There's still a chance for tropical development in either the Atlantic or the Pacific in the final week of July. AccuWeather's Damien Lodes breaks down the details.
Transcript
00:00As we head into late parts of July, early parts of August, this is the time of year when you can see both the named storms and hurricanes really start to ramp up.
00:10Now the peak of hurricane season and tropical storm season is right around mid-September, so we have a long way to go as this peak continues to rise as we head throughout the next couple of months.
00:20So now is a good time to really start to pay attention to the tropics across both the Atlantic and across the Pacific.
00:26Now the good news is here across the Atlantic, as of right now, no organized tropical features on the map here for us to track at AccuWeather, but going forward, we're still going to be watching out for some possible tropical development potential.
00:37We still have that area of circulation, that low pressure center there across parts of the Gulf, so between today and tomorrow, we're still expecting a low tropical development potential.
00:46Overall, it doesn't look like the conditions are necessarily appropriate or even really active for any tropical development, but we'll still be watching out for that area.
00:55We're still going to be seeing widespread flooding across parts of the Gulf Coast going forward.
00:59In addition to that, we also have this area that we'll be watching as we head into the weekend, but once again, we have so much dry air from Saharan dust across this region that it's going to be very difficult for anything to get a foothold across the Atlantic to cause any issues.
01:13Now once again, because of that area that we're watching across the Gulf, we could see a low threat for some tropical rain and wind impacts here across parts of the Gulf Coast, so heads up for that.
01:23In addition, we're also watching out for possibly some tropical development as we head into the weekend south of Hawaii.
01:31That's going to be a moderate potential for development.
01:33We also have a low potential for development south of Mexico, but we're about to see some strong winds in Hawaii.
01:38Hawaii is going to be sandwiched between two opposite ends of pressure that's going to increase the winds across the Hawaiian islands as we head throughout the weekend.
01:47Stay right here with Accu Weather Ahead. We'll be right back.
