Martin Dempster on Lottie Woad winning Women's Scottish Open
Transcript
00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempsey, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from Dundonald
00:06Lynx at the conclusion of the ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open. And boy, did we see something
00:17special here this week. England's Lottie Wode, she had won us an amateur in the KPMG Irish
00:26Women's Open at the start of July. That was a six-shot victory the following week. She
00:33almost won the Evian Championship, one of the women's majors. She came here this week
00:39making her professional debut. And from start to finish, the 21-year-old showed that she
00:47is a superstar in the making. She started the day two shots ahead, was level on the back
00:57nine. Korean Se-Young Kim, she played really well today, made it difficult for Wode. But
01:05in truth, this was never an event that looked like it was going to get away from the English
01:11player. She won by three shots, finishing on 21 under par, picked up $300,000 as the first
01:20prize. And she's going to head to next week's AIG Women's Open at Royal Porth Call in South
01:28Wales as the player everyone is talking about. She won the Augusta National Women's Amateur
01:35in 2023. She turned professional as the world amateur number one. Goes about her business
01:44really, really well. She's got a fantastic wedge game. It was fitting that she finished
01:50with two wedges. She didn't need to go for the par 5, 18th and 2. She laid up with a wedge,
01:56hit the next wedge to two feet for a closing birdie. And really a fantastic performance.
02:03And this will be a week that could be the launchpad for an absolutely sensational career.
