00:30The following is a presentation of HBO Sports.
01:00From Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, it's HBO's Boxing After Dark.
01:26Tonight, it's one fight only.
01:28Don't put the remote down, featuring an up-and-coming fighter you don't want to miss.
01:3222-year-old rising star Victor Ortiz moves up the 140-pound ladder to fight the highly regarded Marcos Maidano of Argentina.
01:40It's two engaging fighters hoping to continue the tradition of non-stop action,
01:45which has been a hallmark of Boxing After Dark.
01:48Hello again, everyone. So glad you could join us for HBO's Boxing After Dark.
01:54I'm Bob Hoppe.
01:55You don't want to miss this 140-pound showdown between Victor Ortiz and Marcos Maidano.
02:00Ortiz, 22 years of age, fighting out of Oxnard, California.
02:03A long road to this point in his career.
02:06We'll tell you more about that in just a little bit.
02:07Marcos Maidano's not a blue blood either.
02:10He's one of eight kids from Argentina who's scrapped and clawed his way
02:13and is fighting in the United States for the first time in his life.
02:16Joining me here at ringside is HBO Boxing Analyst Max Kellerman.
02:20Max, this fight is in the 140-pound weight class.
02:23Where does Victor Ortiz fit in this talented landscape?
02:25Let's take a look at the junior welterweights.
02:28First, the various belt holders, including Katelnik,
02:33who Maidano just lost a controversial decision to.
02:35Maidano's only loss.
02:36Tim Bradley, the most highly regarded of the belt holders
02:39and the most interesting boxer of the bunch.
02:42And Juan Urengo, we saw lose to welterweight belt holder Andre Berto
02:46here on Boxing After Dark not long ago.
02:48And here is the real champ of the division, the lineal champ, Manny Pacquiao.
02:52Why is he the lineal champ?
02:53He knocked out Ricky Hatton, who still has a lot of star power.
02:57Nate Campbell, a top lightweight, now campaigning at 140 pounds.
03:01And finally, Victor Ortiz, who may have the most star potential of them all.
03:06Well, Victor Ortiz is coming off an impressive victory here on HBO's Boxing After Dark.
03:11Earlier this year, took on Mike Arnudis.
03:13Arnudis had never been stopped in his career.
03:16It set up to be a pretty tough fight.
03:18This was on March the 7th in California,
03:21but Ortiz went right to work in round number two.
03:24He landed 11 of his 15 power shots,
03:28and he totally dismantled Arnudis,
03:31stopping him in just the second round.
03:33Very impressive.
03:34It was his 19th stoppage, 24th win of his career.
03:38Max, when you take a look at what he did against Arnudis,
03:41are you a believer in Ortiz?
03:42Well, I mean, Victor Ortiz is such an overwhelming offensive force
03:46that even world-class opposition has so far offered zero resistance.
03:53Eventually, maybe tonight, Ortiz will be tested,
03:56and then we'll find out how good he really is.
03:59Until then, he really does look really good,
04:03and it's hard not to be excited about this guy, Bob.
04:06And he's only 22 years of age.
04:07We shift our gears and welcome in Hall of Fame trainer
04:10and HBO Boxing analyst,
04:12Emmanuel Stewart, on loan from Championship Boxing.
04:15Manny, good to see you.
04:16Look at this crowd here at Staples.
04:18This place is packed.
04:19The sport of boxing is looking for an American star, a young star.
04:24Can Victor Ortiz fill that void?
04:27Yes.
04:28Victor Ortiz is very refreshing to the sport.
04:30He's everything.
04:31He's like the total package.
04:33And first of all, I like to say that he had a good amateur background,
04:35when I find it very important whether you win the Olympics
04:37or go to the Olympics or not.
04:39But he's good-looking, charismatic.
04:41And the one thing I like about him more than all of it,
04:43he can fight.
04:44He's very compact with his punches, very accurate.
04:47He seems to love what he's doing.
04:49And after speaking to him and learning about his background,
04:52he has so much character.
04:53As a matter of fact, that's one of the interesting things
04:55about both guys in this fight tonight.
04:57Both guys have had tremendous tough backgrounds
04:59and a lot of character.
05:01Well, you know, you mentioned Ortiz and his character.
05:03He might be 22 years of age,
05:05but he's lived the life of a 50-year-old.
05:07To get to this point in his career at 24-1-1 and 19 knockouts,
05:12to play in the Staples as the headliner,
05:14is one of the great achievements for a young man
05:16whose path has not always been paved with gold.
05:19It's Saturday in Ventura, California,
05:32Victor Ortiz's adopted hometown.
05:34And the abundant surf brings a welcome break from training.
05:39It's an inviting scene for a man who grew up here,
05:42in this trailer.
05:431,300 miles away on the outskirts of Garden City, Kansas.
05:49But the challenges of place are only a small part of this story.
05:53I was 7 years old, and I went to school that day,
05:56you know, like a normal day.
05:58Came home, and I watched the whole episode of The Power Rangers.
06:03And my dad got home, and I was like,
06:05whoa, this is really weird.
06:06Because by that time, I'd be in the gym,
06:08and my mom never came home.
06:11So, I don't know.
06:13She just never said anything and just left.
06:16So, that was her way of leaving.
06:19My dad stuck around for the next four years, I believe.
06:22He'd never said anything.
06:23He just cried, and then pretty soon he was just,
06:25he forgot he had kids.
06:27There was no food on the table, electricity gone.
06:30My dad was nowhere to be found.
06:32During this time, Victor's father says he was traveling for work.
06:35Orteez felt like he and his three siblings were abandoned once again.
06:40The first time I saw my dad in a while was,
06:43I got in a fight at Kenneth Henderson Middle School.
06:46And I broke this kid's teeth, which I'm very sorry for.
06:52When they arrested me and took me to the station and stuff,
06:55they had me handcuffed to this, like, bench.
06:59Next thing you know, I see my dad coming in.
07:02He tried to play the innocent part.
07:04Victor, oh, I haven't seen you.
07:06You ran away.
07:07I'm like, I didn't run away, dude.
07:09I was like, I've been where I'm supposed to be.
07:11I've been doing my homework.
07:13I was like, man, you need to get the hell away from me.
07:16Step the fuck away from me.
07:19I just told, all the officers are like, calm down, Victor.
07:22He's just trying to be there.
07:23I'm like, you know what?
07:24Fuck you too for believing this piece of shit.
07:26I haven't seen this guy in fucking years.
07:28And you're going to come in here acting like you're innocent
07:31and you're going to fucking lie about it?
07:33I told my dad that right there, in front of all kinds of police officers.
07:36I was like, I'd rather go to a foster home than me here.
07:39He always told me he doesn't need a mother,
07:41but I always told him he was my son.
07:42Sharon Ford was a tutor at Victor's local boxing gym in Garden City.
07:48She and her husband, John, offered to take Victor in.
07:51He had been raising himself with his siblings,
07:54and he wasn't used to being a child.
07:57I was just so used to being treated like dirt
08:01that I wouldn't expect anybody else to treat me like I was anything.
08:06So they definitely brought some light into me.
08:08With the Fords' guidance, Ortiz continued his focus on boxing,
08:13giving him one constant in an ever-changing childhood.
08:17I think boxing just gave me a whole other perspective to life.
08:22Like, you know, I just became really hungry,
08:23but not only to show anybody else anything anymore.
08:27It's more of, hey, I need to really get together
08:30and show myself that I am going to do something with myself.
08:33At the age of 15, Ortiz convinced the Fords
08:37to let him move to Colorado and later California
08:40so he could work with some of the top boxing trainers in the country.
08:44Pretty soon I start winning national title after national title,
08:48and the world is, I just shocked the world of boxing.
08:50If not, I shocked my family for sure.
08:53I beat their odds.
08:55Earlier this month,
08:56Mrs. Ford took us back to where Ortiz grew up.
09:00The trailer had recently been destroyed by a fire,
09:02but more surprising than the images
09:04was who showed up while we were there.
09:07Hi, Vic Senior!
09:09How are you?
09:11I'm fine.
09:11What are you doing?
09:12Fine!
09:13Victor and his father haven't talked in years,
09:15but his dad says he follows his son's career,
09:18albeit at a vast distance.
09:21When was the last time you talked to him?
09:23On Victor?
09:24Never.
09:25Have you ever seen any of his professional fights?
09:27Yeah, yes, I know.
09:29He's got a lot of, he's still a professional man,
09:32and he's still in a feeling.
09:34He's not lost yet.
09:36He make, in 27, that month,
09:40he fight us again with somebody from Colombia.
09:44Make all kind of money.
09:46It's for a champion in the world.
09:48Our advice to Victor on his parents are,
09:52as a child, you'll never understand
09:54what the adults were thinking or doing,
09:56and until you walk in their shoes,
09:59you just need to do the best that you can do
10:03for yourself to get by.
10:06You're supposed to be protected and loved by a parent
10:09until you're an adult.
10:12But yeah, I didn't have that.
10:14I was, you know, abandoned by my mother.
10:17A few years later, my father.
10:19You know, you end up like a dog, you know,
10:20just roaming around,
10:21trying to see what happens from day to day.
10:23Here on the California coast,
10:26Ortiz tries to put his childhood behind him,
10:29at least on his days off.
10:31But when he's in the ring,
10:32it's his past life that continues to fuel this one.
10:36You know, I'm very mellow and calm.
10:39You put me in the ring,
10:40I'm this different person.
10:42I can't even recognize myself.
10:43I mean, all that rage just kind of kicks into mode,
10:46and I don't know, it's weird.
10:48But I like it, you know, it's like my high.
10:53Well, while Victor feels abandoned
10:56by both his father and his mother,
10:58his father insists that he was traveling for work,
11:01and he says during that time,
11:03he was at the home taking care of Victor and his siblings.
11:07It truly is an amazing story,
11:09and it is amazing that the 22-year-old Victor Ortiz
11:11has been able to stay on the straight and narrow.
11:14A fascinating story.
11:15But tonight, he steps into the ring against
11:17one of the most qualified opponents
11:18he's ever been in against, Marcos Maidana.
11:21He's 25 years of age from Argentina.
11:23He had a chance to fight for a belt earlier this year
11:26in Germany, taking on Andreas Kotelnik.
11:30And in this fight, the key for Maidana was to stay busy.
11:36He threw over 1,200 punches in this fight,
11:38according to CompuBox.
11:39That's over 100 punches per round.
11:41But the sharp punches of Kotelnik
11:43proved to be the difference,
11:44although Maidana had his moments in this fight.
11:48When the judges' scorecards were settled, though,
11:50it was Kotelnik coming away
11:51with a very narrow, controversial split-decision victory,
11:56fighting in Germany, his adopted hometown.
12:00Maidana felt that maybe it was a little bit
12:01of a home cooking.
12:03We're rejoined here at ringside by Manny Stewart.
12:05Manny, you know, you take a look at a guy like Maidana,
12:08and he was in a fight in a big circumstance
12:10in Kotelnik's backyard in Germany,
12:13lost a split decision,
12:15finds himself in that same environment tonight.
12:18Can that be a help or a detriment?
12:20I think it would be a help.
12:21In fact, he said himself during the fighters' meeting
12:23that he is so fortunate to be getting
12:26another championship fight
12:27after his last fight was for a championship,
12:30and he lost the fight in Germany,
12:31felt because of politics,
12:33but therefore he said he cannot afford to lose again.
12:36It's very unusual to get these two opportunities
12:38back-to-back,
12:39and he does not want to go back to Argentina as a loser.
12:42Well, he's going to get an opportunity tonight
12:43against Victor Ortiz as we shift gears back
12:46to Max Kellerman.
12:47And Max, very relaxed.
12:49He says he learned from that experience.
12:51Can he really carry, though,
12:52what he brought in that fight to this fight
12:54and be even better tonight?
12:55Well, in his mind,
12:56and in the minds of many who saw the Ketelnik fight,
12:59Maidana is an undefeated fighter,
13:01and he's given every indication
13:02that he's going to fight
13:03with the pride of an undefeated fighter.
13:05In other words,
13:06Victor Ortiz isn't going to be able to win
13:09by breaking Maidana's will,
13:10by convincing Maidana that Maidana can't win.
13:13No, Ortiz is going to have to separate Maidana
13:17from his senses,
13:18something that Ortiz specializes in,
13:21luckily for Ortiz.
13:22But if Ortiz can't separate Maidana
13:24for his senses,
13:26tonight gets really interesting
13:27because Maidana can punch,
13:31and Ortiz, like many up-and-coming fighters,
13:34the questions remain
13:35about how well he can take a punch.
13:38Let's take a look at the take
13:39of the tale of the tape
13:41for tonight's bout
13:42between Victor Ortiz and Marcos.
13:44Maidana, Ortiz, 22 years of age.
13:46See both fighters making
13:47the 140-pound weight limit
13:49on our unofficial scales.
13:50Ortiz is rehydrated up to 152 pounds.
13:54Maidana to 149.
13:56Time for the rules
13:57with our unofficial ringside scorer,
13:58Harold Letterman.
13:59The Victor Ortiz-Marcos-Maidana fight
14:02is scheduled for 12 rounds
14:03using the Unified Rules
14:05of the Association of Boxing Commissions.
14:07There is no three-knockdown rule.
14:09Only the referee can stop the fight.
14:11A case of cut is caused
14:12by an accidental headbutt.
14:14We go to the scorecards
14:15if the four rounds have been completed,
14:16and you cannot be saved by the bell
14:18in any round,
14:19including the 12th and final round.
14:29Entering the arena,
14:31Marcos Maidana.
14:3525-year-old Marcos Maidana
14:45fighting for the first time
14:46in the United States.
14:47Spanning 19 bouts in Argentina,
14:50six in Germany,
14:50one in Panama.
14:52He's been in the United States
14:53for the last five weeks.
14:55Your professional opinion,
14:57enough time for him
14:57to get acclimated
14:58and make the necessary adjustments
15:00to fight Ortiz?
15:01I think it's enough time.
15:02Five weeks,
15:03I think it's an adequate time.
15:04Plus, he did trade,
15:05as he said,
15:06for about four weeks prior to that.
15:08Plus, he had a great fight
15:09with Kotelnik,
15:11which was a really long-distance
15:12trail-round fight.
15:14At least he's trading over here
15:15at the same time zone
15:16in Las Vegas
15:17where he's fighting over here
15:18and not trading in Florida
15:19or New York.
15:20So, time-wise
15:21and acclimation,
15:22everything,
15:23I think, is perfect.
15:24Goes by the nickname
15:25of El Chino.
15:26He and his brother,
15:27when they were kids,
15:28would dub that nickname
15:29because his friend said
15:30looked as he might have
15:31some Chinese blood in him.
15:34He's a very personable young man,
15:35quiet Max,
15:36but very respectful of Ortiz,
15:38saying,
15:38I gotta watch out
15:39in the early rounds.
15:40Well, he says
15:41he's gonna start slow,
15:43but when I asked Miguel Diaz now,
15:45his trainer,
15:45how he's gonna fight him,
15:47Miguel Diaz said
15:48he's gonna go right at him.
15:49So,
15:50we'll see how he starts the fight,
15:52but at some point,
15:53Maidana has to fight aggressively.
15:55That's the nature
15:56of the way he fights.
15:57his opponent,
16:05Victor Ortiz.
16:16Victor Ortiz told us yesterday
16:18with the passing of Michael Jackson,
16:21the king of pop,
16:22who performed his last rehearsal
16:24here Wednesday night
16:26before passing away.
16:27He was gonna dedicate
16:28his ring walk
16:29to Michael Jackson,
16:31popping to the tune
16:33to the king of pop.
16:35Manny,
16:35when you take a look
16:36at Victor Ortiz,
16:37he's got that thousand-watt smile.
16:39He's got all the talent,
16:40but from a technical standpoint,
16:42why is he so thrilling?
16:45I think he has
16:46an exciting style of fighting,
16:48and what I like about him
16:49also is the fact,
16:50even though,
16:50as Max said earlier,
16:51he's knocked out
16:52so many of these top-notch guys
16:54so easy,
16:55when he did have to go
16:56a long, durable fight
16:57with Emmanuel Plotty,
16:59which is very tough
16:59when you fight
17:00those type guys
17:01where you have to throw
17:0210 punches to one.
17:03He survived
17:04and scored a knockout
17:05in that back of 10th round,
17:06so I feel very good
17:08that he's gonna be
17:08a great fighter
17:09when it's a short fight
17:10or a long fight.
17:11Max,
17:12you know,
17:12it's appropriate
17:13that he's coming out
17:14to Thriller
17:14because Chris John
17:16and Rocky Juarez
17:17are supposed to fight tonight.
17:18A lot of Indonesian population
17:20in Los Angeles.
17:21John had to pull out
17:22because of a blood disorder.
17:24He's okay.
17:25But the thrilling part here
17:26is that Ortiz
17:27has this crowd
17:27on their heels.
17:29Or even that there's
17:30a crowd at all.
17:31After the cancellation
17:32of the John Juarez fight,
17:34the thought was,
17:36you know,
17:36how many people
17:37can Ortiz draw
17:38to the Staples Center
17:39as a headline?
17:40And the answer is
17:41a lot of people.
17:43This place is not
17:44to capacity,
17:45but there's a good crowd here.
17:47Speaks to the point
17:48that Maddie made
17:49that maybe Victor Ortiz
17:50can fill that void
17:52for the boxing population
17:54in the United States.

20:17Argentina.
20:19Marcos,
20:21El Chino,
20:22Milano.
20:25Milano.
20:30His opponent

20:32in the red corner.
20:33He steps in
20:33clad in green trunks
20:35with white trim.
20:37He tipped the scales

20:54Puro Oxnard,
20:57California.
20:59This is
21:01Victor
21:02Ortiz.
21:06Marco.
21:18Marco.
21:20Passa para acá, Marco.
21:22Okay, muchachos.
21:23Ya les he las instrucciones
21:24hacia abajo.
21:25Huesito aquà para arriba.
21:26Los trunks están
21:27un poquito alto para los dos.
21:28Asà que dense la mano
21:28y buena suerte los dos, eh.
21:30Perfect.
21:30Everything about
21:34Victor Ortiz
21:35so far
21:35in his young
21:36professional career
21:37says
21:38too good to be true.
21:41At the end of the night,
21:42are we going to
21:43still be saying
21:44he be true?
21:46Or is
21:46Maidana going to
21:47find some things out
21:48that we do not know
21:49yet, not,
21:50do not yet know
21:51about Victor Ortiz?
21:53Ortiz told us
21:54the last time
21:55that he was a headliner
21:56for anything
21:57is when he sang
21:57Old Christmas Tree
21:59at a school play
22:01in grammar school.
22:02Ortiz in the white
22:03and green,
22:04Maidana in the red.
22:05Matty,
22:06what are you looking
22:06for early?
22:07Well, you know,
22:08Maidana seems
22:09to be a little
22:10uncomfortable
22:10up here
22:11studying his
22:11body language
22:12so I would have
22:12thought that
22:12if he comes out
22:14he could,
22:15if he got caught
22:16at least I'm saying
22:16by Ortiz
22:17he would be hurt
22:18early because
22:19he's very nervous
22:20but the way
22:21he's fighting
22:21looks just the opposite.
22:23Ten first round
22:24knockouts
22:25for Maidana.
22:26Remember,
22:2619 of his bouts
22:27have happened
22:28in his native
22:29country of Argentina.
22:30Five first round
22:31knockouts for Ortiz,
22:3211 of his 19
22:33in the first two rounds.
22:35If this is Maidana's
22:36idea of starting
22:37cautiously
22:38I can't wait
22:38until he gets heated up.
22:45Great left
22:45from Ortiz
22:46then shoots left
22:47to the body.
22:48Good left hand
22:48by Maidana.
22:50Both guys come out
22:51fairly dry.
22:51Neither one of them
22:52has really sweated
22:53and warmed up
22:53like most fighters do
22:54especially with a fight
22:55of this magnitude
22:56but I'm a little bit
22:58surprised that Maidana's
22:59right hand
22:59is much shorter
23:00than it appeared
23:01when I saw the films
23:02in fighting Kutelnik.
23:03It was a looping right
23:04but right now
23:05and the left hook
23:06that he's landed
23:07on Ortiz
23:09is a shot
23:09that Southpaw's
23:10never looked for
23:11when they're moving in.
23:19Good stuff
23:20from Maidana
23:21early here in the fight.
23:22Round number one
23:23just under way.
23:24Yeah but Ortiz
23:25seems to be steady
23:26and trying to figure
23:27him out.
23:32Ortiz got caught
23:33leaning
23:33then he landed
23:34a right and a left
23:35combination.
23:37Counter right
23:38and then Ortiz
23:39drops Maidana.
23:40Four, five,
23:43five, six,
23:44seven,
23:45eight,
23:47eight,
23:47eight,
23:47eight,
23:47eight,
23:49eight,
23:49eight,
23:50eight,
23:50eight,
23:51eight,
23:52eight,
23:54eight,
23:54eight,
23:55eight,
23:56eight,
23:57eight,
23:57eight,
23:59and Dante.
23:59And his legs
24:00are very shaky, Bob.
24:00Yes, he is a little shaky.
24:02He seems to be
24:04the worse for wear.
24:05He doesn't seem
24:06to be as stable as.
24:07He needs to hold
24:08or this could be
24:10very bad news
24:11for Ortiz.
24:12Ortiz was down
24:14in the Isola's fight
24:15back last year.
24:17Got up and finished him off
24:19but Victor Ortiz
24:20is in trouble.
24:21Can Maidana finish him, Ortiz, short left?
24:25Well, a bootleg about Volk out of the punch.
24:37What a round one. Both men have been down.
24:42Ortiz holding on with that left hand.
24:45Well, I think that's smart to try to smother this guy
24:47and not give him in his face while he's hurt.
24:51He's got the right hand.
24:54Final seconds of round one.
24:57And every punch this round has been a powerful one.
25:00What a round!
25:11Victor, put your hands down. Don't bring them down, Victor.
25:14Come on, no errors. No errors, Victor. You can do it.
25:20You can do it. You can do it.
25:22Don't bring your hands down. Close up your defense.
25:29Come up. Come up. You've got to come up.
25:33Come on. You've got to come up.
25:35Get some water.
25:38That's it.
25:42Here you see the first knockdowns come in is when Maidana was coming
25:45and caught with a right hook that he didn't see
25:47because he was delivering his own punch.
25:49And then you see it's very similar coming in.
25:51You see Maidana land a short, straight right hand
25:55and he had Artes with Artes with Thorn.
25:58Another right hook, which was the same punch
26:00that he scored his knockdown with.
26:02Ortiz landed 16 of his 42 power connects.
26:05Maidana 17 of 61.
26:07Each man was down in round number one.
26:10And both men, particularly Ortiz, got up off the canvas,
26:14not from flash knockdowns,
26:16but when it looked like their nights might be over.
26:19But Maidana seems to be a little bit slower
26:22still in his delivery of his punches.
26:24Even though he's a tough guy,
26:25Artes seems to be crisper and a little faster with his shots.
26:28All right, Manny, you're in the camp of Ortiz right now.
26:31Let me ask you, what would be your game plan here
26:33in round number two to start?
26:34Well, there's not too much more he can do
26:36except what he's doing.
26:37I would generally, if you did get hurt, tie him up.
26:39Don't try to come up because you can't see punches that good
26:41and just keep doing what you're doing.
26:43What about if you're on the other side, the Maidana camp?
26:45Well, Maidana just got nothing to lose.
26:47All he can do is just do what he's doing,
26:48just come out and brawl
26:49and hope that he can land the shot
26:51because he doesn't have the still boxing skills
26:53of Ortiz or the speed.
26:55There's that looping right hand.
26:57That's what he's got to do.
26:59Ortiz Datak dipped away from another right hand.
27:15He's got nothing to lose.
27:16He's got nothing to lose.
27:17He's got nothing to lose.
27:18He's got nothing to lose.
27:19He's got nothing to lose.
27:20Neither man is really bothered with a jab.
27:24Long power shots.
27:25Good left hand on the body.
27:26What jab?
27:27Exactly.
27:28No jab.
27:29If someone was keeping the jab count tonight,
27:32they would have an easy job.
27:34Is that the kind of thing, though,
27:43that could sort of tip the scale in your balance
27:45if one of these guys decide to use a little bit of the jab
27:48and try to set something up?
27:49Yep.
27:50No one is shooting any jab.
27:51Everything is a power shot here.
27:53Don't go, Victor.
27:55Saca la mano, Marco.
27:56Saca la derecha.
27:57Manos libres, manos libres.
28:00Don't go.
28:01Saca, déjalo in, Marco.
28:02Saca la mano, VÃctor.
28:07McDonough walked into a shot.
28:08It looked like their heads even came together.
28:10Yep.
28:11Referee, Rolakaya, seems checking
28:14to make sure there's no blood.
28:20Right hook to the body by Ortiz.
28:23Ortiz tried to load up a power shot.
28:25Maidana...
28:26Kevin, right hand!
28:27Drops Maidana!
28:30That came after Ortiz looked badly hurt
28:33against the ropes.
28:34Siete, levantate.
28:35Echa!
28:36Come here, come here, come here.
28:37Come here.
28:38I think that's it.
28:39It looks like in his manner,
28:40he just, uh, be quick.
28:42Here comes Ortiz,
28:43trying to finish it here in round two.
28:45He's got power with both hands.
28:47Ten seconds to go.
28:48Steps in with a lock.
28:49Hooks to the body.
28:50Maidana trying to fight for him.
28:51Maidana trying to fight back.
28:52He goes down again.
28:53Three, two, one, two.
28:55Can I be safe on the bell in the end round?
28:58He's up and he's getting his count.
29:00Oscar Delahoy is motioning to Ortiz,
29:03pointing to his head saying,
29:05Be smart from ringside.
29:06De La Hoya Ortiz's promoter.
29:15Straight up your legs.
29:16Straight up your legs.
29:17Straight up your arms.
29:18Gino.
29:19Too tight.
29:20Loosen up.
29:21Loosen up, Gino.
29:23Too tight.
29:24Two wound up.
29:25Breathe deeply.
29:27Slowly, slowly bend your waist.
29:29He's throwing the round punches.
29:30Go under it.
29:31Throws up.
29:32Close up your defense.
29:33Again on the inside.
29:34Short.
29:35Short punches.
29:36Don't throw from far away.
29:38Man of the knockdowns.
29:40Here you go.
29:41You see the knockdown.
29:42And the knockdowns are always coming
29:43because both guys are so aggressive
29:45that they're going in with no mindset
29:47on defense at all.
29:49And that's why these knockdowns,
29:51every one of them that's happening
29:52just as the guys are coming in throwing punches,
29:54not while they're trying to get away from punches.
29:57It is amazing.
29:58We've had four knockdowns in two rounds of boxing.
30:04And both men have hit the deck.
30:06Yeah.
30:07And they were serious knockdowns.
30:08Not off balance.
30:09According to CompuBox, Ortiz landed 21 of 39
30:13in round two.
30:14They were all power shots at 54%.
30:18Each man was down once in round one.
30:21Maidana down twice in round 10.
30:24Seems like Ortiz is trying to box
30:39maybe just a little bit more this round.
30:41Yeah.
30:42You know, he's got to respect the puncher power.
30:44Another guy doesn't have that many much boxer skills.
30:46He's a much more cruel fighter.
30:48And as the fight drives on,
30:49his punches are becoming wider.
30:50And sloppier.
30:51Where Ortiz's punches are still short and active.
30:54So it would be wise for him to back in a technical fight
30:56at this point right there
30:57and pick his punches very carefully.
30:59And not get too careless.
31:00Good right hand, though, by Maidana.
31:03I mean, Ortiz made a few moves
31:04that looked a little defensive from long range.
31:07Got hit right on the chops by a good right hand.
31:10But responds, you see Ortiz's temperament.
31:12When he gets hit, when he gets hurt,
31:14he responds by attacking.
31:15Maybe not smart, but it's fan friendly.
31:18Protect yourself at all times, sir.
31:21That's John Hurt Ortiz.
31:24You know, before the fight, I would say that both of these guys
31:40have actually had a lot of drama that they've had in their lives
31:43that made them create a lot of character,
31:45and it's coming through in the fight.
31:46They both are fighting that way,
31:47with guys who are determined to win this fight regardless
31:50at all costs.
31:51It has no fear of the cost of experiences
31:53they've had in their social and private life.
31:56Yep, you saw the feature on Ortiz.
31:58Maidana started boxing at the age of 15,
32:01walked to the gym, walked by one one day,
32:03said, I'll give it a try.
32:05Worked on a farm as a kid.
32:06Youngest of eight brothers and sisters.
32:13And Maidana just missed with the counter right.
32:15Got the shoulder of Ortiz.
32:17There have been whispers in boxing
32:18about Ortiz's chin recently.
32:21And we've seen him down and badly hurt in this fight,
32:24albeit against a good puncher.
32:25But there's never been any whispers about his heart,
32:28and you can see why.
32:30Clearly, Ortiz has a lot of heart.
32:33It goes back to his life.
32:39He's fought to survive since he was a kid.
32:44He takes it into the ring with him every time.
32:54The punches of Maidana is getting slower and wider now,
32:57even though he's punching with a lot of power.
32:59But, you know, it seems like at this point,
33:01Ortiz can see his punches and kind of adjust
33:03and prepare for him a little better.
33:05Upset here in round number three.
33:09No knockdowns.
33:11Folks, mark your calendars.

34:04live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
34:11We get set for the start of round number four.
34:13Let's check in as we get ready for round number four
34:16with Ortiz and Maidana underway.
34:18Here's our unofficial ringside scorer,
34:20Harold Lederman.
34:21Okay, Bob, two rounds to one even
34:24in favor of vicious Victor Ortiz.
34:27Bob, the first round, I gotta tell you,
34:29you had to score a 10-10.
34:31I mean, there just wasn't the winner.
34:33Both guys scored knockdowns,
34:35but, you know, there was just no advantage
34:37to either guy.
34:38In round two, Victor Ortiz had a 10-7 round
34:41because he scored two knockdowns,
34:43and I thought Victor Ortiz still won the third round,
34:45even though Marcus Maidana's got that sneaky
34:47right hand that he gets in.
34:48But in round three, Marcus Maidana started to do this.
34:50He started to hold, and you can see Victor Ortiz
34:53stayed on top of him, got the best of him.
34:55Two rounds, one even in favor of Victor Ortiz.
34:58A rare even round from Harold.
35:01Hard to argue.
35:03Both Ben were down in that first round.
35:09Maidana, meanwhile,
35:11he is getting a little sloppier,
35:13remains a very dangerous opponent
35:15because not only can he punch,
35:18but his will has not been broken.
35:20He's still in there trying to win.
35:21He's not just riding out the string here.
35:24That's a good point.
35:25And also, there's been a lot of, to me,
35:28seemingly hard rabbit punches,
35:30semi-rabbit punches when those guys get close.
35:32One guy will be holding one guy's arm
35:34and hit him with powerful shots
35:35right on the back and the side of the head.
35:37You know, Maidana got dropped in the first round
35:40and twice in the second.
35:41He hadn't been down but once in his career.
35:44That was back in 2005 against Omar León.
35:47After the second knockdown in the second round,
35:50it seems like he wanted to quit.
35:53Oh, he hasn't fought that way.
35:55No, no, no.
35:56He's got up and fought just the opposite.
36:07One minute to go in the fourth.
36:10One minute to go in the fourth.
36:13You know, I was really wondering if Autiz
36:15would use his right jab a little bit more
36:17and utilize that and, you know,
36:18I think that would change the whole fight
36:20to some degree.
36:21And then he would be able to land
36:22a nice, clean, precision-type punch.
36:24The way it's going now,
36:25anyone can catch anyone
36:27the way these two guys are fighting.
36:29According to CompuBox,
36:30the two have landed a combined three jabs
36:32so far in the fight.
36:35And the possible .48 thrown.
36:52It's swelling under the left eye of Maidana.
36:58Stop!
37:00Stop.
37:01Stop.
37:02Stop!
37:03Stop.
37:04Stop!
37:05Stop!
37:06Stop.
37:11DEBRA, BINERON!
37:12Double right hand.
37:13Maidana blocked part of it.
37:14End of the fourth.
37:16We practiced it in the gym, Victor.
37:28Practice a lot.
37:29React, react.
37:31Come on, throw the right up top on the hook.
37:34Bring your hands up.
37:35Bring your hands up.
37:36Binge your waist.
37:37Understand?
37:38And get on the inside and throw the uppercut.
37:43Fifth round is coming up.
37:46Gino, come on, please do what I ask you.
37:48Please do what I ask you.
37:50You're walking in when you don't throw your hands.
37:52When you don't move your hands.
37:53No.
37:56Come on, where are we, Gino?
37:59Victor, react.
38:00Come on, think.
38:10Victor Ortiz and Marcos Paidana scheduled for 12.
38:13We begin round number five.
38:17Ortiz starts off with a jab.
38:21Ortiz has connected 54 of his power shots so far in the fight to Maidana's 44.
38:29Hey, have we seen maybe from Ortiz who's only 22?
38:33You know, a little inexperienced at times where you said, get that jab going a little bit.
38:38Don't play for just the big shots where he kind of drifts away from the game plan.
38:41Yeah, but I think, oh, well, he's been fighting there.
38:43You know, I just, I just think he needs to box a little bit more because he's still a much more accurate punch at this stage of the fight.
38:49And much more precision than, uh, than Mandara, Mandara, Mandana is.
38:55And I think he needs to box a little bit because he don't need to trade so much.
38:58One of the hallmarks of Maidana great fighters and champion foot-ship fighters is that when they get hit, their instinct is to throw two back.
39:08And Ortiz certainly has that component.
39:10And Ortiz has that element in his, in his fighting personality.
39:16Maybe not always the best idea against a puncher like Maidana.
39:20Oh, he's doubled up that right hook.
39:23Man, you, we saw Maidana cautioned again for that punching behind the head, that rabbi puncher.
39:28And those are not no light punches. Those are some very hard punches behind the head.
39:40Stop!
39:57Maidana chasing Ortiz, shot an uppercut inside.
40:00Ortiz couldn't fight. He actually wasn't moving like a boxer without boxing.
40:04They exchanged big shots and then hold on. Now they're trying to fight out of it.
40:12Ortiz is cut by the right eyebrow.
40:15The way these guys are, anybody can go down.
40:18These are, are nuclear shots these two are throwing.
40:25Now that's going to give Maidana more energy now after seeing the blood coming.
40:29Even though he was cut himself with a slack cut, now he's going to get more energy now.
40:33Now the question is going to be, is that cut from a punch or an accidental clash of heads?
40:37That's a good point, because here's what Aladdin is as well as they were punching.
40:41Because if it, if this fight eventually gets stopped because of the accidental clash of heads,
40:45they would go to the scorecards.
40:46If it gets stopped because that cut worsens and it was ruled from a punch,
40:50then it would be a win for Maidana if Ortiz couldn't continue later on in the fight because of that cut.
40:55Key point.
40:56Great.
40:56Good shot by Maidana.
41:05Right up the middle.
41:10Oh, big right hand by Maidana.
41:12Maidana cannot miss with the right hand.
41:14Victor, how are you feeling?
41:26Victor, how are you feeling?
41:28Victor, how are you feeling?
41:28We're being told it was from a punch.
41:36Referee Raul Caia Sr. said the cut is from a punch.
41:38I'm going to hit you again with that left.
41:39Victor, you want me to stop the fight?
41:41I'm going to stop it.
41:42I'm going to stop it because you're bringing down your guard.
41:45You're bringing down your guard.
41:47What's wrong, Victor?
41:49Come on, Victor, react.
41:51React, I'm going to stop it.
41:53Hey.
41:55Come on, give it all.
41:57Right here, you can see Maidana laying the left hand right on the eye,
42:03and that's what caused a cut.
42:04No doubt about it.
42:05It was definitely not a butt.
42:15Here we see Maidana come in here and throw a right hand once again right on the other.
42:20Could have cut his other eye, in fact.
42:22Tremendous shot.
42:23So it's been ruled a punch, and Maidana comes right out to start round number six.
42:34Ortiz has to find an answer for that right hand Maidana's throwing,
42:38or he's not going to win this fight.
42:39I mean...
42:40He pulls back.
42:44Ortiz is in trouble.
42:45Maidana's figured out he can't miss with the right hand,
42:48and he won't stop throwing it.
42:49Ortiz is in big trouble, and he goes down.
42:53One, two, three, four, five.
42:57You okay, son?
42:58Let's do it.
42:59Come here.
42:59Oh, it looks like Ortiz doesn't...
43:01I think he was waving his hands like he didn't want to continue.
43:04And I think the left ass is holding up, too.
43:06Let's do that.
43:07Let's stop it.
43:10Yep.
43:11They're going to stop it because of that cut.
43:16What a fight.
43:17We just saw a moment in a fighter's career that could define his career.
43:24Ortiz was dropped, cut, exhausted,
43:28faced with an opponent who refused to lose,
43:31and in a moment of weakness, gave up.
43:34It's not that he didn't make a gallant effort, Ortiz,
43:42but in boxing to be great,
43:45more is required of you than in any other sport.
43:48More is required than is really reasonable.
43:51And Ortiz just made a decision.
43:54He may live to regret.
43:55The jubilation in the Marcos-Majdana camp.
44:00They were confident coming in.
44:02They questioned the chin of Ortiz,
44:04and they exploited the eye, the chin,
44:08and the face of Victor Ortiz.
44:11Ortiz was still in the fight.
44:13His punches were still, when he was landing them,
44:15were still rocking Maidana.
44:18Ortiz was still dangerous.
44:21Let's take a look at the end of the fight.
44:25This is at round number six.
44:30Maidana's just jumping in with punches.
44:32Well, he took advantage of the situation.
44:34He just picked up what he left off the last round,
44:37which was very smart.
44:39And, you know, this is what happens in out sport.
44:41In other sports, you can say timeout,
44:43you're cut, or you're having a problem with a style.
44:45Some other player will go in.
44:46You can't do that in boxing.
44:48I mean, there is no timeout.
44:49Timeout means you lost a fight.
44:51See the heavy swelling under the left eye of Ortiz,
44:54which is the cut right eye.
44:57Sugar Shane Mosley offering words of encouragement
45:01for Victor Ortiz, who suffers the second loss of his career.
45:06Official time to stop it.
45:07Cheers out.
45:08Ring it out to Lupe Conferredas.
45:09Ladies and gentlemen, under the advice of ringside physicians,
45:17referee Raul Caiz Sr. stops the bow due to a severe lazeration
45:23over the right eye of Victor Ortiz caused by a legal blow.
45:28The official time, 46 seconds of round number six.
45:35Your winner, by way of technical knockout,
45:39and now the interim WBA super lightweight champion,
45:45Marcos Maidana has stopped Victor Ortiz at 46 seconds of round number six.
46:04The cut on the right eye of Ortiz opened up.
46:09You can see it right there, swelling under the left eye.
46:11The ringside physician said the cut was severe enough
46:13that the fight should be stopped.
46:15It was a clean punch that caused the cut.
46:19And although Ortiz came in as the headliner
46:22for the first time since kindergarten,
46:24it's Maidana who leaves with the headline victory.
46:28Let's take a look at the final CompuBox numbers
46:30for Ortiz and Maidana.
46:33You take a look at the total punches,
46:34and you see that Ortiz landed at a better percentage,
46:37although Maidana, as is his normal case, was busier in the fight.
46:43And it was all power shots,
46:45as neither man really paid much attention to the jab in this fight.
46:49It was power shots.
46:51Each guy went down once in round one.
46:54Maidana down twice in round two.
46:57But Ortiz goes down in round number six, and the cut ends it.
47:01Let's take a look at the punch zone.
47:03And, Manny, we take a look at the punch zone in this fight,
47:05and you see that not a lot of work to the body.
47:08These were all head shots.
47:09That's where these guys were concentrating on
47:11who could deliver the big punch the fastest and most effectively.
47:16And Maidana was able to make worth one of those 11
47:21to the right eye of Ortiz to open up the cut,
47:23and the 15 to the right side of the head,
47:25swelling under the left eye, and that was really the key.
47:29All right, let's end up to the ring in Max Kellerman.
47:32Congratulations, Marcos, on a spectacular knockout win.
47:38You were dropped in the first round.
47:42What were you thinking at that point?
47:43I wanted to go find him, and I got caught.
47:55He counter-punched me, and he has a heavy hand.
47:57When you went down, how badly hurt were you?
48:00No, it was okay.
48:02It was okay.
48:02It was okay.
48:02I was on the floor, and I went to the floor,
48:05and I got up, and I wanted to continue to fight.
48:10No, it was okay.
48:11My legs were a little shaky, but he caught me,
48:13and then I got up, and with desire to keep continuing.
48:16And you continue by promptly knocking him down.
48:19Did you think Victor would get up from that knockdown?
48:22Yes, I knew he was going to get up because it was a glancing throw.
48:33It wasn't a straight, solid shot.
48:35I knew he was going to get up.
48:36When he did get up, he went on in the next couple rounds
48:40to drop you a couple of times.
48:41How did you continue to get up from those knockdowns?
48:54I'm well-prepared, well-prepared with Contursi,
48:57well-trained, and we were ready for a tough bout.
49:00Did you think you had him when he eventually stopped fighting?
49:06Did you anticipate he was going to stop?
49:08I knew I could have him, and I had to be careful,
49:23but I knew he was making some mistakes,
49:24and I knew I could take him, and that's what happened at the end.
49:27All right.
49:28You and many feel you beat Ketelnik.
49:31You certainly just beat Victor Ortiz.
49:34What's next?
49:35We're going to wait, we're going to relax,
49:43and we're going to recuperate.
49:44The punches were quite hard,
49:45and we'll see what the management says.
49:47You are in position in the next 12 or 18 months
49:52or whatever these sanctioning body mandates
49:54to fight the winner of Ketelnik and Amir Khan.
50:00Who would you rather fight?
50:01It doesn't matter.
50:09Ketelnik I know already, and Khan isn't that big a deal.
50:12It's not that hard.
50:13Thanks, Marcos, and congratulations again.
50:17Victor.
50:18How are you doing, Max?
50:19Okay, you started out fast and dropped him.
50:25What were you thinking at that moment?
50:27Well, I kind of figured, you know, hey, it might be a short night,
50:30but hey, man, he's an experienced veteran,
50:33and nothing but all the respect to him.
50:36He promptly dropped you, and you looked badly hurt.
50:39Were you badly hurt?
50:40I'd be lying if I said no.
50:44You know, he does pack some power behind the punches,
50:47and hey, it just wasn't one of those nights, you know,
50:49and congratulations to him, man.
50:51But you got up even though you were badly hurt
50:55and continued to fight hard at an impressed Staples crowd
50:59where, considering you're a headliner,
51:01is an impressive draw for a young fighter.
51:04Were you spurred on by the crowd?
51:07I'm not going to lie, man.
51:08The crowd did get to me,
51:09and it's one of the first times ever it's happened to me, you know.
51:12I usually keep composed and take my time with it,
51:15but for some reason, something inside me just kept saying,
51:18I'm going to knock him out.
51:19I can knock him out.
51:20I can hurt him.
51:21And I fought really dumb, you know.
51:23It was a fault on my end.
51:25My coaches told me exactly how to fight him.
51:28We trained the way we were supposed to fight him.
51:31And, hey, it was my mistake, not my coaches,
51:33nobody else but myself.
51:35And, hey, nothing but the best to him, man.
51:37Congratulations.
51:38And you proceeded to drop him a couple more times.
51:42Did you think you had the fight in hand at that point?
51:44You know, it's hard to say
51:46because I was kind of in a little daze still.
51:48So, I mean, as far as me beating him,
51:51I was kind of like questioning,
51:53hey, I still need to take my time
51:55and maybe I can hurt him once more
51:56and then finish it.
51:58But I don't know why in my mind
52:00throughout all the training camp and everything,
52:02I kept thinking, hey, I have the power
52:05to knock this guy out.
52:06Let's take a look at the cut.
52:08This is round five.
52:09This is the shot that did it.
52:10Give us your thoughts.
52:15My thoughts on that were, wow.
52:18That was pretty crazy.
52:19Now, considering you did climb off the deck
52:23early in the fight when you were badly hurt,
52:26fighting the daze in front of all these people,
52:29go on to sustain a cut like that and keep fighting,
52:31what finally convinced you to stop fighting?
52:35You know, I was hurt.
52:36You know, I'm not going to go out on my back.
52:39I'm not going to lay down for nobody, you know.
52:40I'd rather just stay.
52:42You know, I'm going to stop while I'm ahead
52:45and that way I can speak well when I'm older, you know.
52:47So, here's the end of the fight, Victor.
52:50Give us your thoughts.
52:53Well, my thoughts on that, you know,
52:56like I said earlier, may the best man win
52:59and tonight, guess what?
53:00He was the best man.
53:02That's all I got to say.
53:03And, you know, as far as all my friends
53:05and people from Kansas, you know,
53:07I apologize for making everyone look bad
53:09and I don't know.
53:11We'll see what happens from here on out, man.
53:13I'm young, but I don't think I deserve to be,
53:15you know, getting beat up like this.
53:18So, I have a lot of thinking to do.
53:20Thanks for talking to us, Victor,
53:22and congratulations on a hard-fought fight.
53:24Bob.
53:25All right, Max.
53:26Well, it certainly was a thrilling bout
53:29as we take a look at round number one
53:30and two knockdowns in the round.
53:33First, Maidana goes down from a big shot from Ortiz,
53:36but Maidana quickly turns the table near the late stages.
53:39A good straight right hand dropped Ortiz in round number one.
53:42But Victor seemed to have things stabilized in round number two
53:45as he's able to get after Maidana.
53:48And he's able to drop him twice in the second round.
53:51Looked like he had things in control,
53:53including a knockdown late in round number two as well.
53:56So, at this point, Ortiz with that right hand
53:58has Maidana down three times through the first two rounds.
54:01But things change in round number five.
54:03We showed it to you before.
54:04We'll show it again.
54:05Left hand right there opens up the bad cut
54:07on the right eye of Ortiz.
54:10This happened in round number five.
54:12Blood starts trickling out.
54:14You can see it to the left of your screen
54:15as Ortiz knows now that at this point he's been cut.
54:19So, right hand.
54:21That caused the swelling under the left eye.
54:24Ortiz was starting to take big punishment.
54:26Then in the sixth and final round,
54:29Maidana could smell the blood literally and figuratively
54:31as he just pounced on Ortiz,
54:33picked up where he left off in round number five.
54:35Ortiz went down, brought it over to the ringside position,
54:38looked at the cut, said could not continue.
54:41The referee called the fight at the sixth round.
54:45All right, Emanuel Stewart, let's start first with the victor
54:48because too many times we, not the victor Ortiz,
54:50but the victor, Marcos Maidana.
54:52You have to get that straight tonight.
54:53Here's a guy that got dropped twice in the second round,
54:56three times in the first two rounds.
54:58Not a lot is known about him.
54:59First time in the United States.
55:00What did he show you tonight that impressed you?
55:03He's tough.
55:04He's like a lot of those fighters in Argentina, Juan Rodin,
55:08all of those guys, tough, tough, tough.
55:11He fought the fight, as I said.
55:12He said he's not going to get an opportunity like this maybe again,
55:15and he fought exactly like he said he would fight.
55:17I was very impressed.
55:19You know, six rounds, we had about six, seven knockdowns inside of six.
55:22I mean, knockdowns, not off balance.
55:24Power punches, cuts, swollen eyes,
55:27nothing but consistent explosive drama from the beginning to the end.
55:31It was a good fight.
55:32All right, and I just want to get your take
55:33because we talked about Victor Ortiz at the beginning of the night
55:35as maybe filling a void as an ex-superstar.
55:38Obviously, first-time headlining, he loses this fight.
55:41How do you rebuild a fighter after a loss like this?
55:45Well, the reason a lot of guys are losing,
55:46because they're fighting top fighters.
55:47They've not been baby like they used to be years back.
55:49I think all these guys do is take a good risk and come back
55:51and get back to boxing skills.
55:53He's trying to be too much of a puncher.
55:55He did take advantage of his great boxing skills
55:57and coordination that he should have used tonight.
55:59Manny, great working with you as always.
56:02Let's get some final thoughts from Max Kellerman,
56:04who's joined us from the ring after talking with both of the combatants tonight.
56:08Great win for Maidana and for Ortiz.
56:10Question marks about his chin coming in.
56:12It got tagged a few times and it hurt him down the stretch,
56:14but your overall thoughts of this evening?
56:16Well, I'll tell you who Maidana reminds me of from Argentina, Oscar Bonavina.
56:20And Oscar Bonavina had a fight, rugged heavyweight, with Joe Frazier
56:24when Joe Frazier was an undefeated prospect, dropped Joe Frazier twice.
56:28Frazier picked himself up off the canvas twice
56:31and went on to win a thrilling, hard-fought decision,
56:35keeping his unbeaten streak intact.
56:37It was shocking to hear a young potential superstar like Victor Ortiz
56:43tell me just now that he didn't think he should be taking that kind of punishment
56:47and that he didn't want to go out on his shield.
56:52We asked at the beginning of the night.
56:54It seemed to me that Victor Ortiz is too good to be true
56:58and maybe by the end of the night we'll find out whether or not that's true.
57:02And during the fight it seemed like, well, Ortiz be true.
57:06He got off the canvas and he fought with a cut.
57:09But I don't know if he's true enough for boxing fans,
57:13for him to be a superstar in a sport that requires of its greatest fighters
57:19that they're willing to go out on their shield.
57:22Very intriguing night here at Staples.
57:24And for Victor Ortiz, as he told us in our meetings yesterday,
57:27he had never been a headliner.
57:29In fact, the last time he headlined anything was in a school play
57:32when he was in grammar school.
57:33And he sang Old Christmas Tree as the headliner.
57:36But here tonight it was Marcos Maidana who sang Silent Night
57:40to all of the Ortiz supporters.
57:42Great night of boxing.
57:43Exciting fight between Marcos Maidana, Victorious, TKO,
57:48round number six against Victor Ortiz.
