06:33I'm busy anyway we'll show you every step of the way on this thing and thanks
06:38some excessive wear on this valve if you look from the side it's kind of got a curve to it
06:49it's a lot of wear call that tuliping on a valve same thing on that intake on the same
06:55cylinder so we'll have to get some new valves for this
07:03this is a kit to pull the injector cups out we'll tap some threads into the injector cup
07:25and then we have this tool that will thread into it and as I tighten it down it will pull the
07:31injector cup out of the head
07:44there we go, the injector cup is out
08:01so we'll bake it at about 700 degrees for an hour that helps to heat the entire block and that will help the whole quarter kind of settle
08:14and then after we do that we'll throw it into the shot beam and that relieves a lot of stress on the block
08:18in my opinion this is the best process and it's a better casting after this process than it was in factory
08:24oh yeah baby we got ourselves a new looking 7.3
08:50hugh daddy look how nice I mean boy that just does a great job doesn't it
09:02now I know this stuff looks
09:03all the scale and everything but if you look at it here wait till we shot blast it
09:09all that will come right off these castings will look just like the block look brand new
09:14that's really that's the first step and then we'll magna flux them and check for cracks
09:20then we'll decide where we're headed with the machine work if we've got a good four
09:24your motor has been kind of exciting uh to be honest with you we used to do some 7.3's and we
09:44don't do that many of them anymore we get a lot of requests like the old 12 valve Cummins man it's uh
09:49the world coming to an end people going to still own that 7.3
09:52yep that's well that yeah my wife's right there with you she's like I want something that doesn't
09:58have electronic as much electronics yeah it's simple tell me this story my son shared with me
10:04a picture I guess you were in a tornado where do you live where'd you get this tornado we're coming
10:08back from Indianapolis to our home in Columbus heavy downpour we pulled off the side of the road you
10:14know everybody on the interstate was pulling off and the tornado formed right over us and we were
10:21just sitting there on the side of the road flashers on everybody stopped and my wife looked up and says
10:27is that a traffic cone and it was spiraling up and right after that a tree fell on the truck
10:34wow so my son my wife and I were in the truck there was a limb right across the middle of the windshield
10:40it had landed right there and it landed on the topper on the back of the truck oh my gosh but
10:46the topper and the windshield basically saved saved us from having the truck total by the tree
10:53yep yeah yeah and you guys and you guys is this a two-door or four-door extended cab cab yeah it's the
11:01two and a half yeah okay gotcha yeah yeah wow what's going on with your engine right now so people can be
11:08looped in on what you're doing currently so at a stop sign pulling out onto a four-lane divided highway
11:15and I heard a heard a bang and I'm like okay this isn't good and it started to there was a lot of
11:22mechanical noise got out checked with my flashlight didn't see any holes in the block didn't see oil on
11:29that's good yeah yep it had a really bad miss though and so I was like okay something happened but I don't know it's still running I'm gonna get it home because I was only 20 minutes from home and when I got home I mean the whole truck was shaking at idle but I don't have time to to address it so I parked it for a month or so and then I pulled it into our shop got the passenger side valve cover pull off I was looking and
11:59and the rear rear cylinder on the passenger side both both push rods one was broke clear in half the other one was u-shaped and I'm like well there there it is but I don't don't know what caused it I pulled the injector thinking you know I might have blown a tip off and I could have flooded you know hydro locked it and that could have broke the one one push rod but the injector tip looked good the nozzle looked fine it was intact I said okay what's what's going on so have you had the pan off of that
12:29and looked at all your connecting rods and anything like that because if you hydro lock that motor it'll bend it you'll have a hard time getting a piston out because it'll kind of torque that rod a little bit and bind it up in the cylinder have you popped the pistons out of the motor because you guys yeah looking for a core I've got the pan off yeah just a visual inspection but I mean the rod looks straight but you know yeah yeah yeah yeah we'd rather not you take the core apart so because we we determine a lot of stuff huh broken spring
12:59maybe or and left the valve open a little too long and the piston whacked it is the valves all closed now you still got the heads on it though right yep okay got the heads I've looked your guess is pretty good or you know that that assumption hydro lock but you know it needs further tear down to kind of you know and sometimes you don't know then sometimes you just find broke broke parts and it's the chicken or the egg thing I'm an engineer by trade so I'm really interested to figure figure this out
13:29yeah it fascinates me too that's why I do it that's good but yeah most of the guys that I work with I showed them the push rod that was split in half you know broken half and I sent miles the photo of the push push tubes and most of those guys said that likely is from hydro lock where you know you get enough something in the in the cylinder and it's just you know your cam's trying to push push on the push tube and the valve's trying
13:59to open but you know your push tubes are weak link and that's likely what happened so it just snapped in half yep you should see it on the screen now but there's push tubes yeah and you got both of them that's the intake and exhaust on that cylinder that's correct yeah I think both in the same hole I think you I think your buddies over there at Cummins are telling you straight man yep I think you know with both of them like that I don't think it was just a fail point on
14:29one push rod that you know got weakened over time I think I think you were trying to push a solid
14:34yep yep what kind of engineer are you I'm a mechanical engineer oh cool for Cummins right
14:44that that's correct wow so you work at Cummins what do you do there for Cummins if you'd like to say if you don't just say I'd rather not say I don't want to get you in trouble at work
14:54I'll defer to that question just for now gotcha no problem all you guys need to know is I work at
14:59out of the Seymour engine plant and I I mean if you guys ever want to tour but by all means let let me
15:06know and I'll get you get you up there that's great I I respect that that's fine I just um well that's
15:11exciting that you know you we kind of got an inside guy that we're building the motor for I think that's
15:16pretty dang cool man you know it's a compliment we take it as a compliment somebody that's an engineer
15:20that's involved in a company like Cummins that looks at us and thinks okay I'll give you know
15:26we'll give you guys a shot my engine that's that's obviously important to you so uh we appreciate
15:32that we'll do a fantastic job for you well what about these speed air so back to that the piston
15:36you know what we're talking about and did you see the uproar in your behalf to get you pistons man
15:42I mean across all the platforms I think we've we really have surpassed 70,000 comments
15:49well that's impressive I you know I I want to do a little bit more research on them okay I don't think I could speak too
15:57much to them today I don't think I've got all the information yet go go check them out I could almost
16:01guarantee unless you're just an absolutely terrible mechanical engineer that you're going to want these things

16:56is it looks like a brand new casting and you're looking at at least a 25 year old motor here and
17:02that's because we've oven bake and shot blasted it bringing the casting back and stress relieving
17:07actually stress leads to the casting and now we're going to find the center of each one of those holes
17:14and then we'll know is every one of these holes centered and usually they're not because the
17:19the manufacturer where they're not close at all will correct that
17:49so

26:23main bearings for, like, you know, large production, like, cords and stuff like that.
26:28We can get them for the 6.0 and the 6.4 that, you know, manufacturers make it.
26:33But, yeah, it's, so it's a hard block to fix.
26:35You guys are seeing all the Cummins stuff, so this is from me personally, but I work for
26:41Cummins, so I just, I thought you guys would like.
