Two of the early favourites to succeed First Minster Mark Drakeford have made steps towards implementing their leadership race. Economy minister Vaughn Gething has officially said he will stand, with education minister Jeremy Miles having received enough backers to run. The next premier will be named in the spring.

Emergency crews have recovered a body from a building that was part of an industrial estate fire earlier on this week. No formal identification has been undertaken, but police are currently supporting the family of a person still unaccounted for in the fire. Police will now investigate the cause of the fire.

A report from a regulator has found that Singleton Hospital’s maternity unit is unsafe for mothers and babies. The report specifically highlighted a lack of proper staff, stretching back years, and insufficient measures to stop babies being abducted from the unit. It has been put into special monitoring by the welsh government.
