00:00Look at this man. I mean we got them lined up here. It's like donuts or something, dude
00:05What are we doing here? We're gonna use our new tool. I have eight cars. I have new tool
00:12We're gonna find the blow-by now you probably wonder what the heck does he mean by blow-by?
00:17I mean an engine that's getting pressure by the cylinder wall through the rings into the crankcase
00:23Basically losing power and we want to measure what that is, but let's also talk about we kind of
00:31Dialed this thing in because when you buy this
00:34Flow meter from a company called J tech they were happy they sent this case out
00:39We love it the flow has to go through this meter
00:43And so what we did is we bought all the oil caps for all the different applications, you know, and then we just put a
00:51A barbed fitting fitting in there put the hose on that put it on the meter
00:57Voila, so sometimes you got to do custom stuff. Oh, I see. So as you're blowing through there
01:07Give it all you got dude. Let me just come on. Let me see how much long while you keep it going
01:12You only got up to like four. Let me see. I'm a big blowhard dude. We all know that
01:21Oh, I got to five bro. I think I just kissed you tyson. Yeah, I think I kissed you. I don't think you're kissing me
01:26I know dude. We got boards out here got ram some high mileage low mileage and duramax and we're going to document this
01:34I mean, do we even have any do we first off do we got one?
01:38That's just a huff and puff blowing like a mother we do. Let's go check that one first. All right
01:41So our first one here is what you're making model is this it's a 2016 chevy 3500 and how many
01:50Miles does it have on it and this one has 135 135 k
01:58So we're going to go cold and hot
02:01All right, so we'll take off this cap. We're going to check it the old-fashioned way. This is how we've always check it
02:07Oh, man, okay
02:11That's a shit ton. Whoa, it's okay with tyson. Which one? That one right there should be it's the one I got
02:16Yeah, put our adapter cap on here. It's as easy as this tyson. Am I doing it right? Yeah, this is amazing, man
02:24I love to be able to measure things, you know
02:28Hook it up on that side for the flow that dude
02:31So here we're at zero zit man. This is as easy as it is
02:34This is it. Let's see what it says. Here we go
02:43All right, so it went up to five now. It's kind of rev it up a little bit
02:50Whoa, take it to it. Here's what I want to do cold. I want to go to 1500 rpm. Okay
02:57I want to do that same on every truck to go up to 1500 rpm
03:04Whoa, okay
03:13All right, so what was our readings? A shit ton
03:17So idle was uh like 4.0 and 1500 was 12.0. Okay, let's go to the next car
03:26Now one of the reasons i'm doing this is
03:29We do a lot of used car inspections and by the way
03:33If you want a good used car inspection
03:36I got one on my uh in my store that you can purchase and people love it
03:41But this is another piece of information that we can give customers
03:45Kind of say what the condition is of you know the blow by going by their rings
03:50That'll be super helpful. In fact, this is a little more helpful than measuring a brake pad in my mind
03:55Okay, now let's let's go ahead and document how much this one is say at 2018
04:00165
04:023500 okay, let's uh start up cold just let it idle for a minute
04:07Oh, see how much holy smoke this thing's hardly got anything
04:12I mean right off the bat the other the huff and puff was like at four. Let's take it up to uh 1500 and see what we got
04:20Notice that this is good to know didn't change really kept the same
04:25We're still at around point four okay
04:27Let it idle the other thing I noticed and this is good when he goes to idle we actually go to zero
04:33It's drawing a vacuum on that cold we're point two
04:38And 1500 we were point four
04:41So that that one that was huffing and puffing and blowing the cap off. I mean it's like exponentially a crap ton more
04:49So let's go ahead and let this one warm up and let's see
04:53Hot at 1500
04:55Uh, what's different about it? Well, this one warms up. You want to check another one?
05:00Yeah, let's go ahead and pop the cap off here now. We're going to check my tow truck
05:04We like to call her old betsy
05:08It's got a hundred and fifty three it's a two thousand eight okay, let her rip
05:13So cold we're uh, we're going to say point three and give me 1500
05:24All right, let's go ahead and let this one warm up is that all the chevys we got out here. Oh, there's one more
05:31Oh, this is the new one
05:38393,000 you put some miles on it. Whoa, baby
05:422015 chef. Okay, ready. Let's uh, we're ready to go. Let's do it. Okay, cold start
05:501.5 okay, take it up to 15
05:52Not that much difference
06:00Let's meet idle at 1500 1.8
06:05All right, let's let it warm up besides the one that was the huff and puff this has got the most
06:09So let's kind of see what the cap looks like on this one because this is how we usually check it. This is not bank, you know, doing that
06:17Rev it up a little bit for me tyson
06:19Yeah, okay, all right, we'll go ahead and let this one warm up. Let's check the other ones down
06:36This is a uh, 2020
06:40And he's got
06:42145
06:44Okay, here we go. You ready? Go ahead
06:46What do we what do we got an idle? 1.4 okay
06:54This will be a good one to see what it is after doing a crankcase filter because I don't know when he changed his last okay, let's go ahead and rev it up
07:02All right, let's just let it warm up
07:18Let's uh, let's have him get a crankcase breathing. Do we have one for it? No, we'd have to get one
07:232006
07:29All right, dude, let's see what we got
07:35Whoa, you can tell that ain't gonna be good 5.3 5.5 okay take it up to 1500
07:42So this one's got two hundred and thirty five thousand miles and at idle and twenty five fifteen hundred
07:52It's running about five and a half
07:55So it seems like the ones that pop are above you know when we get above 4.0
08:01That flutter test seems to be a pretty good indication. You got excessive
08:05Crankcase pressure. I love info. This is how you learn stuff
08:11Got to gather the data
08:13All right, what do we got here? Battle of the four thousand eight six four
08:19One sixty four K
08:21Let her rip
08:25Whoa, look at that
08:28We're four point
08:30Yeah, we're four point seven on this bad boy. Okay
08:33Okay, take it to 1500
08:438.8 double
08:46All right, let it idle
08:49I mean look at this
08:51Obviously, we got some blow by here. Let's see if it's popping a cap turn it off for just a second tyson
08:58Let me get the other cap here
09:00All right fired up
09:03All right
09:10Yeah, this thing's huffing and puffing
09:13Okay, let it go ahead. Let it let it let it warm up
09:17All right, let's check our another Ford
09:20Now this is not a 6.4. This is going to be a 6.7
09:27So it's a newer truck
09:29You want to keep it running?
09:37That one might not last
09:38Last but I love all this engine work that we're about to prove this is a 2022 2022 2022 okay with 92
09:47I'm gonna shut this down. This is gonna get a little hairy
09:51We've decided we're not going to let that warm itself up because I it don't sound good
09:55All right
09:57Let's do it
09:59Oh, see when you first started up hardly nothing
10:050.9 okay take it to 1500
10:080.9
10:160.4
10:170.4 okay
10:21All right, go ahead and let it warm up
10:23Let's go back to start at the front of the row here go back down to the chevies
10:28Okay
10:30All right, let's just check our coolant temp gauge says about 180
10:33160 180 so it's it's warm. We're good. Let's go ahead and rev it up a little bit
10:41Okay, that's good
10:43At idle, we're still now we come up a little bit so we're 0.4 at idle
10:49And then rev it up actually
10:52I'd say got just a little better it's pretty dang close about the same 0.3 yeah 0.3
10:59Tyson, you did a great job here, buddy
11:02All right, this one's warmed up to 28 so we're gonna say 0.3 still about the same okay rev it up
11:09about 1.3
11:11same
11:13The interesting doesn't seem so far doesn't seem to make a difference. Okay, I cut it
11:17Well, this is the one that was kind of high
11:21This was puffing the cap even warmed up it's still puffing
11:264.1 so it's come down about a point and a half
11:30But it's still yeah five
11:34It's come down just a tad okay, I would expect that
11:38You know, especially things that are wore out when it warms up it should be a little better go ahead shut it off
11:43And then we got is this the 2015 chevy? Yeah, okay
11:47Okay, we're 1.3 warmed up at idle
11:51Came down just a skosh we were 1.5
11:55Rev it up
11:591.9 okay
12:03We are at warmed up we are at 0.4
12:07We've come down a little bit it was a 0.9 cold
12:11Well, uh, okay rev it up
12:14I'm gonna say call that 0.42, okay
12:18Okay, this is the dodge
12:212020
12:23Okay
12:25So we are
12:272020 dodge
12:29And we've come down a little bit on this warm-up. We're about i'm going to say 1.0
12:33About the same 1.0
12:35About the same 1.0
12:37Okay, turn it off
12:39We're going to change the uh
12:41The crankcase breather on it and see it if that if those will come down and we'll show that test here in a minute
12:47There's little filter elements you could actually see them they're not all black
13:13Nice
13:18Installation
13:30So go ahead and let's start it up. It's the crankcase a breather filter element. We want to see if our readings come down
13:38They weren't excessive
13:39Our readings at idle cold are
13:44They came down about
13:46Not quite a half a point, but we were at 1.4 now. We're
13:51You know point eight point nine cold. Okay, take it up to fifteen hundred
13:58Fifteen hundred before we were one point two. Oh, yeah, we're quite a bit
14:04So now we're we were at one point two and now we're less than point five
14:09Okay, and I don't want up we are
14:14It's a tad lower it's point seven and now at fifteen hundred it's half
14:20So that's a good indication when you're getting up on a six seven dodge when you've got over
14:25uh
14:26A point and a half at idle
14:28A crankcase pressure
14:30You the first thing you ought to do is uh replace your crankcase breather. That's that's proof positive right there
14:36Because anytime that you're building up a crankcase pressure. You are losing power
14:41We tested eight vehicles four chevys ranging from uh
14:4520 2008 to 2016 what we did on the one dodge
14:51Because that customer wanted a crankcase breather. We measured it
14:56Cold at idle
14:58And at fifteen hundred rpm here's our idle and this is cold this side is hot
15:04We had one point four at idle cold one point two
15:08At fifteen hundred cold
15:10Then we got it hot the engine hot it dropped to 1.0 at idle and it stayed at 1.0 hot
15:17We changed the crankcase breather filter
15:21It basically same vehicle here the dodge with the crankcase filter it it almost halved the idle cold
15:30halved at fifteen hundred
15:33Not quite half hot
15:36But at fifteen hundred hot it it halved it so I would say it halves the amount of crankcase pressure
15:43Which will allow your engine to burn less oil and generate more power that's that's a fact if you're an engine builder
