Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from
00:08
Abbey Dabbey Golf Club at the conclusion of the 2025 Team Cup. Two years ago at the same
00:16
venue this match, which was the Hero Cup at the time, was won by Continental Europe, but
00:24
on this occasion victory went to a Great Britain and Ireland team led by Justin Rose. And what
00:32
a convincing victory it was, a 17-8 triumph for Great Britain and Ireland that was never
00:40
really endowed after the opening two days play of foursomes and four balls. GB and I
00:48
led 11-4 heading into the last day singles, meaning they only needed two points from ten
00:56
singles matches to finish off the job, and that was quickly achieved as Laurie Cantor
01:03
beat the previously undefeated Romain Langasque, and then Tommy Fleetwood did likewise against
01:11
Matteo Pavon. Rose himself added another point for GB and I, as did Tyrell Hatton. All in all,
01:21
a very, very impressive performance from Rose's team. Paul Weirin, who won the Abbey Dabbey HSBC
01:30
Championship in November, he finished with three and a half points out of four, as did Hatton,
01:37
while Fleetwood was the star of the show with four wins out of four. This of course is a sort
01:43
of preparation event for the Ryder Cup. Two years ago, six players, including Scotland's
01:49
Bob McIntyre, went on to play in the Ryder Cup in Rome, where you're at one of course,
01:55
and it seems inevitable that a number of players will do likewise this week. Looks as though we're
02:06
getting a flyover at the moment. A giant plane's just about to go overhead.
02:21
I don't know if you saw that, but I don't know if that's an impromptu flyby or not, but Europe will
02:28
be aiming to be flying high in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in September, and Luke Donnell
02:36
will certainly be encouraged by some performances here this week. To keep up to date with everything
02:43
in the golf world, log on to Scotsman.com or buy the Scotsman.
