he can take his time and miss all the bumps and i bet if you just watch hayden uh ride he's going
33:01to be pulling away from these guys doing it on the smoothest um smoothest line around this racetrack
33:05and the reason he's able to do that because he's so far up front so really easy race for him and all
33:10that damage was done the first three laps and deegan the real story for him was how large the points
33:17lead was early in the year because a lot of the contenders have had their problems while he's winning
33:20you got chance hymets the only rider to beat him this year out now on the torn acl kitchen had a dnf and a
33:26moto vial had a bad moto and then shibota who's second in points coming into this one first turn
33:32crash he's in 12th trying to track thrasher down might come down to the last lap to get to 11th place
33:40and that is that battle you're looking at the bottom that's shibota you see the red fenders of the honda
33:45with the yamaha of thrasher right ahead of him but only for 11th place shibota's got speed
33:51showing the results yeah it seems like we said a lot of that for a lot of these guys they got speed
33:57but the results aren't showing and especially here at south wake it makes it really hard to
34:01to get around when you come into back uh you get a bad start but yeah i mean i think with hayden we go
34:07back a couple weekends ago at thunder valley i mean he almost had a dnf that first moto so when you look
34:12at the championship there's a long way to go but he feels we see if he's riding and no mechanicals and he
34:20doesn't go down it's gonna be hard for anybody to beat him and that's that's any rider that's
34:25exactly where you want to be at that's all you can hope for it's just a chance if i put my best
34:29foot forward and you do you're gonna lose and i think he feels like that shibota made the move
34:34on thrasher and has now caught volant he might be able to get to 10th place from down to turn one now
34:40here's the strange thing about shibota he's won the second moto here at southwick the last two years
34:46but at a sixth in a first moto and a ninth in a first moto and now it's running 11th in a first
34:52moto so the problems early at southwick have killed his chances for an overall and a trap where he is
34:58very fast but look at this oh almost had to move on bowling yeah that was a good line by joe but again
35:04those smoother lines uh like i was saying they'll eventually pay us joe jumps in that soft part but
35:10in his stats he's right on point he's on this is average joe right right here first moto who kind
35:15of gives it back but you know again joe's been running really good all year long and anyone outside
35:20of hayden deegan it just seems like if you don't get that star this phil is too close everybody's too
35:25close to um really separate it and there it is he's made the pass on bowling so he's up to 10th
35:32maybe a 10-1 day in order for shibota after a 6-1 and a 9-1 here the last two years yeah i mean he
35:39ran at 216 on that last lap i mean the only one that was close to that was tommy out with a 216 as
35:46well but joe shimota just ran his fastest lap of the race that last lap and we saw him trying to get
35:51around make those paths so clearly he has the speed um he just kind of can't go down
35:56well james we started this moto symbolically talking about deegan versus jet lawrence is this
36:02on a collision course ironically or coincidentally if he wins this moto which it looks like he will
36:08he's going to tie lawrence for career moto wins in this class this is vial i think we might have lost
36:15wait a minute where is mozeman we are now seeing kitchen second and vial third
36:20and a bad lap time for mozeman at 223 yeah i just saw him pop up so he must have went down oh the last
36:29lap oh bummer
36:33well jt says he saw the move made by vial so not sure if he crashed or if he just lost the pace but
36:40either way it's going to cost him a moto podium mozeman will yield to both kitchen and vial no yielding here
36:46another checkered flag another moto win for hayden deegan
36:55what a journey to the podium for tom vial kitchen trying to spot him for second there he is on the 47.
37:06yeah good rob i believe i'm not sure what happened to michael it seems like that lap time was too
37:10close to be able to go down unless he just maybe tipped it or stalled it and ran off the racetrack but
37:14keep fighting to the end and he's good and that that might uh sit well to go down like he did to
37:21come back up and end up with third place just never know what happens in second moto yep they could be in
37:26position for the overall if there's a problem for this young man haven't been many lately
