Hello. Welcome to your weather for
00:02
the week ahead from the Met Office.
00:04
If you like blue skies and like
00:05
sunshine, you're going to enjoy
00:07
the next few days.
00:08
Start with a cautionary note,
00:09
though, just because it's not
00:11
spectacularly hot doesn't mean
00:12
the sun isn't strong.
00:14
UV levels will be high this week.
00:16
You will need the sunscreen on
00:18
because, yes, plenty of sunshine
00:19
on offer for the next few days.
00:21
And by day, it will be just
00:23
getting a little bit warmer as
00:24
well. The nights will still be on
00:26
the cool side.
00:27
When will it change?
00:28
How long is the sunshine going to
00:29
last? Well, it looks like until
00:32
probably around about Friday.
00:33
That's when we're most likely to
00:34
start to see some changes with
00:36
more cloud around.
00:37
And certainly it looks a bit
00:38
cooler as we go into the weekend.
00:41
But before we get there, it's this
00:43
large area of high pressure
00:45
controlling things.
00:46
Weather fronts out in the Atlantic
00:47
trying to make inroads,
00:49
but generally failing.
00:51
As the ice bars just squeeze
00:52
together a little bit, there will
00:53
be a bit of a brisk breeze at
00:55
times through the English Channel
00:57
and across Western Scotland,
00:59
particularly through the Western
01:00
Isles. But for most places, Tuesday
01:01
is a cracking day.
01:03
If you like blue sky, lots of
01:04
it on offer.
01:05
Some cloud will bubble up through
01:07
the day, but generally it is sunny
01:09
spells and actually feeling
01:10
a bit warmer by the afternoon.
01:12
Tuesday sees temperatures widely
01:14
up to the high teens.
01:15
One or two spots getting into the
01:17
lower 20s.
01:18
So, yes, a touch warmer on Tuesday.
01:20
The warmest day, probably most
01:22
widely, will be on Wednesday.
01:24
I fancy when we're more likely to
01:25
see temperatures in the highlands
01:27
of Scotland getting up to 23, maybe
01:28
24 Celsius.
01:29
Always a bit cooler around some
01:31
coasts. It really does depend
01:33
on the wind direction, the position
01:35
of the high. But again, it looks
01:36
like it'll be fairly breezy across
01:38
Devon, Cornwall, Western parts
01:40
of Northern Ireland and the Western
01:41
Isles of Scotland.
01:42
Elsewhere, the winds will be fairly
01:43
light, could get some sea breezes
01:45
developing and there will be some
01:47
cloud again bubbling up inland.
01:49
But for most, it is another
01:51
fine day on Wednesday with plenty
01:52
of sunshine.
01:54
We start to notice that high just
01:56
slipping to the north by the time we
01:57
get to Thursday and notice
01:59
again those isobars is getting
02:00
closer together, more of an easterly
02:02
breeze coming in by Thursday,
02:05
which will be most noticeable, I
02:06
suspect, across East Anglia and the
02:08
southeast. So it will be turning a
02:09
bit cooler here by then.
02:11
Again, some cloud will bubble up
02:13
through the day and again
02:15
temperatures across the northwest
02:17
probably peaking in the low 20s.
02:19
But elsewhere, just maybe a touch
02:21
cooler on Thursday with
02:22
that cooler feel, particularly
02:24
across East Anglia and the southeast.
02:25
Temperatures not as high here and
02:27
generally we're back to the
02:29
high teens.
02:30
But again, as I said, the highlands
02:31
could get into the low 20s.
02:33
Now, that area of high pressure is
02:35
slowly slipping further away by
02:37
Friday and low pressure is
02:39
just getting closer and closer.
02:40
Quite a few isobars across the
02:42
charts on Friday.
02:43
And then we're looking at weather
02:44
systems coming in from the east.
02:46
Now, when weather's coming in from
02:48
the east, there's always a bit more
02:49
uncertainty than usual.
02:50
It's not a typical direction,
02:52
but that change to more of an
02:54
easterly flow means
02:56
certainly this could be turning
02:57
cooler through Friday and
02:59
the weekend. Temperatures won't be
03:00
anything like as high and there
03:02
will be more cloud around with an
03:03
increasing chance of seeing some
03:05
showers. The details of where
03:07
we see the rain showers
03:09
still uncertain at this stage.
03:10
So make sure you stay up to date.
03:12
But certainly for the next few days,
03:14
some sunshine, some strong sunshine
03:16
on the cards.
