Martin Dempster preview of Women's Scottish Open
Transcript
00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the golf correspondent of The Scotsman here, coming to you from Dundonald
00:08Lynx in Ayrshire. It's a busy time of the year. For me, fortunately you go to the Genesis
00:16Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club, and then of course the 153rd Open at Royal Port
00:22Rush, and now here in Ayrshire for an event that's co-sanctioned by an L.E.T. and L.P.G.A.
00:30And for the first time, Nellie Corder, the reigning world number one in the women's game, she's
00:39teeing up in this event. She felt a bit cold today. She was a wee bit under-cobbed, shall
00:45we say, in terms of layers. But there's no doubt that she's a huge attraction here this
00:51week. Us are the likes of Lottie Wood, the young English player, who won as an amateur
01:00on the Ladies European Tour in the Irish Women's Open recently, before also almost winning a
01:06major the following week in the Evian Championship. She's making her pro debut here. Us is Scott
01:13Hannah Darling, Scotland's top amateur, recent years, two-time Scottish girls' champion, three-time
01:21Curtis Cup player. She's had four years in the States in college, where she performed really
01:27well. She's making her debut in the paid ranks this week. She's out in the opening two rounds
01:33with Scottish number one, Gemma Dreibera, and Maja Stark, the US Women's Open champion this
01:42year. Five Scots in the field, Dreibera, Darling, Lorna McClymon, who's made a solid start to
01:50her professional career, Kylie Henry. Kylie Walker, of course, was her name before she
02:01got married to Scott Henry and Kelsey MacDonald. On the eve of the event, it was announced that
02:08Scottish Golf, in conjunction with the Sean Connery Foundation, they've got a new programme
02:14to support the transition of Scottish amateurs into the professional game, with Darling and
02:21McClymon being the first to benefit from that, and that has been described as a massive boost
02:28for the game here in Scotland. To keep up to date with everything in the golf world, including
02:33the ISPS Hander, Women's Scottish Open, log onto scotsman.com and buy the Scotsman.
