01:06I'd been in casting rooms with Eben for years in New York.
01:10But the day that we all arrived at Pinewood
01:11and were together for the first time,
01:16it was like a never-look-back experience, you know?
01:21And it wasn't...
01:22And I don't know if you were hiding anxiety about whether or not we were all going to...
01:27But for me, it was just instant.
01:31And it felt like we understood the same thing that, one, we were all in this together,
01:38and two, we all loved each other before we met, interestingly.
01:44Yes.
01:45Each other's work, each other's minds, each other's talents.
01:51It was all like...
01:52It just felt like I'm with my people.
01:56We took that first picture of us in the gym, didn't we?
01:58Exactly.
01:59Yes.
02:00And it was also summer, so it was exactly this time last year,
02:03so it was so hopeful, and...
02:04Yeah.
02:05I feel like we were so young, it's weird.
02:07It's quite literally a year ago, exactly.
02:08How are we going to do this?
02:09And now here we are.
02:10Yeah, surreal.
02:11Non tardano mai la domenica a cena.
02:13Mangiamo.
02:14E che ore sono?
02:15E ora di cena.
02:16Entriamo.
02:23Io sono l'araldo del suo inizio.
02:27L'araldo della vostra fine.
02:29Sono l'araldo di Galactus.
02:40Che cos'è?
02:42Portaci via da qui, Ben!
02:44Vengetemi!
02:46Matt Shackman showed us these visuals first, pictures.
02:49I remember him sending me a whole document of inspiration and sketches based on that inspiration.
02:55So not only were there people, like my favourites, like Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave,
03:00and all these people I was looking at, I was looking at particularly Jane Fonda because
03:03she was such an activist in that time, and so dynamic as well as being really feminine
03:07but cool, and so we looked at a lot of her clothes, and so a lot of Sue's clothes were taken
03:11from Vanessa and from her, like trousers and polo necks and belts, nothing originally when
03:16I'd gone into costume, but I'm coming back to the sets.
03:18But when I remember the first fitting we had, we tried on, there was a lot of 60s kind of dolly bird type shapes and frills and flowers and stuff.
03:26I was like, I just don't think that's Sue, it doesn't add up for me.
03:29She doesn't need to be frivolous, you know, she needs to just, if she's sitting with these world leaders and convincing them to change their policies, you know, I mean, who's doing that right now?
03:40You know what I mean? How is she going to be able to do it? And so I wanted to look at these women that I thought were really inspirational at that time, and those were two of them.
03:48When Matt showed us the sets, it was like, there was lots of space odyssey, and...
03:53A lot of Kubrick.
03:54Yeah, loads of Kubrick, and that was so amazing because it grounded it in this auteur cinema world, you know, it wasn't sci-fi-y, you know, action movie-ish, you know what I mean? It was very real.
04:08But those spaces were also large, you know, a lot of them were big round circles, and, like, our bedroom was, like, round, with this round bed, and this inset sofa that we never managed to use in the floor, and so we had to get used to those.
04:22So that was awesome, because we were, like, very immersed. It wasn't blue screen or fake or, you know, plasticky. It was real.
04:32Are we safe?
04:33I don't know.
04:38Il tempo stringe.
04:40Troveremo una soluzione.
04:42Sistemeremo le cose.
04:45Non vuoi solo distruggerlo?
04:47Mi piace.
04:51Noi quattro affronteremo il pericolo.
04:55Noi vi proteggeremo.
04:59La famiglia è appartenere a qualcosa che è più grande di te stesso.
05:03Lo affronteremo insieme come una famiglia.
05:10I think the very intentional part of the movie that is honoring the original comics that everyone were first introduced to is sort of the soul of our movie.
05:25Vanessa got me into the early comics, actually.
05:31Matt Shachman, of course, shared all of them with me, but she really kind of drew me into so much history that existed between Sue and Reed,
05:40and helped me really understand what a marriage story it is and a relationship story it is, extended family, a chosen family, and also partnership, love,
05:52and navigating their way through crisis together, and that kind of domestic crisis and worldwide universe crisis as well.
06:07And so I just love the juxtaposition of things in such a large scale kind of shrinking in size when it comes to the real conflict of staying together and committed to one another.
06:22Sei incinta?
06:32Sì, sono incinta.
06:33Sì, sì.
06:34Come hai fatto a capirla?
06:35Hai visto la faccia di tuo marito?
06:37Lo so, non sa tenere un segreto.
06:38Aspetta cosa, davvero?
06:40Sì.
06:41Ah, pittina.
06:43Cosa?
06:44Tu sarai la miglior mamma.
06:48Oh, mio Dio.
06:49E tu sarai il miglior papà?
06:51Scherzavo.
06:52Non sei tagliato per questo.
06:53Ma noi saremo i migliori sì di sempre.
06:55Also, I was just thinking about how someone said to me last night, it was my mum, actually.
07:04I saw them last night.
07:05They were adorable.
07:06Oh, my God.
07:06It's just so sweet.
07:08And anyway, the first thing she said was she was like, oh, my gosh.
07:12Pedro plays him so thoughtful.
07:14Like, he's so, he has so much inner life, and he's so thoughtful.
07:17And I was so proud of hearing that, because, yeah, she did.
07:22Oh, that's good.
07:23My mum, my dad.
07:24Isn't he going to cry?
07:25Her mother's observation is probably the most important to me.
07:29Okay, yeah.
07:30Do you know what it is?
07:31Because she wouldn't, she doesn't, she's so direct.
07:33Yeah.
07:33And I just thought, God, I was so, I was so moved to hear that, because the name, Mr. Fantastic, you know?
07:43Like, the traditional archetype of embodying that bravado and machismo, whatever.
07:49But you've got, he's played someone that's Mr. Fantastic with, yeah, a brilliant genius mind, which is really challenging with all the, not to play, but with all the, with how hard your lines work, because it's the most, he's the most intelligent man that's ever lived, okay?
08:06That's a really hard brain to embody and to, like, go into that psyche.
08:10But then to do that, as well as not, okay, I'm going to do a masculine, you know, bravado stuff that would have been really hard, I think, as a, to, to, I would have found that challenging, you know?
08:21To have soul and thoughtfulness, it's just, I mean, that's, like, revolutionary, in my opinion.
