Martin Dempster on round 3 of The Open
Transcript
00:00Morning, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman golf correspondent here, coming to you from a Royal Portrush on the morning of the final round in the 153rd Open Championship so far.
00:17It's been the Scottish Scheffler Show, the world number one, takes a four-shot lead into the closing circuit, having shown once again why he is the game's current dominant force.
00:33The American has won three majors already, the Masters twice and the PGA Championship this year, and he's on course here to become the first current world number one after Tiger Woods to claim the Claret Jug.
00:53China's Hao Tong Li, he leads the chase, he hung in there yesterday in the third round, with Matt Fitzpatrick, the 2022 US Open champion, a shot further back.
01:08Delighting the home fans, Rory McIlroy made a charge, great round of golf from him, however, he still starts the last round six shots adrift, with Scotland's Robert McIntyre two shots further back.
01:23The open man was a bit frustrated towards the end of his round, bounced a club off the ground and then slammed another one into his bag at the 14th, but he's got a chance here to maybe finish in the top five, and having been runner-up in the US Open at Oakmont last month, that would certainly be another big performance by this Scott.
01:47However, it really is all about Scottish Heffler, what he does today, he's a great closer, he's shown that over the last three years, and there's no doubt the American is going to be hard to catch today.
