00:00Ladies and gentlemen, from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, this is Showbox, the new generation.
00:11And nobody gonna give you nothing for nothing, you gotta work for what you get.
00:16You gotta get them shots off. Left hook, right hand.
00:20Both hands up, both hands up. Let's go.
00:22Go out there, focus on the job that has to be done.
00:27This is what it takes to be champs, this is what it takes, right here baby.
00:30Opportunity only enough, you boys, let's go.
00:48Tonight on Showbox, the new generation.
00:52We're at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:56Four emerging prospects put their futures on the line.
01:00Who moves up, who falls back?
01:02We'll soon find out in a boxing doubleheader on Showtime.
01:10Hello again everybody, I'm Nick Charles and welcome to the show.
01:14We have a two-fight card tonight that we believe represents everything Showbox is about.
01:19Here's the deal, four genuine prospects match tougher than they've ever been.
01:26High stakes, high reward for all four.
01:29Because whoever gets it done tonight in front of a national television audience could emerge as a solid contender tomorrow morning.
01:38Let me bring in my broadcast partner and pal, Steve Farrer, to talk about this truly exciting doubleheader.
01:45We have been waiting for this one, Steve.
01:47Let's talk main event first.
01:48Sakul Powell is making his fourth Showbox appearance.
01:51We've seen progress, we've seen promise from him.
01:53But he has never faced the kind of danger that he's going to be looking at in the presence of Archack Termal Exitian tonight.
02:02Nick, after I watched the movie Jaws, I was scared to go back into my bathtub, much less the ocean.
02:08And Sakul Powell is too young to have seen that movie, which is why he's willing to take on the shark attack of Archack Termal Exitian.
02:18Powell has fought tougher and tougher opposition.
02:22But I promise you one thing, tonight he's facing the most intimidating opponent of his career.
02:29Now, Sakul Powell has grown up on Showbox.
02:32He's getting better with each fight.
02:33He's a well-schooled Southpaw, and he's shown the ability to win by boxing or by blowing away his opponent.
02:40But there's been some vulnerability, or to put it another way, the shark smells blood.
02:45Powell's been dropped in two of his last five fights, and Archack is going for the KO.
02:50If Powell survives tonight, he'll be a fight or two away from the top ten.
02:55The shark is Archack Termal Exitian, who doesn't watch tapes of his opponents because his strategy never changes.
03:02Asked how he's going to fight Powell, Archack answered with one word, attack.
03:07Early in his career, Archack was so cocky, he didn't need confidence building.
03:11He needed confidence reduction.
03:13He got that when he lost to Nurhan Suleiman.
03:14Now he's facing the crossroads.
03:16Win, and he's once again a feared prospect.
03:19Lose, and he's just another fish out of water.
03:22Two fighters with knockout power and high aspirations meet in our ten-round junior middleweight main event later in the hour.
03:31First, though, a showdown at Super Middle, and you can hear the crowd getting stoked for this one.
03:37J. Don Codrington and Alan Green each puts his unbeaten record on the line and about scheduled for eight rounds.
03:46Codrington and Green, Steve, as you know, have been talking trash, have made this thing a grudge battle from the moment this match was made.
03:55This is a genuine rivalry.
03:57It's apparent, and it's really understandable because given the value of a win tonight, the pressure on both these guys is enormous.
04:04Nick, when I heard that J. Don Codrington, after only nine fights, was willing to take on Alan Green, I said, no way.
04:10And when I heard Alan Green was willing to take on Codrington, such a hyped prospect, I said, no way.
04:15You know what? Way. They've been eyeing each other since they were National Golden Glove champs together.
04:20Even the promoters have gotten into it. They have a side bet.
04:23And I'll tell you what, the winner is probably the best 168-pound prospect in the country.
04:28These two fighters are not lacking for confidence.
04:31I'm so confident that if I bet $100 on myself, I won back $160, so I wouldn't get moving my whole check away.
04:40Put your money where your mouth is, Alan Green.
04:42He's in way over his head. He's fought guys who are 154 pounds, slow guys who have about a $200 million to one chance of beating them.
04:50He's never really been in the ring with a live guy.
04:52So come fight time, when he gets in there with Alan Green, he'll find out that his whole career he's been out of touch with reality, and he's going to be in a world of shock.
05:03His attitude destiny. We'll find out who the stepping stone is here tonight, Green or Codrington.
05:11Let's meet both of them. Super middleweights now.
05:15Jadon Codrington, National Golden Gloves champion from Bridgeport, Connecticut.
05:19He fights now out of Queens, New York, turned pro a year and a half ago.
05:23Codrington's only 21 years old. He's fought almost exclusively in the Northeast, where he's caused a stir of excitement because of his KO ability.
05:31Codrington fights with intensity. He's got power.
05:34He's won all his nine professional fights by stoppage or KO.
05:38He's still developing, of course, but he already oozes confidence, as you heard moments ago.
05:44Steve, what do you see behind the numbers of Jadon Codrington?
05:46Well, Nick, Jadon's been acing his tests.
05:50In his last three bouts, Codrington has met increasingly tougher opposition.
05:53The results? KO2, KO1, and KO5.
05:57That's why he's moving up in class yet again.
06:00Solid pedigree.
06:01With only nine pro fights and 22 rounds of experience, it's easy to conclude that Codrington is being rushed.
06:07But he has tons of top-level amateur experience.
06:10At round shot, in his brief pro career, Codrington has stopped all nine of his opponents virtually when he wanted to.
06:15But if Codrington has to go long, will he get frustrated or run out of gas?
06:20Well, Alan Green's also unbeaten and the local favorite here tonight.
06:23He's from nearby Tulsa, Oklahoma, and won a National Golden Gloves Championship the same year Codrington did.
06:29But he did it at the higher weight of 178 pounds.
06:32They're fighting now at 168 tonight.
06:34Unlike his opponent tonight, Green turned pro immediately after winning the gloves.
06:38We featured him this past May when he took on Rocky Green, or Smith, in the same ring.
06:43Green dominated the fight wire to wire.
06:45He boxed and moved effectively, landed the harder shots, controlled the pace and distance.
06:50And that is critical for him.
06:52The fight was stopped in the seventh round when Smith suffered two gashes as a result of head clashes.
06:58And Green won a unanimous technical decision.
07:00In his last fight in August, Green won a 10-round unanimous decision to boost his record to 17-0 with 11 knockouts.
07:09Steve, take us behind Alan Green's numbers.
07:11Well, Green's not so green.
07:12Their experience favors him.
07:14He's fought 67 rounds as a pro to just 22 for Codrington.
07:18And his opponent's winning percentage is higher than the winning percentage of Codrington's opponents.
07:23Going long, Green's been past six rounds on three different occasions.
07:26And in his last fight, he went 10.
07:29Codrington has never been past five.
07:31Advantage Green.
07:32And okay is okay.
07:34More than half of Green's ballots have come here in his home state of Oklahoma.
07:38And he'll be energized by the crowd.
07:40Again, Advantage Green.
07:41And this crowd is set for a shootout between two young, unbeaten, super middleweight guns.
07:46Jadon Codrington and Alan Green getting ready to get it on here in Miami, Oklahoma.
07:51Let's go down to ring announcer Pat Harker.
07:56Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Buffalo Run Casino here in Miami, Oklahoma for Showbox, the next generation.
08:07This bout is brought to you by Dash DiBella Promotions and DiBella Entertainment in association with Tony Holden Productions,
08:15the Connecticut Defenders, Connecticut's hometown team, and Showtime.
08:19Tonight's bouts are sanctioned by the Oklahoma Professional Boxing Commission, Chairman Danny Hodge, Executive Director Joe Miller.
08:27Introducing to you the three judges scoring ringside, Jerry Griffin, Leo Johnson, and Oren Schellenberger.
08:37And the referee, Gerald Ritter.
08:43This bout is scheduled for eight rounds of boxing in the super middleweight division.
08:48Presenting first, fighting out of the red corner, wearing black trunks with gold trim and weighing in at 167 pounds.
08:59He is undefeated in 17 fights, 17 wins, no losses, with 11 wins coming by way of knockouts.
09:07From Tulsa, Oklahoma, please welcome Alan Sweetness Green.
09:23And fighting out of the blue corner, wearing blue trunks and weighing in at 167 pounds.
09:31And entering the ring with a perfect record, nine wins in nine fights, all by knockout from Bridsport, Connecticut.
09:42Now fighting out of Queens, New York.
09:45He is the second half of the Chin Checkers, J-Don, the Don, Cowdrington.
09:54Back up, please.
10:02Back up, please.
10:05Okay, fighters, we're scheduled for eight rounds, which obey my commands.
10:09Protect yourself at all times.
10:11Let's have a good, clean fight.
10:12Keep your punches up.
10:14Come out fighting at the bell.
10:16Both these fighters, as you can see, exceptionally tall for this weight class.
10:21Codrington, probably two or three pounds heavier now in the ring.
10:24He's probably about, I'd say, 175.
10:27ABC rules apply and include no three knockdown, no standing eight.
10:31Can't be saved by the bell in any round.
10:33And only the referee, Gerald Ritter, could stop the fight.
10:36We are getting it going here.
10:37Eight rounds and really are less.
10:40Alan Sweetness Green, black and gold.
10:42And in the blue, J-Don Codrington hasn't hit double digits as a pro.
10:47But nine out of nine, all KOs.
10:49And here's Green.
10:51He promised to go inside and he's stung.
10:53And he has rocked Codrington's world and left.
10:57And it's caught up.
10:58It's over.
11:00Over in 18 seconds.
11:04Alan Green shocks the world.
11:07Nick, he said he'd be aggressive from the start.
11:09I didn't believe him.
11:11He proved what he said he meant.
11:13He absolutely devoured the New Yorker, J-Don Codrington, on the ground.
11:18Now let's listen in.
11:19Get out of the way.
11:21Get out of the way.
11:23Get out of the way.
11:26Get out of the way.
11:27Get out of the way.
11:29You're gonna take care of him.
11:31Chaos, they need the doctors there and they're getting them and attending them to J-Don Codrington.
11:37Get out of the way, J-Don Codrington, who looks seriously hurt here.
11:41Come on, Doc.
11:42Nick, it's such a disgrace when a fighter is in need of medical care like Codrington.
11:48Look at him.
11:48And 400 people are in the ring.
11:50It's absolutely absurd.
11:51There should be better control.
11:52Get out.
11:53Get out.
11:55Get out.
11:57Get out.
11:59Get out.
12:01Gerald Ritter trying to keep the crowd at bay.
12:11Get these people out of here.
12:15Get this man out of here.
12:20Get out.
12:22Get out.
12:25It's okay, man.
12:28What do you need?
12:33Get these guys out of here, man.
12:35You're laying off.
12:36Move back.
12:37Get out of here, man.
12:39We're trying to help him.
12:40We're trying to help him.
12:42Now security enters a full scale rumble in the ring.
12:51Much of Codrington's gym came from Brooklyn here, and this is a bad showing for their fallen teammate.
13:06And the important central figure here is still lying on his back.
13:23They're taking the mouthpiece out of Jay Don Codrington.
13:25He never knew would hit him.
13:27Let's get some action.
13:28Let's watch.
13:29You're not here right away.
13:30Go in there.
13:31Go in there.
13:32Move back.
13:33I'm getting right there.
13:34What's up?
13:35Let's cover that guy.
13:36Somebody go over the f***** car and hit the head.
13:38He doing that.
13:39Get some lights out, man.
13:40That's a little bit happening.
13:42Hey!
13:43Back up!
13:44Everybody get back!
13:45Back up!
13:46I might fit the...
13:47Don't let him touch.
13:48Get out.
13:49Get out.
13:50Get outta there.
13:51Alright.
13:52Alright, we're cool, we're good.
13:53Alright, we're cool.
13:54Hey, you got a nasal airway?
14:12It's in that blue bag, Tracy.
14:14Stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down.
14:20Stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down, stay down.
14:30Well, the guarded good news is that Cottonwood wants to get off.
14:34Jay, no, Jay, stay down, stay down, stay down.
14:38He's all right, he'll be okay.
14:42Jay, you're not going nowhere.
14:48Jay, you're clear.
14:50Yeah, he's doing it.
14:52Jay.
14:54Jay.
14:56Jay, get him in the truck.
15:02Jay, let's take you to our truck, all right?
15:08I know, I know, man.
15:10Jay.
15:12I love you, Jay.
15:14I love you, Jay.
15:16I love you, Jay.
15:18I love you, Jay.
15:20I love you, Jay.
15:22I got him, I got him.
15:23I love you, Jay.
15:24Okay, Bob, it's okay.
15:26Now get in your scorecard.
15:28Jay, easy, Jay, easy.
15:30Easy, Jay.
15:32Easy, Jay.
15:34Relax, Jay.
15:36Relax, Jay.
15:38Relax, Jay.
15:39Relax, Jay.
15:40Relax, Jay.
15:41Relax, Jay.
15:42Come on, get him.
15:43Give him to her.
15:44Hey, don't move.
15:45Hey, don't move.
15:46Hey, don't move.
15:47Jay, don't move.
15:48Well, Kyle needs to plug it in.
15:50Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay.
15:52Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay.
15:54Hey, yo, you can't set the camera off, dawg?
15:57You can't set the camera?
15:58Yeah, they're working.
15:59Yo, have some respect, dawg.
16:00I'm laying on there.
16:01Just get on there.
16:02Hey, yo, have some respect, dawg.
16:04Have some respect, please.
16:05Hey, yo.
16:06I ain't got here.
16:07No, no.
16:08No, no.
16:09Have some, yo.
16:10Have some fucking respect.
16:11Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay, no, have some music.
16:13It's all right.
16:14He's there.
16:15Let me do it.
16:16He's there.
16:17It's all right.
16:18Who are you, man?
16:20It's all right.
16:21It's all right.
16:22Go ahead.
16:23I'll get you from it.
16:24Huh?
16:25I'll get you from it.
16:26All right.
16:27Hey, boss, man.
16:28Well, and here, chaos breaking out again.
16:32They want the cameras away, but anybody that cares
16:35about J. Don Codrington should get the hell out of the ring.
16:39They're doing no good.
16:42They've got medical people in there.
16:44We are cautiously optimistic
16:47that they have not certainly pronounced him well
16:52and have indicated that he's going to be okay.
16:55Obviously, it was frightening.
17:10A lot of bravado being spoken by the Codrington camp.
17:15Humiliating, but nonetheless, seriously frightening for them,
17:20and that should be paramount.
17:21Yeah, and the last punch he took, Nick,
17:24when he was pinned against the ropes,
17:26his hands were down, he got hit flush,
17:28and he just went limp right from that shot.
17:31Hey, don't move, J. Don't move, J. Don't move.
17:46We're informed that J. Don Codrington's eyes are open.
17:54He's attempting to talk.
17:56You can get these here and tell him that they steal.
18:03They steal.
18:04They steal.
18:05They steal.
18:06They steal for us, okay?
18:07They don't know what they need you to do.
18:10They don't know the arms.
18:11They're perfectly still.
18:12They're perfectly still.
18:14They're perfectly stills what we need you to do.
18:20They need you to stay.
18:21They're perfectly stills what we need you to do.
18:23They're perfectly stills what we need you to do.
18:24Now, this play, that's right.
18:25That's the defense right there.
18:27My defense left there.
18:28Here, on the board, we're gonna get you out of
18:2914 questions, right?
18:30Here we go.
18:31We're trying to steal.
18:31This is all up there, you guys.
18:32Don't get it.
18:33Okay, don't get it.
18:34Okay, don't do it.
18:34You can…
18:35Okay, Jay, Jay.
18:37Easy, baby.
18:39Okay, it's got to be this way.
18:41Come on, Jay.
18:43It's got to be this way.
18:45Hey, Robyn.
18:55So Jadon Cockington is conscious.
18:59Of course, you can only surmise that he always has been,
19:03but he was definitely out in terms of this fight
19:07before he even was in it.
19:09You never knew what hit him, Steve.
19:11Yeah, 18 seconds, it was over.
19:13And I can tell you this, from having, unfortunately,
19:15so much experience in these kind of things in boxing,
19:17that if they felt in any way, shape, or form,
19:20that he had to be rushed to the hospital for anything,
19:23he would have been out of this ring by now.
19:25And the fact that he hasn't been rushed into the ambulance,
19:28which, of course, is required at every fight
19:30in the United States,
19:31and the fact that he was not taken immediately to an ambulance
19:33is a very positive sign for him.
19:35And the good news is that he is,
19:37I think the number one thing they have to do now
19:40is keep him still and clear that ring.
19:44And now we see him being helped through the ropes along the apron.
19:48Lay perfectly still is what we need you to do.
19:50All right, guys, we're clear to move.
19:52Just lay perfectly still.
19:53Wow, they've braced his neck and immobilized his head.
20:00The fans, I'm looking at the faces here, I tell you,
20:10they're just stunned, absolutely stunned.
20:12All right.
20:25It was a shocking display.
20:27From the opening ball as Alan Green charged out of his corner
20:31and launched a ferocious assault on J. Don Codrington.
20:36Let's watch.
20:40It's the only punch that seems amiss.
20:43Left hook started it.
20:47And watch the gloves drop.
20:50Oh, that's a frightening, frightening scene.
20:57Well, Green misses that left hook, but he catches Codrington.
21:00A nice counterpunch coming up in this exchange.
21:04There it is. It's high on the head.
21:06And you can see Codrington's eyes are not focused.
21:09He's out now.
21:11Instinct keeps his hands up, but a few more shots.
21:15And there's the left hook that absolutely devastated him,
21:19fell down almost out of the ring.
21:20You know, it wasn't any great surprise
21:22that Gerald Ritter stopped it,
21:23but thank God he just moved in as quickly as he did.
21:26And here it is absolutely apparent
21:29that J. Don Codrington was out on his feet.
21:41Oh, that last left hook, Nick.
21:43Codrington was defenseless.
21:46And worse yet, his hands were down.
21:50That's why he got hit flush on the chin.
21:52And right now, the victory for Green, a great victory for him,
21:57but more importantly, the help of J. Don Codrington.
21:59Right. It's muted, but Alan Green moves to 16-0,
22:03and J. Don Codrington suffers his first loss in a frightening manner.
22:08Let's go up to Pat Harker.
22:13Ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for our winner.
22:15A big KO.
22:1618 seconds of the first round for Alan Sweetness Green.
22:23First of all, you all ready to say something.
22:26I hope the young man is all right,
22:27because I respect fighters and I love all fighters.
22:29I hope this guy comes out okay.
22:31And second of all,
22:32buy your cars from Charlie Cheek Alamo in Miami, Oklahoma.
22:37Yeah.
22:38I don't really want to comment.
22:39I don't think the second part was necessary.
22:40No.
22:41Right.
22:42The second part, cheapened the first part.
22:43Yeah, it really diminished the concern that Alan Green spoke of for his fallen victim.
23:00And we will be, of course, watching the medical progress of J. Don Codrington,
23:05who was taken out of the ring on a stretcher,
23:08vanquished after 18 blinding seconds here in Miami, Oklahoma.
23:13The winner, Alan Green, as decisive as it comes.
23:23And coming up next here on Showbox,
23:26Sekou Powell's unbeaten, but can he stay that way?
23:31Hard-hitting Arshak.
23:33Telamek Zetayan thinks not.
23:36It's Powell against Termalek Zetayan in a junior middleweight class schedule for 10 rounds or less.
23:44A reminder that boxing's in the spotlight again tomorrow night here on Showtime.
23:47We've got another explosive doubleheader featuring Jeff Lacy's fourth title defense
23:52when he takes on rugged Scott Pemberton on Showtime Championship boxing.
23:56Steve Albert caught up with Lacy this week.
23:59The most exciting moment in boxing, if not all sports, is the knockout punch.
24:04And tomorrow night, Showtime delivers two title fights featuring four knockout specialists.
24:10Joining us now is the star of these festivities, power-punching super middleweight champ Jeff Left Hook Lacy.
24:16And Jeff, your opponent, Scott Pemberton, like you, a big puncher.
24:21What type of fight are you expecting?
24:23I think it's going to be a very exciting fight for the boxing fans, my boxing fans and his boxing fans.
24:27And it's going to be two guys coming forward and with punching power.
24:31I mean, that makes it a spectacular fight.
24:33How do you adapt your style to a power puncher like Scott Pemberton?
24:38Well, being that he's tall, I like tall, linky, hard punchers because that gives me a chance to get inside
24:46and really work my strengths and take his away because usually taller fighters, they can't punch on the inside.
24:52So I'm going to work that.
24:54Are you looking to make a statement, in other words, looking to take him out early?
24:57Of course, being the two styles that's meeting in the ring, there's a very good chance of not making 12 rounds.
25:04All right, Jeff.
25:05Thanks for joining us.
25:06Best of luck.
25:08Jeff Left Hook Lacy will be expecting a pair of hard-hitting, action-packed fights.
25:12It's Rafael Marquez versus Silence Mabuza and Jeff Left Hook Lacy versus Scott Pemberton tomorrow at 9 p.m.
25:19on Showtime Championship Boxing.
25:22And so Lacy hopes to make it a short and spectacular evening tomorrow night on Showtime Championship Boxing.
25:31Steve, I want to talk about this fourth title defense of Jeff Lacy.
25:34Scott Pemberton's a puncher, but I don't think he out-slugs Jeff Lacy.
25:38Can he, as he's been talking about, out-box the champion?
25:41Nick, the fighters who have done best against Jeff Left Hook Lacy have been the fighters who have stood there and fought him.
25:48Omar Shaikh, Donnell Wiggins, Sid Vanderpool.
25:51Pemberton's a puncher.
25:53By talking about boxing, I get the impression he's happy just to get the title fight.
25:57If he wants to win the title fight, be a puncher.
26:00Go for the knockout.
26:01Maybe you get knocked out in doing so at least to give yourself a chance to win.
26:04So it's a Showtime Championship boxing doubleheader coming up from Lake Tahoe, Nevada tomorrow night
26:09when Jeff Lacy makes the fourth defense of that super middleweight title against Scott Pemberton.
26:13Also a dynamite Vantamoyd matchup between IBF champ Rafael Marquez and unbeaten Silence Mabuza.
